I thought I heard you say that today at the range. Great to hear.

I'm a new shooter... Can I participate?
CatsEye replied to PirateQui's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Music City Tactical Shooters shoot IDPA in Dickson on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month. The website will give you information about what you need and how things work. New shooters are always welcome. Check them out here. http://www.mctsclub.com/ -
I carry the 124gr +P HST.

Very nice. It looks great. I have an XD40 that I really like, I'm sure you will too.

Dan Burwell does fine work from everything I hear. I decided to do the "Do it yourself" work. Since I don't even pretend to be a gunsmith I decided to only do the work on pages 25-40 of the presentation. It was easy to do and only took about 30 minutes. The improvement was noticeable and I am very happy. I shoot the M&P9 Pro and absolutely love it.

The M&P is a fine weapon. The ergonomics are great and the trigger just keeps getting better with use.

I have shot several Glocks and own an XD40. Between the two I prefer the XD. Can't go wrong with either though. Since this is the style you are going for, I have to mention the M&P for your consideration.

Reloading Powder Selection & Ordering
CatsEye replied to kckndrgn's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I like to keep my powder supply simple to avoid any type of confusion. The Titegroup powder you are thinking about will work great for .40s and 9mm. I use it in each of these also. -
I have the open style that came on my M&P Pro and it picks up the light very well. I shoot it in IDPA and in that environment have never had it snag on anything. As far as cleaning, I just wipe it off with a soft rag after shooting and try not to get any solvent on it. If you do mess it up it is very easy to change out and takes just a couple of minutes.

Finger printed today.

Does the grip safety improve the safety of the gun? Who knows. What I do know is that you never know its there while shooting. The spring on it is very light so any normal shooting grip presses the safety.
-
Should be a fine weapon then. I had a Model 84 for several years and really liked it. One of the guns I wish I had never gotten rid of.

Finally going to get my CCW permit!

The Lee balance scale isn't the fanciest around but it works fine. Once you get it "zeroed" it is dead on accurate.

I have the M&P Pro and love it. When I first received it I tried the grips and decided I liked the small size best. Test firing at the range with each of the grips clearly showed that I shoot best with the medium size. Whether this is because it fits me better or because it more closely resembles the XD I was shooting I couldn't tell you. The only thing I wasn't pleased with was the infamous "crunchy" feeling in the trigger takeup. I found an easy set of "do it yourself" trigger improvements that took that away and made for a very nice trigger. Here is a copy of a post I made on another BBS about the subject. Dan Burwell is famous for his M&P trigger jobs but he is also kind enough to publish instructions on how to do it yourself. I in no way claim to be any sort of gunsmith so I was a little nervous about tearing into it to the full extent of the presentation. From what I can tell, the initial "grittiness" of the trigger comes from the trigger bar depressing the fireing pin block. To improve this and the trigger break I only performed the work on pages 25 thru 40 of the presentation. This part is fairly easy to do. It took me about 30 minutes and I am very happy with the results. Of course, like anything else, take your time and be carefull because you are doing it at your own risk. http://www.burwellgunsmithing.com/misc/M&Ptriggerjob.pdf His website is here. http://www.burwellgunsmithing.com

I shoot the M&P9 Pro in IDPA and love it. It is a good weapon and very smooth to shoot.

a worthwhile article about IDPA/IPSC/USPSA
CatsEye replied to deerslayer's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
I thought it was a pretty good article. I have always wondered how being able to draw from concealment, engage multiple targets quickly and accurately while moving or using cover then changing magazines and quickly clearing weapon problems all while under the pressure of the clock and scrutiny of my peers is a bad thing. I have no illusion that this is combat training but my alternative is to stand and shoot targets at a range at my leisure. I am also very sure of the fact that I would be much more carefull and cautious if the threat of people shooting back were real. I doubt many of us who enjoy the shooting sports would be "running and gunning" in a real life situation. -
Where do you buy your reloading supplies?

+1 on Mid-South. -
I like how the 165s shoot in my XD. Good bullet weight, good velocity and manageable recoil.

IDPA Match This Saturday (10/25) - Bowling Green KY
CatsEye replied to GaryXD's topic in Competitive Shooting Sports
Can you drop by Clarksville on your way up? If anyone is coming from this direction you are welcome to ride with me. See you there Robert. -
Absolutely! WWB brass is great for reloading.

I have been shooting my XD40 for a little over a year. I have a couple thousand rounds through it so far and love it. I haven't done any work to it other than grip decals. The trigger is smooth and crisp and very good for a carry weapon. I usually shoot reloads but when I purchase ammo it is usually WWB. The thing eats everything I feed it.

I'm going to be out of town so I won't be able to attend. Catch yall next time.

Curious, how many reloaders on the board?
CatsEye replied to musicman's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
