My older son turns 18 in a few months, and I think I'll buy him his first handgun for a present. I'm open to suggestions, so long as none of you insist on turning this into a Glock-a-thon. He'll not be getting one of those.

Precisely! In fact, that would make a great defense, assuming some of the agitators failed to move in time.

The last time a group of young black men lined up across the road in front of me, I was a teenager. Several of us were going to a motorcycle race somewhere up in Kentucky in my friend's mother's black Cadillac. We made a wrong turn, and drove down a seedy looking street, when they stepped out in front of us. He looked at me nervously, and asked "What do I do?" I told him if he wanted to get home tonight, he'd better mash the throttle. It worked well then. What would you have done?

These are "the good ole days" for cheap, accurate bolt action rifles.

I consider a group of people blocking a road for no apparent reason to be a threat to my safety and well being. I also consider a vehicle, when I'm driving one, to be my best form of self protection, and will act accordingly.

....or lawyers, guns, and money. I like to hand the phone to a small child if one is available when I get a call like this. It's comical.

Is a boat considered a vehicle in this instance?
-
I'm not saying you're wrong. I just tried to answer your question from the perspective of someone completely detached from law enforcement.
-
Sure. I'm old enough to remember a Mayberry type police force in my small hometown, complete with officers who wore a tie instead of bdu's. You could actually have a conversation with these gentlemen, and knew them by name. People respected them because they earned it. This is a far cry from what one encounters on the street today. I see an us versus them mentality among today's officers that wasn't always present.

Dave, It appears I'm no longer the lone but telling you these things. Turns out there might be something to it, huh?

If I could find any hate in this thread, I'd likely be looking at your posts.
-
I see no hate here, and no one is condoning murder. Sooner or later, however, if police treat people wrongly enough, people will get tired of it and do something about it. That's what you see happening now. Is the media helping to gin this up? YES Is your president helping to gin this up? YES Do police have some responsibility in ginning this up? ABSOLUTELY Is it going to get worse? I'd think so How do we fix it? I don't have a clue

Same here. If you get your jollies tying to scare teenage kids, I don't care what happens to ya.

You know full well I was talking about the police community in general, and do not know a single thing about the individuals shot. Because a man wears a badge doesn't mean he should be a bully. This is something I see far too often. Others see it as well. I'm sorry you don't like it, but that's the way it is no matter how much you try to defend it. My kid was stopped a while back for not wearing a seatbelt. That's a bullchit law, but it IS a law, and he broke it. No one was upset about the ticket, but the troopers smart mouth and bully attitude left an impression with my son he'll not forget. There's no reason for all that. Of course, he'll not resort to violence over the issue, but the trooper could have refrained from being an ass and made a positive impression on a young man, yet he chose not to.

It is indeed a sad time for this once great country.

Yeah....that'll work out well. I hate that police officers are getting shot, but many of them have sort of made this bed they find themselves in now. You often get about as much respect out of folks as you give. A lot of people are currently pulling their heads out of their backsides and deciding they're tired of being pushed around by an ever growing government. I'm afraid this is going to get a lot worse before it lets up.

I watched that movie a few nights ago. I really enjoyed it.

230gr Bullseye (powder) load for IDPA
gregintenn replied to maroonandwhite's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
My understanding is that 5 grains or Bullseye and a 230 grain fmj is either the equivalent to, or the military load. It's fairly stout. I've never varied from it because it works so well. -
I've 5 cans of green beans on the stove now!

Not what I paid.

I'm telling you. They're awesome binos.

S.O.B.s in the media are trying to start a race war. For ratings? Why?

http://www.midwayusa.com/product/473524/redfield-rebel-binocular-roof-prism?cm_mmc=pe_weekly-_-clearance-_-20160715-_-20160715 A few years ago, I paid about $150 for these for a gift to my son. I thought I stole them at that price! These are less than $58, with free shipping. In my opinion, you'd have to spend more than $500 to get a better binocular. I ordered another just to keep in my work truck.

A different attack in France, but here's some perspective on what we're dealing with here. http://heatst.com/uk/exclusive-france-suppressed-news-of-gruesome-torture-at-bataclan-massacre/ You ain't gonna talk these folks into peace. They have to be removed from society.
