  1. Bingo. Why create additional issues where they dont exist. The purpose of the stop was because the officer noticed some violation of traffic/motor vehicle law. Deal with that. Get it done. Move on. Would you start the conversation with "gee officer I only had one beer and that was hours ago"? Don't do it. I had a customer in the other day who also works in a gun shop and sees lots of LEOs. He said their attitude is they dont want to know if someone has a HCP or not.
  2. Good luck. Refinishing is going to run about $100 or more per gun. They aren't worth that much probably. And taking apart a top break is a PITA.
  3. To keep someone from getting it from her is relatively simple. When faced with a miscreant offering an obvious threat, she should hold the gun firmly, pointed in the miscreant's direction. The she should pull the trigger. She should keep doing this until the threat disappears or she is dead/mortally wounded or out of ammo. I am not aware of many cases where the gun was taken out of someone's hand. This is a canard often used to discourage people from carrying.
  4. It depends. If you want a fool proof weapon to defend your life then go with the Glock. If you want an heirloom collectible that will be worth more money than you paid for it in 80 years' time, then buy the 1911.
  5. You should immediately inform the officer of the number and type of weapons in the car. You should offer to allow him to search not only the car very thoroughly but your persons as well. After all, you want to be courteous to the nice man and have nothing to hide.
  6. I had one of the 2" through the shop. Nice little gun for the money. Sure looked like a Colt to me. I would bet the mechanics are different because Colt revolvers are expensive to make. Ergo, they dont make them anymore.
  7. I've only shot 76 rounds through it and it functioned perfectly. We'll see as I plan on taking it to Brush Creek tomorrow and shooting with it.
  8. Really. I think we need to send relief to those beleaguered boys in Berkeley. Maybe take up a collection for a box of Goo-Goo clusters.
  9. Gun is worthless. Go get an Ashley Big Dot front sight or you might as well lie down in the gutter and die.
  10. Only as a method of feeding a pistol.
  11. Welcome to the forum
  12. I know Marty Kooperman personally. A fine guy. I have a friend who owns a c-store (across from the diesel college)and frequently has trouble. I tell him always, the first one to call the police is the victim. That's the rule. So any incident, no matter how trivial like that, better result in a police report from you otherwise its gonna be "some crazy guy with a gun threatened me."
  13. No thanks. I'd rather live to an old age with my organs intact. My wife actually doesnt need to carry a gun. She's so mean she inserts the bullets manually.
  14. I have heard this from umpteen guys: my wife has a permit but I can't get her to carry one. I know because I'm one of those guys. The best I've been able to do is get my wife (a 7 yr permit holder btw) to carry a Smith Safety Hammerless Centennial in .38S&W in the bag she keeps the rest of us work stuff in. Zipped in a case. I guess if she has warning she could get it out and use it. But a .38S&W LRN isn't anybody's idea of a man-stopper. And she understands the importance of having one too, is the funny thing.
  15. Mike. its called balance. I've been carrying a revolver for 3years or so and now it's time to sample life's pleasures from the other side. You've been carrying a semi so now you need to come home to Jesus.
  16. Aha! That was a question I had. I dont care for the grips and want something dressier. So I wondered if standard 1911 grips would fit. Thanks.

    G19 vs Sig P226

    SIG, Heil!
  18. .....
  19. No, Mike. There is no cylinder. I've stepped across the plate (temporarily) to the rest of you "guys" where you like to shove it up your pistol's butt.
  20. It's true that the Glock is not an "heirloom" pistol. It's a serious tool. And has proven to be so over and over. As for holding its value, I don't think so. Check the depreciation on a Wilson Combat on Gunbroker. New ones appear to be in the 2500 range while no one will pay more than about 1500 for a used one. That's a lot of depreciation. In any case these are nonsense arguments. It's like arguing that a Smith Model 41 is a better pistol than a Smith Model 642 because it can shoot accurately at 50 yards.
  21. I thought so too when I saw it. It's funny: fondling a gun in the shop and even dry firing it really doesnt give you a real sense of how it will shoot. The finger grooves were fine. I didnt really notice them while shooting.
  22. Wood. With your hand around it the gun will look fine. It largely depends on which one feels better in your hand. I like minimal grips because I have smaller hands.
  23. Gee that's heavy with meaning, Dave. Maybe you'd care to elaborate a little. You think people should submit to voluntary searches of their person and vehicle? When you stopped people and asked to search, did you tell them that if they refused you would haul them to jail? This is even though you didnt have probable cause to search and therefore no grounds to detain, much less arrest?
  24. The method of feeding the pistol I mean. As happens, slowly the idea of a super-compact .45 carry gun took over my mind, looking to be something that darn well might save my life. OK, so it wont necessarily save my life any better than my current carry, but it sounded good. So I looked around. It came down to the Glock 36 and the Para-Ordnance PDA. Big difference in price. I've shot the Glock and it was pretty good. One or two quibbles but nothing terrible. But something told me to go with the Para and I did. Got in today. So I took it out to shoot. Now, for a carry gun I look for certain things. First is reliability. The gun better work well out of the box. No excuse in my book for one that won't. The Para got mixed magazines of S&B ("Skiller and Beller" according to one well-known HCP trainer in town) and Remington Golden Sabre. Function was flawless. That is the mark of a quality pistol: if it won't feed certain kinds of ammo then it isn't high quality, it's merely over-priced. Second is "shootability." That's hard to define. I can tell you the Glock 23 (compact .40) doesn't have it. It was a hard gun to shoot for me, with follow up shots very difficult. The Glock 36 was OK but had a lot of muzzle flip, as did the Smith 457 (another gun I considered). I expected the Para to have as much muzzle flip as the others, figuring it came with the territory of a 3" barrel. I was pleasantly wrong. Recoil and flip were mild for a 30 oz short-barreled gun. Follow ups were easy to do. The trigger was interesting. This is an LDA (light double action). I owned a big double stack Para many years ago. Either they've gotten better or I have. All those years with a revolver maybe. Trigger feels like a 2-stage with a take up and break. Very easy to shoot once I got used to it. I also shot the gun one handed point shooting style. I had it down at my side and rapidly brought it up and fired without sighting, from about 8-10 feet away. Hits on the IDPA target were very satisfactory: the gun points well. I also shot rapidly, trying to induce malfunction. No such luck--ran like a champ. In all I am VERY pleased with this gun. I wont sell my revolvers, or stop carrying them, but the Para is a worthy addition to my carry gun stable. (And psst: I have another one available. MSRP on the gun is over $1100)
  25. I tend to think LEOs will presume the worst because that is what they deal with every day. It is bound to rub off. I can sure understand that, but it isnt an excuse.
