SURFACE RUST on a SIG?!?!?
Kevo replied to Magiccarpetrides's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
An acquaintance of mine inherited a Sig P220 that he said had never been fired. As he unzipped the pistol rug I heard angels singing, the pistol was BEAUTIFUL. He motioned for me to pick it up and as I did looked at the other side. I was horrified by pits so deep you could have stood a tooth pick up in them. I didn't drop the magazine or check the chamber, I just put it down bewildered. I figured that sitting in a rug in a safe untended for years had ruined the pistol. However he told me later that his uncle had shot the pistol and it had worked just fine. Rust is like head lice, no shame in getting it as long as you get rid of it. -
I jogged 2 miles today wearing polyester uniform shorts and a 1.5 inch leather belt. I don't carry(yet) but my cell phone stays in place slightly forward of my hip. I think my GLOCK19 would be a nuisance but surely one of the polymer 380's would stay in place IWB. Sorry no experience with holsters just unconventional jogging shorts!

Well the Bucheimer holster and 308 blanks are spoken for. Will PM tlondon and hotshot! I can't make the PC shoot (work) but we'll work something out.

ITEMS ARE SPOKEN FOR BY TLONDON and HOTSHOT:) I have a Bucheimer black leather holster. Believe it was used for a .38/.357 6 inch barrel double action revolver. I measured 10 inches from snapped thumb break to bottom of holster. Leather flaps down over your belt and then snaps around the holster part. I also have (3) 20 round boxes of Lake City Army Ammunition Plant 7.62mm NATO M82 blanks lot LC 12807. PM me any questions. I will happily Priority Mail you the holster but the blanks will be FTF only in Chattanooga or at Prentice Cooper! I can email (cell phone)pics if needed. ITEMS ARE SPOKEN FOR BY TLONDON and HOTSHOT

I have also used Mr. Scott for a transfer. Nice guy and very knowledgeable.

Delton optics, cause the last Delton help thread was helpful

I know with my friends 4X acog on my flat top Del-Ton you don't notice the front sight post. I would be easier(for me) and cheaper(for you) to raise a normal scope a little rather than replace the front sight. If I hit a sheet of paper at 200 yards with iron sights I would be framing it, why do you need a scope? -
I think that you will definitely be trading DOWN to the Hungarian Clone.

Well I haven't been here very long but it seems like he either needs a set of keys to the handgun asylum or to be locked inside of it. Oops.... I meant forum, Sir!

It takes me over an hour from start to finish to clean my traditional AR. It gets dirty from the flash hider to the inside of the the buffer tube. I have a friend with a MAK who hasn't cleaned it since he ran out of corrosive ammo years ago. If you don't like spending alot of time cleaning, I wouldn't get a traditional AR.

Vise grips, razor blades, special tools, action blocks? How will you guys ever appreciate your first build unless you turn it into a one man version of the 3 Stooges like I did.

Try a Glock 19 again, make sure you get the skin between your thumb and pointer finger mashed as high as possible on the backstrap. If I can't turn you to the Glock side you should try a S&W model 908.

If the chamber or locking lugs have carbon build up, or gunk from shell casings then the bolt won't close completely. Perhaps when you pull the trigger some of the hammer blow is absorbed by the whole assembly moving forward ever so slightly. I bought a gi cleaning kit and chamber brush from the army surplus store down the road. I use alot of CLP and push it in really hard and turn it clockwise 7 full rotations. I don't know if this will cause premature wear, but I do know that it works for me. Maybe someone with more experience knows a better way? I was having extraction issues and blaming light primer strikes on my Wolf ammo. But now that I think about the rest of the case went bang every time....

I built a Del-Ton complete parts kit without any special tools. Since then I have purchased a cheap $6 castle nut wrench because my strip of leather and a pipe wrench didn"t tighten it down enough. Even though I assembled the lower mostly in my lap, it was a pain in the ARse. I do plan on getting a barrel wrench, and the tool that keeps you from crawling around the dining room floor looking for a tiny piece of metal at 1AM on a work night. If you don't buy any special tools you should video it so you can laugh at yourself later. Enjoy it, it's only your first time once:)

I had problems with my gas carrier key wiggling loose at about 200 rounds on my del-ton build. After restaking the key and learning how to properly use my chamber brush it has ran flawlessly for about 500 rounds. I use CLP exclusively in it and it is wet enough that after some ZOMBIE WAVE drills you can see the steam! I use P mags now because I was having trouble with the first round not being stripped from a couple of green follower aluminum mags I have. If you switch uppers with someone and shoot both combos with same ammo and magazine you should be able to tell which half needs some tweaking. good Luck

Thanks for the pic OhShoot, that is like the one I have recently enjoyed shooting. The first one I shot was a model 660 or very similar. I may even have the courage to publicly post a write up on my CHEAP 22 plinkers when I become more computer and forum savvy.

All weapons are subject to malfunctions. That said my 14 year old G19 has went bang EVERY time. I don't have an official round count but I'm guessing over 4,000. HOWEVER, it has been limp-wristed once by a petite new shooter on her first shot. IMHO you should pick ONE and obtain all the gear you'll need to maintain, secure and train with it. I do understand your dilemna, before I bought my Glock I seriously considered several 4inch barreled 357 magnums because of their versatility.

You guys clean your Glocks? I detail stripped my G19 for the first time after 14 years of owning and was impressed by how little gunk had collected in a couple places. I googled several videos and went step by step. BUT I bought my glock new. An Armorer will know exactly what to look for if someone has ran unsafe reloads or corrosive ammo through it. They should also know if it needs any factory "upgrades"/ recalls, but don't quote me on that.

I built a mid-length chrome lined 16 inch barrel kit last July. My front sight is slightly canted but will still zero with rear sight adjusted all the way. Gas key was loose after about 200 rounds. Since restaking it and learning how to properly use the chamber brush zero malfunctions. It now has had 500 wolf, and almost 200 brass cased ammo through it. My ciener conversion has also put about 500 rounds through with maybe a dozen malfunctions. I am not a good rifle shot(yet;)) but with an Eotech at 100 yards I hit the silhouette every time. I will definitely buy from them again.

+1 to GT. I am very curious about Hero Gear though and will definitely check them out.

My Suggestion is first buy an AR15 receiver and an AR10 receiver. They are both reasonably cheap and available. Won't take up much space and THEN you can take your time while you drool over your computer screen looking at all your different options. I have a 5.56 upper & a ciener 22LR conversion for it. But I rarely shoot farther than 50 yards. Enjoy your possibilities!

"Once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny." Star Wars references aside, the two people I know well who wear a gun on their hip for a living, carry S&W 45's. I prefer Glocks 9mms, and Sig and 1911 45's. I have never tried a S&W M&P though. Good Luck!

I used to think 22LR pistols were useless. 14 years later I have matured a little, and ammo prices have matured alot. You have the nicest H&R 22LR revolver I have ever seen. I have shot two others and they were both accurate and fun to shoot. One was similar to yours but SAO with groove rear sight. The other was DA/SA but we had to remove cylinder to load/unload. To be honest I was shocked both times when my shooting buddies put these pistols on the table. Both were owned by "older" gentleman who I thought only owned fine quality arms. I had been too embarassed to bring my JC higgins model 29 to shoot with either of them because it looks CHEAP. and all of a sudden these guys have guns that look CHEAP. Long story short, a H&R ain't a Colt Woodsman, but they are both fun to shoot. And they aren't cheap, just simple. Thanks for your write up and the info you post about Prentice Cooper

2nd Generation Glock 19 with Hogue slip on. Series 70 nickel plated Colt Lightweight Commander with Pachmayr checkered rubber wraparound grip only comes in second because it's gone....

16 hours. Bought a FIE 25ACP for $40 bucks from fellow Sonic Employee after shift. Went to kmart next morning and bought box of ammo for $6.99. Went to the woods and shot at some discarded beer bottles. Couldn't hit one from 10 feet away. Sold for $50 to assistant manager before next shift. Couldn't have sold it to a nicer guy...
