Mine has been flawless even with the low recoil LE buck shot. I have not tried anything but buck and slugs in it so maybe with smaller shot it is not as reliable.

Well, a conditional proceed means it is up to the dealer to sell you the pistol or not. The FFLs I know will not due to possible liability(ie they don't want to take the chance). I would guess you need to get a letter from Virginia Beach stating that information and see if that is enough. If not you will probably need to get an attorney to get it removed from your record. From what I see, is that they don't want to be bothered with the transfer. If an individual sends the firearm into the FFL and it isn't what the buyer wanted, they are now caught in the middle. In their opinion if it is another FFL, the return is much easier since they can send it back to the FFL. With the individual, they can't just send the firearm back to that individual. Don't take this as meaning I agree with it, but I do somewhat understand it.

I do not know what they are making currently. My wife is a certified teacher and when she did teach for 2 years in Knoxville, the starting salary for elementary/middle was somewhere in the low 20s. This was 10 yrs ago though. I do not know what it is currently.

As to the notion of teacher and pay. It really depends on where you live. Here in TN the teachers are under paid. However, in states like Maryland teachers are paid well and still complain constantly about the pay. As a good example, my father did taxes on the side and he did the taxes for our next door neighbor who was a middle school science teacher. Her pay in the late 80's was 61K a year (she did have a masters). Compare that to what teachers make here in TN. So it really depends on where you are as to how nice a teachers lifestyle can be. As a comparison at that time my father was a credit manager for a 100 million dollar a year credit load concrete company and only made 45K a year.

I would say take someone with you that knows the platform. What would be recommended would depend on what you want to do with it and what is in your budget. One thing to check is the staking on the gas keys. As an example, I had a 90's vintage Bushmaster and the staking was as good as on any rifle I have seen. Having looked at some fairly recent ones, that seems to not get done as well anymore. Of course that isn't something that can't be fixed. Are you going to go for target shooting (match) then get a 20" + barrel. If it is for plinking then any AR from the usual suspects would be fine and you can pick one up for around $700 or less. If you plan on taking a carbine class with it, then you would want to get one from a top tier company (Colt, LMT, Noveske, LWRC, etc).

The PF9's trigger does get better with rounds. It is around a 6-7 lb trigger which isn't horrible for a DAO considering the J farmes are 10-12 lbs. I have never had an issue with my PF9. The only thing I have heard on the Taurus slim is if you get a good one you have a good one. Otherwise you will be sending it back for work.

There is only one way to know how much a certain round penetrates. You must shoot it into a medium and see for a fact.

+1 on the Taurus. The only caveat to that is the mag which were horrible. Thought I had a bad gun but once I switched to Wilson mags the gun ran flawless for over 500 rounds. I only traded it since I picked up a Springfield TRP.

Since this was about the best 22 semi, wouldn't that go to the Hammerli target pistols? Of course, I wouldn't want to spend 1K - 3K on a .22 pistol but that is just me.

It would not be a bad idea to open it up and hit the heatsinks with some canned air. Had a similar problem with a toshiba, it didn't seem hot but that was the cause. Unfortunately on mine the fan had died and I could not get a replacement. I was shocked at how crammed up with dust the heat sinks were inside.

A little more on the First Need Water purifier. When I purchased mine a few years ago it was the only filter rated as a purifier by the EPA. The way you test that the element is still working is to put food coloring into the water and pump it out. The water on the other side is crystal clear. The only drawback I have found is the slowness of the pump.
