I have to echo a lot of what has been said here. the .224 Valkyrie runs off of the 6.8 SPC Bolt and Mags. Just building the upper alone would cost more than the Bolt Action Thompson Center Compass in 30.06 that I have been looking at. That will definitely deliver out to 1,000 yards and won't cost nearly as much as building a Valkyrie upper or building an AR-10. Thanks for the input gentlemen, I was just curious as to what y'all thought.

Tell me about it. I have to stop myself on a daily basis from starting another build.
-
Found it! LOL. That is a great price! The S&W M&P15 I had was $575. I ended up selling it to pay bills. Then built Aero Precisions later. Spent about $200 - $300 more than on the S&W, but I think it was worth it. Especially since I waited for sales and used Veteran's Discounts (came in $600 under MSRP).

Any thoughts on 224 Valkyrie? 90 grains screaming out to 1k+ yards seems very impressive for a .22 caliber.
-
I have been debating between 224 Valkyrie, 25-45 Sharps, or just staying with the 5.56 NATO in 62 grain or higher... right now sticking with 5.56 is the most cost effective.

Thank you all. :-)

And meaner. I was in Nome in April of 2010 and them suckers are HUNGRY!

Tell me about it. I about killed myself this morning getting the jungle, my lawn, mowed, coverd the plants and insulated the water faucets... again! But at least there aren't any mosquitos! Lol.

Grave Marking for Revolutionary War Veteran Ancestor
Ehunt replied to Cruel Hand Luke's topic in General Chat
There is another website called 23andme but they're more expensive than ancestry. -
Dave, yes I have seen that; thank you. The reason I am leaning to the Thompson over the Ruger, or the Mossberg Patriot, is that the Thompson comes threaded. So adding a supressor later on would be easier than other models.

Thank you Gentlemen.

Yea, I did miss that. I had a S&W M&P 15 Sport II before I built the Aeros I have now. Well, I can recommend the Sharps BCGs. They will reduce the issues we've seen in Mil-Spec BCGs.

Very cool! -
I am thinking of buying a Thompson Center Compass in 30.06. Everything I see has excellent reviews, and the price is unbelievable. Has any one had experience with the Compass or other Thompson rifles?
-
I have to agree about Aero Precision. I have two Aero builds after using Anderson and others. They were good, no doubts and they will function. However Aero's parts run smooth and very well!
-
What xsubsailor said! lol. Yes, shooting either .223 Rem or 5.56 NATO is precisely what the .223 Wylde was designed for. The only place that I can foresee an issue with the steel casing ammo is perhaps with the bolt extractor. The steel may wear down the extractor quicker that brass cased ammo.

Well, I hope I am not too late. But I highly recommend the BCGs offered by Sharps Rifle Company for any cartridge based on the .223/5.56 parent case. They make theirs superior to Mil-Spec, and the Bolt head design eliminated many of the common AR feeding, extracting, and failure to go to battery issues. https://graniteridgeoutfitters.com/searchquick-submit.sc?keywords=src http://srcarms.com/ Additionally. Head-spacing really isn't so much of an issue with the AR-15 platform. That is why the Mil-Spec clearances and adhearances are so crucial for today's manufacturers; especially with the higher end parts (e.g. Aero Precision, Faxon, Spikes, etc.).

Thank you Sir!

With what I have run, Aeros are very good for the price you'll pay. Excellent parts and quality machining! The Barrel and BCG are the real expenditures. I went with a 18" Faxon .223 Wylde Gunner barrel on my Wife's rifle, and a 18" Ballistic Advantage (Aero) for mine. I run Sharps Rifle Co. BCGs, I think they are among the best, if not the best on the market. I know that was rather long winded, but yes, very good stuff! :-)

Their AR-15 mags are excellent for .223 and 5.56, however I do not recommend them for 300 Blackout. They kept jamming on me. Magpul makes some specifically for 300 Blackout if that is your thing.
-
Thanks, and thanks ;-)
-
Hmm... I foresee a 300 Blackout? lol.
-
Give Aero Precision a look. you may be impressed.

Thank you. :-)
