Outside my home.

No... if I get to the point I feel I need to be armed at all times while at home... then for me, it's time to move.

How much ammo do you carry for EDC?
creeky replied to Backon4's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I mag (inside weapon) unless I'm traveling semi-close to home, then an extra mag in the truck. Out of state, two extra mags. -
If they stay true to the graphic novels it will be much more than your typical Zombie theme. After reading the series a while it becomes less about zombie sand more about the people left alive. The way it's shaped them, changed them and their perspective. How different people try to survive in different ways, the paths they take. I like a good zombie movie but this novel series was a lot more than I expected. You never new what was going to happen with each turn of the page. Not "who was eaten"... but little things like what they did or said. Watching their characters evolve. It was some pretty good writing and character development. I just hope the TV series doesn't try and cut corners and mess it up. I finally stopped reading the series because it was just too bleak. Hard to read some of my favorite characters started to slowly change... the whole time saying in my head "NO! NO! NO! Don't do that!! Not That!!" Hahahaha!!

There is sooooo much more to this story. It looks like they are following the comic books very well. Many of those scenes are straight out of it... artistically speaking. Can't wait to watch this. Hope it runs through many of the books. The story is really rich. When I was reading the series I was amazed at how teh story progressed, changed, and how many unexpected turns it took. Really a great series of Novels!

Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeey!!! Now there is an idea! I never thought about that. That could be a real handy thing to have!

(Not in any real order...) • Blade Runner - Just really cool, love crime noir style of it. • Clockwork Orange - Really messed my head up seeing that at 18. • Planet of the Apes - The original one. • Escape from New York - Was good, but is really dated now. • Wizards - An animated movie by Ralph Bakshi. Real cutting edge stuff in animation at the time. • Solider - With Kurt Russel. Just a pretty fun movie.

I wonder how well those little 12 volt solar panels work? Anyone ever messed with them? The insulin fridge is pretty neat and small... but it's teh same price as a little larger travel cooler.

I do have a deep freeze. We already keep some 2 liters of water frozen in there to help cool the main fridge. I recently started freezing 32oz. Gatorade bottles of water as well thinking that they would fit in a small cooler better. Looks like we're thinking in the same direction. I guess you guys can tell reading "One Second After" really kind of creeped me out. Hahaha!!

Thanks guys! Got some great suggestions. Think i'm going to do a combination of things. First, and the cheapest... Make some Freezer bags specifically for a mini-igloo cooler I have while I save up for an electric car cooler like the Coleman "HVYMtl" linked to. I may also add another 5 gallon gas can to the rotation for the generator.

Just found a post on Lifehacker on how to make yoru own Freezer packs! Pretty cool! <-- Get it... "Cool"... uh... it's a cold joke. Link

That's a good idea! Hadn't thought about that. Several vials could fit in an old thermos pretty easy. Also a case of those "Break In two" cold packs might work VERY well. That way I could keep an emergency box of them and " break" as needed. Basically his supply of insulin and even his test strips could fit in a small igloo cooler with plenty of room to spare for cooler packs. Awesome Idea!

Background... During the flood we were trapped at home for two days. No big deal. One of the days we were without power. Normally not a big deal. Thing is we order insulin by mail and try to keep plenty on stock and it has to be refrigerated. Needless to say my wife went into instant worry mode! (Too many things running in her head: how long with no power, etc.) The water dropped low enough that her brother was able to cross our creek and bring us an extra small generator. (enough to run a fridge) he has able to leave before the rains came again and then we were stuck again. But man... that noisy old generator was music to her ears! It made all the difference. So now... we have a generator and keep and extra amount of gas handy. So now we have been talking and trying to plan that part a little better. At my wife's suggestion (and I agree), she doesn't want to solely depend on a generator should we lose power for an extended period. (She brings up Centerville during the flood and that teh generator could break and we not be able to fix it.) So my question is this... in the summer time should we lose power for an extended amount of time how can I keep Insulin at the right temperature should we run out of gas for the generator? (FYI: Insulin needs to be keep at about 36º-46º F before opened, once opened you got about a month and can keep it at 59º-86º F) Here are the options I can think of... 1. Use 1 quart frozen water bottles from the deep freeze in a smaller cooler for just the insulin. Rotating out. 2. I have a spring fed creek that stays about 45 degrees and flows year round. I could make a small spring house out of cinder blocks to keep it in there. But would have to make sure I could get to it if there was a flood. And that another flood wouldn't wash anything in it away. 3. 12 volt mini cooler. The type people use in cars. I could hook it up to a Deep Cell battery or to the vehicle. I'm leaning at doing all three. For some redundancy. Can anyone think of anything else? Any other suggestions?

Only your reputation. I not harp'n on you man... really. I have been there myself. Especially when I was younger. The only thing losing my cool got me was a loss of perspective. Can't say I blame you. The best way to get yourself some satisfaction is to go out and find a better job.

Yes BUY ONE!!! I just recently bought one. (A couple of weeks ago used.) It has got to be one of the funniest guns I have shot in a long time. My sons LOVE it!! I had two failures to feed, but it was because my son wasn't dropping the bolt. He was slowing it down by holding on to it. Once I showed him what he was doing It was all good. It was bone dry when I bought it and dirty. I should have cleaned it but was in a hurry. Did a quick swab down the barrel and through some oil on a tooth brush and gave the chamber a quick scrub and off we went! I just orderd two more mags from CDNN for $26.99 together + $5.99 shipping. G&L has a parts kit for about $15 bucks I think in case you just want to have some extra springs and stuff. We ran about 300ish rounds through it. No real problems. Ran Remington and Federal's through it just fine. It has some weight to it which is nice. I have shot an MP5 with a full stock full auto, and weight wise it reminded me of it. One thing it did do was make me want a MP5 9mm Clone! Hahahaha!! In retrospect if I had the extra money... I think I would have rather have bout a pistol and SBR'd it, added a full stock, then saved for a suppressor. Mine has a fake can that slides over the barrel. Can't say how easy they are to clean, I still have to take mine apart. I couldn't believe how much fun it is to shoot!! GET ONE!!

It would be really nice to see a nice long post, or blog about your trips experiences. What worked, what didn't, what you would do differently, people you met, etc. Congratulations!!

My kids have been wanting to go, but they are not the same as when I was a kid. Yeah... I know I sound like an old man. I remember tons of used rifles and shotguns, raffles and one time a "fast draw" demonstration. Now I just take them once a year to Knob Creek.

Thinking Of Switching To A Revolver For EDC
creeky replied to krunchnik's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Pretty much sums up what I think as well. Only thing I can think to add is personal experience is the best motivator and educator for evaluating what you think you should carry and why. People can give opinions based off their own personal experiences. That, (I think) is why people tend to be passionate about their opinions. -
Thanks! Been following the Webley thread as well... finally swallowed my pride and figured I'd ask! Hahaha!!!

What does "SOG" stand for? Is there a link?

That is what I found out that night. One minute fine... next minute... no so nice. Thanks for laying out a decent area for us!

Normally i would agree... we have some old friends we are meeting there cause it is the half way point. I have been to the Zoo before about 18 years ago without kids. On the spur of the moment we got off the interstate at about 11:00pm and decided to grab a room and see the zoo the next day. Let's just say it was an eye opener real quickly!! "JackDm3"... Found the thread you were talking about. Thanks! (LINK for others...)

My wife is talking about wanting to take the kids to the Memphis Zoo in a couple of months. A weekend trip, meet up with some friends... grab a room, blah, blah, blah... Can any of the "Memphis 'TGO' Mafia" answer a few questions? 1. Is the Zoo posted? (I am assuming so.) 2. What areas do I need to pretty much avoid, and what areas should I try and stick to? 3. Besides the Zoo... what other places should we think about going to? (My boys are 10 & 13, and both my wife and I don't drink alcohol... btw.) Thanks!
