  1. I use range pick up brass for 9mm (and sort it to remove Norma & Geco). .38/.357 I've saved over the years. But when I started loading .32 S&W Long and .32 H&R Mag I ordered Starline brass. The Starline is excellent quality and reasonably priced. .32 S&W and .32 H&R Mag loaded ammo was just too expensive for me to shoot and save the brass, so that point helped in my decision making. As a matter of fact I have some Starline .32 H&R mag brass scheduled to arrive today. .38 Super? Yeah, I'd go with Starline.
  2. I just watched the vids posted by @Chucktshoes. Must have posted while I was slowly typing LOL I have much respect for TR. I knew and trained with James when he was still with Andy and OPS, He, Gomez, Andy, and I would hang together at Rangemaster's 1st few Tac Conferences and have all trained together at various times. I haven't had the pleasure of meeting Tim and have no doubt he's an excellent instructor. I personally like as tight of a pattern in buckshot as I can get. I'm accountable for every pellet leaving the gun, so that's just my preference. And I totally agree that every shotgun made has it's peculiarities and idiosyncrasies and will pattern different loads uniquely. It's up to us to determine what works best for our perceived needs in our particular guns. Sorry if this is a drift.
  3. It depends. I have and still shoot a Mossberg 590 I had Vang Comp(ed) back in 1996. I had attend Gunsite's 260 Shotgun Class the year before which is where I was introduced to their work. It made a remarkable difference in buckshot patterning of the ammo available at the time. I was running Federal H-132 00Buck (Low Recoil Tactical Buckshot) and it changed the pattern from a 15 yard "B" zone to a 25 yard "B" zone. It had no negative effects on running slugs. I am more than happy I had the work done. This was before the development and release of Federal Flite Control wadding buckshot The Flite Control is a serious gamechanger. The 8 pellet seems to group better than the 9 pellet as, to the best of my knowledge, the stacking of 9 vs 8 pellets often leads to 1 pellet venturing off from the rest of the pack...a flyer. The below pic is from my 590 Shockwave at 20 yards. Cylinder bore. LE 133 8 pellet. Shockwave with Holosun 507 I'll take my 590 Vang Comped next trip and do some side by side comparison pics. I'm gimped up on a walker or using a cane right now (tendon torn) so it may be a week or so.
  4. Thanks for starting this thread @gregintenn. I 100% agree on notes. I still have the small notebook I started in 1987 and have expanded to a 3 ring binder. I use a combination of handwritten and typed (Word Doc). IMHO everyone serious about handloading needs a chronograph. Sure, you can get by using published data, but all guns have their idiosyncrasies, especially revolvers related to their B/C gap IME. My LCR's tend to run 15-30 fps faster than my Smith's on most loads. You don't have to spend a fortune on a chrono. While I have a PACT I generally use my CE ProChrono and have for several years now. It's just simple and easy. I too use Lizard bedding. It's inexpensive and I can pick it up locally...like less than 2 miles from my home. Lights! Bright Lights! I have fluorescent lights in the ceiling of my reloading room and I have one mounted under the bottom shelf on my reloading bench directly over my presses. I use an Inline Fabrication LED light on my old Dillon 550. It replaced a flashlight I had taped onto it for a number of years. Awesome lighting for this press. I'm in the process of building another "sister" bench for my main reloading bench and will be installing an under the shelf fluorescent light onto it as well. The close in lighting really shines when working on the internals of a revolver. Speaking of such. Having a handy camera, like a phone, really helps when doing a disassembly of a revolver and for taking photos of chrono data at the range to later transfer into my notebook. @Grayfox54 Excellent tip! I've used an inertial "magic bullet eraser" for years and have never even thought of using a shell holder... Darn. Thank you! Lot's of great tips folks! Thank you for sharing.
  5. I've had problems with the small flash hole in Norma 9mm and Geco 9mm when depriming. This surfaced, for me, several months...maybe a year ago and a search of the interwebs showed me I wasn't alone in this. But I'm drifting off the topic of this thread. Apologies to the OP.
  6. Good point. Below is a pic of Norma 9mm brass (right side) and Blazer 9mm brass (left side). I've had decapping pins stuck a couple of times in the Norma 9mm (very small flash hole IME) so I now sort it out and toss it my my brass bucket.
  7. I just checked "Completed Auctions" on Gunbroker. There are 3-4 that recently sold for right at $400.00. @Moped is right, trade-in value would be markedly less around here. @papa61 beat me to it
  8. Certainly will. Yeah, I'm interested in both as well. Several features I like and at a reasonable price.
  9. That's intriguing @Moped. I hadn't even considered Charter Arms. I've been following recent .32 developments and shooting my LCR with .32 S&W longs and .32 H&R mags (handloads) and can really appreciate where it looks like the industry/community is heading with this. I'd like the opportunity to try one of these (rental?) so I'll keep an eye open. Looking forward to folks experiences and thoughts on these. Thanks!
  10. The .32 S&W longs in my steel framed LCR are remarkably soft recoiling @papa61. I loaded up some .32 H&R mags with Bullseye for this afternoon's shooting. It's another very controllable and nice shooting loaded. Both have less subjective recoil than .38 spl and I shoot my .38 LCR at least once a week. I've never fired a .327 mag in any gun, so I can't speak to that. I wouldn't hesitate carrying the .32 LCR for SD. 6 easily controllable and accurate rounds in such as small package (both the LCR and Taurus .327) has something going for it. I have RDS on my G17 & G19 as well as my Taurus TX22 Compact. I like them. I've not shot a RDS equipped revolver but I used to hunt whitetail with a scoped 629, so the general concept is there. It would be a belt/holstered gun for sure. Looking forward to the opportunity to try one out.
  11. I'm pretty intrigued by the. 327 Toro. I have a .327 LCR and as I handload I can actually afford to shoot it. Not. 327 Mags, but 32 S&W long and 32 H&R Mags. Having RDS capabilities is a plus with my aging eyes. https://www.taurususa.com/revolvers/small-frame-revolvers/taurus-327/taurus-327-defender-toro
  12. God Bless the USMC! from an Old Corpsman.
  13. Thank you. I do handload and that's a pretty decent price considering today's situation. If folks sign up for notifications at Norma Shooting there's the occasional deal on primers. Currently the SA (Servicios y Aventuras) small pistol primers are $49.99/1000 no HazMat nor shipping but they do charge state tax. I've used around 3 k of them over the past 6 months in 9mm, .38, .357, and .32 S&W long/ H&R Mag and they work great. Have more on the way but the weather is holding up FedEx delivery. Thanks again for for the listings.
  14. Thanks @Links2k! I already hated that commercial...now I've got the earworm... Doom on you!
  15. LOL. I found a few LPKs while straightening gear yesterday. Haven't touched an AR in a couple of years. Nice to have the spares.
  16. I can't help with a broken screwhead. That would suk! I'm starting a Mossberg Shockwave box/kit as of 30 minutes ago. Have you seen how friggin' tiny the detent ball bearing is on a Mossberg safety? Good Grief! Luckily the steel safety came with an extra. <sigh>
  17. I've got a whole plastic divided tray full of Glock parts and another of S&W revolver parts & springs. I could probably replace all the Glock internals twice over and I've definitely used out of both stashes over the years. Great advice/suggestion Sir!
  18. Me too. Glad you found the ammo you wanted @pop pop. SG ammo is a great source, but sometimes I find better prices at Bone Frog Gun Club or Targetsports. It really depends on what a person needs or wants I guess. Like Greg, I'm fortunate to be able to reload, otherwise my .32's and .38's would gather dust.
  19. I've read that they can be a "hit or miss" kind of thing online. But I bought one from a guy at work several ago. He was one of those buy frequently-hardly ever shoot gun guys. I paid very little for it. I ran around 800 rounds of a combination handloads and factory range ammo through it. Then 100 rounds Federal 147 gr HST. It had a couple of FTF within the 1st 200 rounds but never bobbled again after that. For such a light weight gun and with such a long deliberate trigger pull I found it a remarkable little gun. It's not something I would replace my Glocks or Smiths with, but I found my sample of one very shootable. And quite accurate out to the 15 yards in the indoor range where I was shooting at the time (ORSA). I had a total of 4 mags for it and they all functioned fine. My son has it as a 2nd "house gun" at this point. I hope you get yours worked out to your satisfaction.
  20. Happy New Year! An Irish Blessing: "May your mornings bring joy and your evenings bring peace. May your troubles grow few as your Irish blessings increase. May the saddest day of your future be no worse than the happiest day of your past. May your hands be forever clasped in friendship and your hearts joined forever in love. Your lives are very special, and God has touched you in many ways. May his blessings rest upon you and fill all your coming days.”
  21. I've been through way too many "Panic Buying" "Hair on fire" media hyped periods to get caught up in this type of thing. That said I joined Target Sports earlier this year after talking with my regular shooting buddy about it. We shoot together at least twice a week and both of us have been at it for decades. We both handload the majority of rounds we shoot sans .22LR of course. As reloading components have suffered not only inflationary increases but also competition demands in acquiring (we are already have seen 100% increase in the price of most powders and even more so in primers). We too advantage of the Target Sports membership fee of $95.00/year (only I joined, he reciprocate next year) which has shipping included (they do charge tax). We've purchased enough 9mm and .22LR to way more than offset the initial $95.00 fee. And that 9mm usually runs at $0.24/round delivered (that's with tax included), but Black Friday saw it at $0.22/rd delivered. Now that's not the $0.20/rd of 2019...but it's not 2019 and that's the reality of it. Also with this membership I have ordered as little as 2 boxes of different make 12g slugs (sighting in the RDS on my Shockwave) or 2 different boxes of 9mm (New Republic and Geco) just to check them out, and they ship UPS with just the listed 8% discount price. My Point? I want to save my primers and powder I purchased before COVID for loading my .38/.357 and .32 S&W Long or .32 H&R mag. I realize 9mm is currently the most ubiquitous handgun caliber (and the one I shoot the most) but I have been shooting a lot of .38 spl and .32 S&W long the past couple of years. I could not afford to do that purchasing factory ammo. FWIW My carry ammo is Factory, usually Federal HST purchased in bulk a few years back. I wouldn't hesitate to carry my handloads if that's all I had. I'm unaware of the ammo used being a significant issue in the outcome of a lawful self defense shooting...but that's not my wheelhouse. We'll continue to see price creep in everything in our lives. Panic Buying hurts us all in the "gun culture". Unfortunately it's a cycle that just keeps repeating itself. No harm in prudent targeted purchasing though imho. Just my $0.2 worth...
  22. No sir, but I'm tagging in with interest. I helped my grandfather cut cane (sugar cane) at his farm in the early 1960's in South MS. He took it to a mill for processing but us kids weren't allowed in on any of that. We sure ate a lot of sugar cane though.
  23. I would pick up more of this Monarch brand if it were available for this price. Not for FOMO or anything, but it leaves my primer stash alone so I can put it towards .32's & .38's With current component pricing my 9mm handloads would cost me 19.7 cents per round...so 20 cents a round is a good "buy" price to me for decent 9mm. I appreciate your listing it initially. Thank you.
  24. @NoBanStan I shot some of this today out to 25 yards. Good quality ammo. Local pickup for me. But, Locally (Knoxville) Academy lists as OOS for in store pickup. I just checked the website and it looks to be OOS for shipping as well as of 1 minute ago. Unfortunate.
  25. RIP Sir. Love Glocks or hate them I don't think anyone can deny the incredible impact that design had/has on the firearms industry. Everybody (for the most part) jumped on the "striker fired, plastic gun" bandwagon and that concept is ubiquitous today. In my experience Glocks work, they just work and keep working. I just sent my 1997 G19-3 into ATEi for a milling for my 509t (again). The G19-3 has above 50K rounds through it and this is my second replacement slide...I've broken 2 over the years. So, I'm biased, But it doesn't change the fact it was an innovative concept that was well marketed. Much Respect.
