If Sen McCain is senile Obama, what's your excuse?
The Rabbi replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
You have to give people in that position a break. He probably wakes up in a different city every day and rushes through the day. Every word is scrutinized. Think how many stupid things you've said when tired, sick, etc. Of course that doesn't make his policies any less hideous and the prospect of an Obama presidency any less horrifying. -
First off Hillary isn't going to get elected and she wont become VP. She went from certain to soiled in a matter of 18 months. I think there is a good likelihood Obama will get elected. McCain sounds like he's nuts. And I'll probably vote for him just because. But Obama (or anyone else) will have way more on their plate than gun rights. That is going to be way down the list, long after Iraq, Afghanistan, and healthcare. And keep in mind that a lot of Dems in Congress now are a lot more pro gun than the Republicans they replaced. They are not going home to their constituents and telling them they voted anti gun. It wont come up. Obama will be a one term president ala Jimmy Carter.

Passengers with HCP and car gets pulled over
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
That was a little extreme and in-your-face. But he made the basic point: you are not necessarily under any obligation to answer questions like that. And in the end he was not detained and waved through without having to answer. As for the other points made, no one is calling anyone an *******. But I personally am disappointed that people who claim to value freedom as much as they do seem so willing to give it up for nothing. -
Tin foil hat a little too tight?
The Rabbi replied to dralarms's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
No, that is not the most fair assumption. The most fair assumption when dealing with conspiracy theorists is that they have taken 1 and 1 and gotten 666. There is some grain of fact out there, in a completely different context and totally divorced from how it is being spun, and that becomes the basis for this idiocy. For example, this quote: Actually it was the first time in 25 years and does happen for very good reasons. But let's not let actual facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory. And when you have to quote Hugh Downs and CNN for your facts you are in deep deep trouble. -

Wow. And to think, some of these people actually have responsible jobs somewhere. -

You would be surprised to learn that not only have I not had any incidents like you describe, I actually have had very good experiences with all the LEs (OK almost all) I've met both as suspect and as gun seller. But I didnt realize I was required to "contribute" in order to voice an opinion here. Perhaps you could detail what my contributions as a private citizen ought to be? There is no tin foil hat here. But it is undeniable that a) an officer making a traffic stop is tuned to find other violations as well; some officers abuse their authority; c) if we don't fight for civil rights we will lose them. There has been a steady erosion of personal liberty over the last 30 years and some people on this board seem intent on accelerating that trend. Protections against search and seizure were hard fought for and hard won and some folks posting want to toss them. Imagine you never carried a gun or cared anything about them. Now imagine being told you would have to give up gun rights. No biggie, right? Same here. And all rights are interconnected. You cannot give up one and expect to retain all the others. -
Thanks for the plug, John. The Glock 23 is among the least shootable handguns I've tried. I find recoil excessive and follow up shots hard to make. The .45acp generally is a softer-recoiling cartridge, imo.

Disarmed when stopped by the police?
The Rabbi replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Same. Been carrying for over 8 years and never even been asked for my HCP. Much less volunteered that I had one. -
Hookay. I think you better hook up with Musicman before too long....

It might shed some light if you explained a little more fully how you came to get shoved up against the cruiser.... -
Passengers with HCP and car gets pulled over
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Wow. That's all I can say. "Gee Mr Authority, please come and take my rights away, I'm not really using them." -
I was told my someone with authority (I think it was John R Wall) that the .45acp was designed to be a 200gr bullet. But the standard forever has been 230gr. I tell people: in .25acp it doesnt matter what you use, it probably wont be that effective. In .45acp it doesnt matter what you use, it will probably be effective. In 9mm and .38spc it matters quite a bit.

Passengers with HCP and car gets pulled over
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
You have to explain how informing the officer I am armed represents "courtesy" or reflects on his own safety. I doubt you will be able to answer the question. As for courtesy, why dont you also explain to the officer where you were, where you are going, and whom you have/will meet? Any information not specifically required is an intrusion. Just as much as if I were walking in a mall and I went up to every LEO I met and told them I had an HCP and was armed. Do you think that's reasonable? I dont. And your comparison of an officer's duties and the motorist's role is laughable. And no, I dont give LE discounts. LEs are generally represented by powerful unions and get wages and benefits, paid for out of my tax dollars, far in excess of what they would get with comparable experience and job skills in the business world. And most importantly, they signed up for the job. -

It's not about respect. It's not about making their job easier (and how that's accomplished by handing over my HCP is beyond me). It's about rights. About the Constitutional right against unlawful searches and seizures. The LEO has absolutely no right to know whether I am carrying a weapon or not. I am no threat to him and until or unless he can articulate why I am then it is none of his damn business what I have or dont have. -

Why would you have all the windows down? That way Officer Friendly will claim he smells dope and search your car. -

Go ahead and laugh. He actually knows what he's talking about, which is more than I can say for a lot folks through my shop. But this is what I hear on a daily basis, know what I'm saying? -
How to load an AK-47 75 round drum....now what em saying?i
The Rabbi replied to Urse's topic in Show and Tell
And where do you think he bought that drum? I have had similar customers look at boxes of ammo and then wipe the round off before putting it back in the box. Personally I would think the heat from the ignition would burn off any fingerprint. But I assume these guys have had more experience than I have. -

Passengers with HCP and car gets pulled over
The Rabbi replied to a topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
So you think if you get pulled over for speeding and show the cop you're an HCP holder he's just gonna wish you a nice day and maybe have some light banter about guns? Uh,no. I don't think so. You'll be getting a ticket regardless of your status as a HCP holder. If the guy is a real hard-ass paranoid type he will pull you out of the car, take your gun, unload it (maybe safely but I wouldnt count on the gun handling skills of LEOs) and might hand it back to you. Most likely nothing like that will happen. But if you keep your mouth shut and gun concealed then it almost certainly will not. -
The gophers around your place are cowering in their holes. Oh yeah you dont have gophers....

My understanding is that around here there is a phenomenon called the "comin' to Jesus talk" that goes like this: Preacher: Son, I've heard about your wicked ways, running around with women and drinking. You've had your fun but now it's time to come home to Jesus and give those ways up. So too, Mike. You've had your fun with the semi autos, neglecting the hard work of sight acquisition and trigger pull. You've blown through boxes of ammo seeing how fast you can pull the trigger. But now it's time to come home to Jesus and get right with the Lord by carrying a revolver.
