  1. I think you just answered your own question. A career choice will require a commitment. You can't start anywhere at the top (unless your dad owns the company). You make a decision, work hard, and build your career. The military will provide testing to determine what you would be best suited for. I served in the USAF. I was trained in electronics and that training provided a base that I have built on. My job today is still electronics related. The educational benefits following military service are pretty nice. I think many young people go off to college with no idea of where they want to go in life. The military gives you an opportunity to figure that out and a means to pursue further education once you have a better idea of where you want to go. I don't mean to sound like a recruiter but after raising a bunch of kids I can't help but try to give advice. The choice, of course, is yours. We all make good choices and bad choices. I hope you make more good than bad. Good luck!
  2. You're so smart!
  3. Hmmmm.... It says ERROR: Video File Not Found!
  4. Join the military, become a man, learn a skill and build on it. It was a great start for me and gave me a direction to follow for the rest of my life. I'm sure at your age you feel you are a man and I mean no disrespect when I say become a man. You'll be suprised how much your outlook on life will change in just a few years. You can certainly mature and be successful without serving but you could consider it a shortcut. You asked for suggestions, that's what worked for me.
  5. As stange as it may sound when talking about a politician, I do actually believe that. I've looked at his voting record.
  6. Voted. I don't think these polls ever provide the desired results. I guess that's why we never hear about them once they're removed from the media's web site. If it went the other way, I suppose it would be front page news.
  7. There should be a maximum dollar amount a team can spend. And by team, I mean one car, including a backup. Anything you can do without going over the cap would be fair game. Put innovation back in the mix.
  8. I'm hoping to make it to the East TN June Shoot next Saturday. It'll be a bit of a drive from Morristown but sounds like it will be worth it. Hope to be able to fire off some of those rounds the indoor ranges don't allow. Still, it would be great to have a place "right around the corner".
  9. My dad got me an Italian Carcano for my birthday when I turned 12. The same type weapon used by Oswald on Kennedy. I still have it. I haven't fired it in probably 30 years but would never part with it. He had cut the stock down, refinished it, and put my initials in it. Probably really screwed it up as far as collector value but it's priceless to me. He's been gone for a while now but I think about him every time I open my gun safe. I hope you can do the same for your son.
  10. You really wouldn't want to know her sister.....really. I got the only good one of the group and yup, she's a keeper. For her birthday we went to the range, a gunshow, to dinner, then front row seats at the MMA cage fights. She said it was the best birhtday ever.
  11. That would be my preference. Unfortunately I have to drive over an hour to a range. I see you're in Jeff City. You know anywhere closer than Sevierville to shoot? I was debating going to Tri Cities Gun Depot or Coal Creek Armory today, decided on Coal Creek because of the range, checked their web site for hours (at about 2:30) and found that they close the range at 4 on Saturdays for carry class qualifications. Foiled again. A group of us between Knoxville and Tri Cities need to get together, lease some property, and start a gun club so we have a place nearby to shoot.
  12. Great advice! Do you just through the damaged rounds in the trash? What's the best (safest) way to dispose of them?
  13. I'm thinking of cruising up to check out Tri Cities Gun Depot today. I'd like to do some shooting too. Any chance they have a range or is there one in the area?
  14. If I had to choose between the two.....the VTX.
  15. Great story. Great men.
  16. I just wish I had a 1911 to upgrade. I actually have had dreams about 1911s. My version of a wet dream. Yes, I know, I'm sick.
  17. I have a S&W M&P.40. I've put probably three hundred rounds through it. It's comfortable, accurate, and I've been really happy with it. Recently I've had it loaded, by the bedside at night, with Georgia Arms JHP. I'll chamber a round at lights out and eject it in the morning before it goes in the safe for the day. (My regular carry is pocket size) I've had two rounds where the bullet has compressed into casing. I believe this is happening while chambering the round. Should I blame the ammo or do I need to do some polishing on the ramp? Maybe both? I'm looking for suggestions? I have a lot of respect for the knowledge base here and would value any input.

  20. My feelings exactly. There are a couple of companies I haven't done business with in years for reasons known only to me. I'm sure these companies feel no impact from my actions alone but I have to be true to myself. And I really haven't missed eating a Big Mac. Perhaps businesses that post will feel the collective actions of many.
  21. Wow, there are some excellent writers here. No wonder the media is anti-gun. I don't think they're afraid of the guns, I think they're intimidated by the intelligence and writing abilities of gun owners.
