  1. Timestepper ... ... DaveS ... ... and the rest of ya'll ... ... (especially the banjo part, Timestepper) ... ...   Please, continue to post.  I too have made a fool of myself more times than I care to remember, but I ain't blessed with the story-telling gene that ya'll have.   But for the sake of fairness, the dumbest thing (okay, maybe not the dumbest, but one that I will admit to) was back in my teen years when an older guy was trying to teach me how to "pop" a snake's head off by "cracking" it like a whip.  I musta failed to get that wrist snap right, 'cause when I pulled back, the snake wrapped around my head and bit my ear.  Probably would have made for some new dance moves if anyone had been there to film it.  Dang near wet my pants, too.  Now unwrapping a 4- to 5-foot long snake from your head while combining an Indian rain dance with go-go dance moves ain't easy, but it can be done.  Getting the snake to let go of my ear required help.  Thank God the snake didn't get my nose.  Don't know why, but that seems worse.
  2. As others have noted, just stay close and watch it for the next several times it's used.   Worked a buncha fires that started with the dryer.   Even worked one where the homeowner extinguished the fire before we arrived on the scene -- by smothering the fire with dry dog food, of all things ...
  3. And, apparently, contrary to the old adage, the sword is mightier than the pen ...
  4. Some of these guys may have stormed the beaches at Normandy ...   It's a crying shame they have to "storm" the monument honoring their service.   I, for one, am sick to death of the "blame game" between the Democrats and Republicans.  It's a pity, a shameful pity, that our "leaders" can't lead ... ... and I don't care WHICH party you want to blame.  Seems to me there's enough wrong for the blame to be shared among both parties.  And I can't see it getting any better unless and until the that bunch of children forget their "party," and figure out we're all supposed to be Americans first.  I don't know how to fix it.  But then again, I'm not collecting tax dollars for NOT doing my job, either ...
  5. Didn't make it, and it was in my neck of the woods.  Same group -- I believe -- that does the Lebanon show. And that's why I didn't make it ... ...
  6. They are great for times when you CAN'T carry any other way ... but then, that's what the little NAA .22 mag is for ... front pocket, shirt pocket, and no one's the wiser.   Got one, but hardly ever use it -- ain't the most comfortable thing I ever wore. 'Course, that COULD be due to my huge "abdominal muscles," lol.
  7. Still good people in this sorry world.  There's proof of two in this story ...
  8. Best way I have found to "handle" annoyance calls -- solicitations, cold sales, etc. -- is to hand the phone to my 2-year-old grandson (when he's here).  He LIKES to talk.  Can't understand a tithe of what he says, though.   I usually just hang up when he ain't around.   And as for fire and police donations, I just tell those annoying, pushy, arrogant folks that I make my donations locally -- and in person.  THEN I hang up.   The ones that really chap my butt are the robo-calls, the ones that want you to push a number to speak with a real person.  Sometimes get 5 or 6 calls in a day from the same number (or occasionally, a different number, but with the same recording).  Haven't figured a way to stop those calls yet.  Wish I could.   I've also had a problem with a collection agency (maybe?) calling, asking for a relative of mine.  I swear, it always sounds like the same person calling.  Bet I've told her 40 times that he doesn't live here, has NEVER lived here, WILL NEVER live here, and no, I DON'T know how to get in touch with him.  She always apologises and says she'll take my number off the "contact" list.  Then a month or so later, she (or someone who sounds a LOT like here) will call again.   Yeah, I know: answering machine.  But if I could read the dang caller ID number (without my glasses), I wouldn't need an answering maching.
  9. Outstanding!  Will keep you and the missus -- and all the little ones -- in my prayers, asking the Lord to richly bless you and yours ...
  10. Be glad to ... ... but I'd hafta ease my pain with what you just picked up (for a steal)!   Seriously, good buy ...
  11. If you want your money back, just let me know
  12. Don't mean to make light of this but the thread title made me think of "El Dorado," where John Wayne asks the gunsmith to help Mississippi, James Caan's character, find a weapon for a man who can't shoot.  He came up with a sawed-off shotgun with a pistol grip.  The gunsmith said it had belonged to a fellow who couldn't see too good, so he just aimed at the sound.  A fight happened in a saloon, and the piano player was making so much noise that he couldn't hear the other guy, so he shot the piano player.   Wish I could have found a clip.
  13. Heck, fellers, I never DID blame that lil revolver.  Figured all along it was ME ... and hearing others tell about HITTING what they were shooting at at any distance much, well, I'm just a little shamed.   But you are right, Aces&8s -- I figure it for a last-ditch, up-close and nasty protector.  And I CAN, and it WILL, do that.   Patton, 'til I put those oversized rubber grips on it, I was struggling to get two FINGERS on it, much less two hands. I'll give that a try.   I do seriously believe that you fellas have motivated me to try again ... and again ... til maybe I can hit out to 10 or 12 feet at least.   Since it's been my constant companion, maybe I've taken it for granted that it was last-ditch, and haven't applied myself as I should (most of my practice is with 9's and 45's).  But since sometimes I have to leave those at home or in the vehicle, obviously I need more work with the NAA.  Think I'll feed it another box or two, next time I'm on the farm.
  14. Aces&8s, it IS a purty lil thang, ain't it?  Shoots good, too, if it's as good as mine.   But ... ... ... but ... ... you can HIT with it at 20 feet????? Now I'm feeling old and decrepit.  I can hit what I aim at, out to 7 or 8 feet.  That's it.   And practice HAS NOT improved my abilities past that point.  Obviously, it's me ... ... ... ...   Dang it, think I'll have to try again.
  15. Really glad to hear that you are healing ... and thoughts and prayers still for complete healing.   It's amazing how much we take the use of our fingers and thumbs for granted until something comes along and buggers up how they work.
  16. 3 reasons:   1st, I work to make things as "safe and secure" as possible (sometimes it ain't possible). 2nd, my home, my refuge, is as safe and secure as I can make it with security system, CCTV, a firearm on me and others available pretty much anywhere in my home. 3rd (and most important) -- my eternal destiny is safe and secure (not my doing, but the Good Lord's- got that fixed many years ago).
  17. I am certainly no expert -- I usually stay out of any "political" or military debates -- political, because I don't have much use for ANY career politician, of any party, and military, because I HOPE someone knows more than I do about military deployment/capabilities/etc.   But ... it seems to me that, no matter what we or anyone else in the world might do, very little of anything positive can come out of a military action in the Middle East.  Those folks have been killing each other over there for hundreds, if not thousands, of years.  Don't know what anyone can do to stop or even curtail it.   Personal thoughts are, if they are intent on killing each other, they can go ahead.   But then, what do I know? Always heard that the enemy of my enemy was my friend.  Don't know how this applies when BOTH parties seem to be our enemies.  Also, always heard "better the devil you know than the one you don't know."  Again, personal thoughts are, better to not have any dealings with ANY devils.   'Course, I'm just an old ignorant hillbilly.
  18. With the NAA -- 22 mag.  Most of the firearms I own could be bought, and I would find a replacement.  The NAA -- well, it would have to be another NAA.  Goes everywhere I go, even when the bigger and better have to stay home.
  19. Been 3 or 4 times.  Vow to never go again each time.  Then, next show, seems I go to see if it has improved.   So far, it hasn't.   Bought one and sold one there, but had the deal lined up beforehand, and used the show as a good place to meet.  So far, that's the ONLY good thing I can think of to say for it.
  20. The first NAA 22 LR that I had, had the folding holster grips --- didn't like them at all.  Might have just been the one I had, but there was a lot of "play" when used as a grip.  'Course, these ain't target guns anyways, but holding a lil pistol with floppy grips didn't help me hit anything.  And with my hands, I could only get one finger on the birds head grips that came with the gun.  That was ... ... just barely ... ... okay with the 22LR, but it was blamed hard to hold on to with the 22mag.   As noted above, go with the oversized rubber grips --- OR the boot grips (wouldn't mind trying those myself).  Also as noted above, get a decent holster.  Leather has been what works for me.
  21. Had one of the NAA 22 LRs -- sold it to fund the two-cylinder version.  Carry mine with the 22 Mag cylinder, and 2nd and 4th round are rat shot.  Figure it would work for a no-legged snake, and with it being the 2nd and 4th round, if applied to the face, would probably (at the least) discourage a 2-legged snake. I haven't tried it but my guess is that a 22 mag round in the eyes would at least allow me to escape a bad situation.   But I'm no good past about 7 feet with it.  I also added the rubber overmolded grips.  Still hides in a jeans pocket, a dress shirt pocket, a sport coat or suit pocket ... ... well, you get the picture.  I also consider it my "last resort" -- -- well, except for my Kershaw.  And I'd have to be closer than 7 feet to use that ...   It ain't exactly what I'd rather have for a gun fight, but it's a heckuva sight better than throwing rocks (or using that Kershaw).  AND, it goes "BANG" every time the trigger is pulled.  Makes an unbelievable racket, too, for a 22 mag.  Guess it's that short barrel.   But I would have been just as happy with the 22 mag version without the 22LR cylinder.   Guess I could've just said I like mine.
  22. Here's another one that falls into the "recall" list.  Dang!
  23. This definitely puts things into perspective.   Appreciate all who serve/have served.
  24. Well ... ... ... we all know where HIS brains are ... ... ...
  25. Sorry.  Lost one of my best friends more than 20 years ago, and I still miss him. Will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
