  1. I'd suggest one that you don't mind having confiscated...   Noted in the text regarding the "relaxation" of the rules is that it's up to individual TSA "agents" and they still have full power to confiscate anything they think is scary.
  2. Just to add some clarity onto why we need 30-round magazines - these things are going to be damn hard to kill when the turn them on us ;)   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pp89tTDxXuI&feature=player_embedded       Imagine just dumping these over a battlefield - a drone equipped take on leaflet bombing.  Picture these equipped with pneumatically fired nerve darts or similar.  They're all talking to each other, and are coming for you...   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lCUGPixEnk
  3. Agreed.  And, just to be clear I would have the same problem with this if Mitt Romney had won the election.    When you start with the proposition, as I do, that as a general rule our federal government is incapable of creating value - then they must continue to draw their power from somewhere.  At some point, they will either result to taking it wholesale from a free people, or taking it in parts by criminalizing behaviors of groups they don't like.   You can't put Pandora back in the box.  We're going to see the use of drones over civilian airspace - even though I think there are some interesting Posse Comitatus questions there.  The problem I have with it is that it simply knocks down one more barrier to having armed drones overhead.   It's not like you really need a drone to keep up with most people, though .  If the government decided they wanted a person gone, most phones these days would get a JDAM within a few meters...
  4. Seeing a lot of the tech as it's developed, I think we're at the very edge of a new era.   When it comes to drones, there are a lot of hard questions that need to be asked.  I applaud Paul, Cruz and Wyden for asking a question publically.  I hope they keep the pressure on the administration.   You can't stop innovation (though the government has done a huge amount since September 11, 2001 to discourage it).  As an engineer, I live to innovate.  New technology, new processes and new value are exciting to me.  But, technology always has to be balanced with morality.  And, morality evolves a lot more slowly than technology.    Our law enforcement agencies are already chomping a the bit to employ drones.  Law enforcement here in Middle Tennessee can't wait to turn them loose.  And it should be noted that drones won't be used solely by the government.  Private companies are looking to use them as well.  Note that the article I referenced above talks about air guardsmen using their new skills in the private space.   The questions surrounding drone use are hard questions.  We need to wrestle with them.  It's important for us as humanity.    It's not like this is a particularly new debate, though.  Call Captain Kirk a prophet before his time.  From A Taste of Armageddon:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yKmUd0zHW4w
  5. The 118th Airlift Wing's based out of Nashville has had its mission has changed to include MQ-9 Reapers.  They're replacing the C-130s.   http://www.airforcetimes.com/news/2012/08/ap-tennessee-air-national-guards-118th-airlift-wing-mission-includes-drones-uavs-083012/
  6. The turduckens from Hebert's in Houston are pretty good. Surely this lady is joking.   It's cool to watch the butchers at Hebert's work.  They debone a chicken and put it in a deboned duck, that then goes into - you guessed it - a deboned turkey.  Put a little aligator dressing in there and it all cooks up wonderfully.  The oil from the duck keeps the turkey moist.   Those butchers debone those birds faster than anyone I've ever seen.  I could watch them work all afternoon...   http://www.hebertsmeats.com/turduckens.asp
  7. Use a good drill to get clean holes and backfill later with a good epoxy based wood filler.  That and a little bit of matching stain from a touchup pen should have you in good shape when you move.
  8. Im not sure if they'll have dance parties in hell, but if they do, I'm pretty sure that this will be on the mix tape:   http://soundcloud.com/pomdeterrific/pomdeter-call-me-a-hole   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yArRnznVJwY
  9. The 642 has a clear coat you'd have to strip, but I don't see any reason it couldn't be anodized.
  10. For the citizens of Colorado sake, I hope sanity prevails in the end, and Magpul isn't forced into a move.
  11. Nothing like flipping off the man as you leave. I bet the simple act of putting that press release together felt great! Way to go, Magpul!
  12. I'd definitely be in for some 2x3s.
  13. I'd call those OD as well. That sad, this crazy market is primed for grey market Chinese knockoffs.
  14.   It really doesn't have anything to do with screwing with sites for the heck of it anymore - at least very rarely.   It has all to do with organized criminal groups serving unsuspecting visitors to a site keystroke loggers and the like that can later be used to commit identity theft/steal from you and/or make your computer their unwitting zombie to be used in spam, DDOS attacks and other stuff like that.   The days of the Kevin Mitnick "let's see if I can get in for the heck of it" types are unfortunately long gone.
  15. I don't think they accept public visitors these days.
  16. Man, that's a pain to deal with!  Makes you want to find the people responsible and take them out to the woodshed doesn't it?
  17. Offending pic removed.
  18. I own and shoot both. Between those two, the SWFA is the better scope.
  19. I ought to add that the last couple of generations of 4-stroke Honda 2HP outboards (current gen. being 2.3HP) are great gunwhale mounted motors that sip fuel and are relatively quiet.  So long as you understand the risk to the engine related to capsizing, I wouldn't hesitate to go that route.  It's a little bit more expensive than the equivalent Mercury, but it is quieter and a better motor overall.   Offer stands open if you want to try my MinnKota trolling motor to help in making up your mind.  Feel free to come get it anytime.
  20. BTW, the prop really what limits the speed on a trolling motor.  That and the fact that you're dealing with a non-planing craft and so speed is a function of waterline length.  It takes very little to push a canoe up onto the plane, but due to the hull shape of a canoe, you've got very little contact with the water when you get there.  The lack of any hard chines on most canoes are going to translate this lack of contact into a very unstable ride - and one in which dumping your canoe is going to result in a bunch a damage to that outboard.
  21. Craig, you're welcome to try my trolling motor out if you want some low investment help in making your decision.   I think you'll find that a trolling motor is more than sufficient in a canoe.  The way the props are rigged, 5 knots is pretty much the top end, but you can go all day on a charge with a good marine battery.   Unless you've got a wide, square sterned canoe like a Grand Laker (in which case give me a call), an outboard is simply too much for most people.  Even a little one provides enough thrust to swamp you pretty quickly unless you've got some skills.  And, anything over 5HP is pretty much a non-starter - Especially when you're mounting it on the gunwhale.   I've used both for years.  When it's just me out fishing, I go for the trolling motor every time.  You cannot beat the silence...
  22. There is a very specific reason that some of us who run privately held companies choose to do so - sometimes despite the seeming siren song of going public or raising a bunch of capital through a VC firm. That reason is the exact polar opposite of the quoted post. We make that decision so that we keep our souls. We have a conscience and can act on it. We can speak when it matters and act when it matters. This will no doubt be an expensive decision for Magpul. They are no doubt getting all kind of pressure to recant. Their response is exactly why this stuff matters. There are a lot of things in life that seem important and a few things that really are. As a business owner, you've got to be able to like what you see staring back at you when you look in the mirror in the morning. I applaud them and will support them until the day the good Lord calls me home.
  23. Nothing unexpected here, but at least they've finally admitted the fact that they sat on their hands while Chris Stevens was killed.  It only takes holding up a Defense Secretary nominee to get them to start telling the truth.    http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2013/02/white-house-confirms-obama-did-nothing-on-benghazi.php
  24. There will certainly be a few not participating next year.
