National Constitutional Carry
Thearmededucator replied to Omega's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I agree, but preventing bad law is more important than passing good ones. The Gov that can give us everything we want can take from us everything we have. -
National Constitutional Carry
Thearmededucator replied to Omega's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Im just as concerned of federal overreach as I am for the Second Amendment. I think a more Constitutionally viable bill is National Reciprocity, which is firmly backed by the “full faith and credit” clause of Article IV, section 1. This bill in the long run can be a massive threat to our 2A protections. If it’s within Congress’s purview to enact this bill, it would also be within Congress’s power to forbid it later when the Leftists have the numbers. -
You cannot software or legislate this problem away. Once the attack begins, What you need is someone: 1) Armed 2) Present and 3) Willing to interdict if you want to save lives.

If anyone is interested, Ed Monk, a leading expert on the Active Shooter Threat and how to mitigate it, is giving a series of lectures next week at the Humboldt Medical Center. I have attended one of these before and completed his Active Shooter Instructor course, and can attest that he is truly top notch and wonderful resource. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Why not more open carry?
Thearmededucator replied to billyblazes's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Relevant Video from TFA saw this on FB and immediately thought of this thread -
I can be much help on location, but I’ve got food for thought. I’ve gone nearly full circle, from buying the cheapest steel crap I could find, to reloading in bulk even cheaper, to buying bulk, new, brass only. If you are buying individual boxes, you aren’t saving much money even with a good deal. Therefore I recommend shooting a box of the defensive rounds in your carry gun and finding a brand that shoots to the same zero. Now that brand is your practice ammo, and your holds will be predictable if you ever need it. Just my two cents.

You are right of course. Context is everything in this case. however I believe both John and Chances were speaking generally, and not in totality -
SB2923 Firearm Safety education in schools
Thearmededucator replied to timcar86's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sorry about the Zombie thread, but I submitted my proposal for the district’s firearms education curriculum for next year. Thought I’d share if anyone was interested or has the ear of a decision maker. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1axDVoBD4jDyEKCJ9KsQ5SVfSdkj3wbPH81y_xFeHtfQ/edit -
Inventory Today/Staging home defense guns.
Thearmededucator replied to Defender's topic in General Chat
Staging is intimately personal, and has a lot of factors. As a general rule I would want to stage one in the bedroom, one each in the two rooms you spend the most time in. Another consideration I suggest is to make sure all authorized family members can run each weapon type effectively. I don’t know your personal situation, but my wife is familiar with ARs and Pistols. Therefore, an AK pattern gun wouldn’t be in the rotation. -
870s and Mossberg 500 or 590s are the old standby, and a fantastic option. In particular I like the Magpul SGA stock options. The new semi-auto hotness is the Beretta 1300 or A300, but they are 2-3 times more expensive. Some caveats to add: 1) Shotguns are a thinking man’s gun if you want to run it well. Especially a dual use gun like you want. Get training on it and practice ammo management. 2) Put thought into your defensive round. I prefer Federal Flite Control, if you can find it. Contrary to conventional wisdom, you don’t want a wide spread. Pattern your gun at various distances and record your results.
-
While your physical ID doesn’t have to be updated, in order to purchase a gun you have to update the state of the change and have a change of address verification code, which can be obtained via the state website.

You are right, it can; but that is one that the user can work mitigate, where as the the deficiencies of the laser you are stuck with. The leading edge of the optic housing can make an imprint, but it can generally be more pronounced with Appendix Carry.
-
In the proper circumstances (that you generally will NOT be able to choose, such as shooting at medium distance from an awkward position) the laser can be defensively beneficial. The big problem with them is, as a general rule, the people most interested in them are the last who should have them; New shooters. If you already have the required skill to shoot well and aren’t reliant upon them, I don’t see the harm, but I don’t see much benefit either. As for use in low light, they are inferior to weapon mounted light that allows positive identification of your target. Lasers are useful in a training context, however; especially with an instructor or at least training partner. Red Dots on the other hand have most of the same benefits without the drawbacks. Better battery life, better visibility, better at longer distances, better in varied lighting conditions.

A Real Second Amendment At Last?
Thearmededucator replied to gun sane's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
The good part is all Gov Agencies have recently been curtailed with the Loper Decision overturning Chevron Deference, which will take some time but greatly reduce the ability for Agencies to interpret the law to their own will. Id rather have the Hughes Amendment (which bans Machine Guns post 1986) removed. I'll pay a $200 tax for a M240... -
How do you plan to use it? The 870 checks all the boxes for a HD shotgun, but needs more practice to run it to its capability. The 1301 is by all accounts the bees knees, but at $1700, you could get an 870, a 2 day shotgun class, and a good chunk of the ammo for the class, which would better serve most people. On its own, the 1301 is probably the more capable weapon, the 870 is probably the best ROI.

What Ammo do you have in your HD AR mags?
Thearmededucator replied to 22lr's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Honestly, I use M193 because 1) in the home defense scenario the ballistic difference observed in a 25 foot shot will be minimal, and 2) in any scenario my holds (both under and over) will be consistent with my practice -
AR pistol BUIS Sights and Other Accessories
Thearmededucator replied to Moped's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
By definition, it would still be an angled grip, but it would just be up to how the ATF feels about it that day -
AR pistol BUIS Sights and Other Accessories
Thearmededucator replied to Moped's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
If you aren’t using an optic, I’d suggest a fixed front sight at least. If you need it, you don’t want to forget to deploy the sights -
AR pistol BUIS Sights and Other Accessories
Thearmededucator replied to Moped's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
No kidding. This one at least has been fairly constant. honestly, you’d probably be ok, but all it takes is a pissed off Fed or a crappy DA. -
AR pistol BUIS Sights and Other Accessories
Thearmededucator replied to Moped's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Just FYI, an AR Pistol needs an angled foregrip, otherwise it’s technically an AOW and requires a ($5) tax stamp and accompanying paperwork -
Ankle holster reccomendations
Thearmededucator replied to Spots's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I’ve never had good luck with an ankle holster and cowboy boots. It’s either way too high on the leg to be practical or too bulk at the actual ankle to cover the holster. For deep concealment I’ve moved to the PHLster Enigma with a sports belt. I was even able to wear it effectively without a shirt at a water park this summer. -
Budget Scope Battle

I have a SWFA that I am more than happy with, and it cost like $300 at the time. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but ive found it to be durable and accurate -
Where do I start to learn ham?
Thearmededucator replied to res308's topic in Survival and Preparedness
I’m a tech of the check the prepper box variety, but this is what I’ve found: Ham Radio Crash Course is a great resource and has like minded people. It has a YouTube channel and a discord server. Chirp takes some getting used to, but the ability to clone the radios is great. I have some UV5Rs and a Yeasu 7250 as a mobile unit. Repeaterbook and QZR are good references for finding local repeaters and emergency frequencies to program into the radio. As a rule Better antennas have a better bang per buck than better radios One of the biggest fallacies preparedness aligned people have with radio is we focus on getting the gear, but lack the people to talk to -
One thing to keep in mind, those Highway Patrol revolvers were generally N frames with barrels considerably longer than CCW guns, so its not an apples to apples comparison. I fully agree there is a line between defensive and fighting pistols.

Trump enacted more gun control measures on 4 years than Obama did in 8. BUT… He gave us the court that gave us Bruen. I’ll call it a tie. The thing that the Left doesn’t realize when they vilify Trump and the NRA is that they are the moderates…
