Carrying a brick? Yea, when I carried back in early 80's, there were no fancy holsters for 1911's like today. Still have it somewhere, but a leather pancake holster worked. But with everything else I carried; it still sucked getting in and out of the car. For the OP. - here is an idea for you? Kimber Ultra Covert II.... 1911 in a smaller package. Love mine even though I don't carry it anymore. Great lil pistol. (They don't have that color anymore but....)

I did 2 ss myself. a Uberti cattleman stainless and a SS Kimber Raptor 1911 pro. Took me 36 hrs. to do the 1911... I polished it to shiny finish then gave the flats a brushed finish. it was fun. need patience and no machines. Just various grades of emery paper as fine as 2000 grit. Chrome company I used. Think they changed names... Accurate Plating & Weaponry | Gunsmith In Newville, Alabama

If your gun is nickel, don't mess with it. I did mine because it was scratched to hell from years of use. If it's stainless, as mentioned below, get your mothers out and polish.... I would prefer nickel because it was like a mirror....

Bought the 1911 for $250 brand new in 1977 I believe The 1976 Lawman just last week for $845... Just got to keep eyes peeled.... my new mission.

So many moons ago, (early '80's), I had to make a decision what I liked and disliked. Dept required we use something that could fire .38 spl. So, with not much to offer, it was either going to be S&W or Colt... Went to the shop and I needed to be convinced of which. Then, it was a matter of preference. The S&W rattled a tad when you shook it, the Colt, solid as a rock. So, my love of Colts started up. Within a short period of time, I bought a 4" Nickel Python, 6" Royal Blue Python, a Nickel 1911 MKV Series 70. Short after, ...the Colt Lawman Mark III .357 My carry was the 4" Python and backup was the Lawman. My dept was hell bent on not using revolvers anymore, so I was able to carry the 1911.... (would be nice if they paid something), but truth be told, revolvers were not that expensive, and I already had what I needed. Over the years, I started getting more interest in semi-autos and went with HKs... I sold my 6" to a guy in AZ, my 4" to a kid just out of the academy and my Lawman to the guy that owned my marina... Knowing what we know today for the going price, I kick myself in the arse for getting rid of them. Who would have known. Kept the 1911 only for remembrance. Eventually had it chromed, (nobody does nickel anymore ,(and if so, would be very expensive) ... and fitted with tritium sights my old eyes could see... So, my quest. I just got my hands on an excellent 1976 vintage Lawman Mark III. Must have been in someone's safe for decades because looks like it was never shot. Still had cosmoline on some parts. I got a deal that I could not pass up. I will slowly rebuild my Pony/Pythons of yester-year. My only Colts and hopefully not the last, (excuse the tint and oily prints. They are both shiny mirror like. Hard to get shot without reflection..) :

You need a dl... Not a carry permit to buy a shotgun...

I've had my ham license since 1975... Recently got into GMRS but here is the deal imho. Since the invent of cell phones, radio chatter is low even on CB radio. I have GMRS for when we go to the mountain cabins. You may hear more chatter if you are near campsites, off road trails, hiking trails, etc. It's not meant to be used for idle chit chat like on CB radio... Any which way you use them; they are perfect for bug out bags and if you worm through the mountains like we love to do. Here are a couple radio/forum sites to learn from: eHam.net Callsign Database - QRZ.com ARRL - Home myGMRS.com: GMRS Repeater Directory and Community And of course there is a free ap for that !;) Updated for free on a regular basis... Hadn't been there in over 52 years. Was humbling to say the least. Would love to go back someday. Watching their videos yanks my heart every time.

Anyone dealt with Silencer Central?
BHunted replied to AuEagle's topic in National Firearms Act (NFA) Regulated
Maybe I'm lucky. Since it's gone e-forms, much better. The slowdown is because they have to send it to an ffl in your state. Depending on where you are and who the local ffl is, could make the difference. The USPS bs going on right now doesn't help. Our county pd are pretty quick. The only other slowdown is if the certified letter to the county arrives on weekends. It gets put off till the following Monday. No admin around on weekends and the sheriffs won't sign for it so... Hey, whatever works. It's probably a good thing they are not faster. Wife gets mad as is... "WHAT? Another one?" LMAO... Crossing fingers atf goes by by..... -

Use who you see fit to use, but that statement is BS. Now that everything is electronic with the atf, everything is quick. I'm on my 4th and it was less than a month to receive it but that was all storm, usps bs or it would have been faster.... I was approved in less than a week.
