I've been wanting to do this for years. I'm a pistol guy, so some long gun shooting would be a fun new experience.

Video: Security guard saves lives with an AR-15 rifle
BigK replied to Steve32's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Not to mention the recorded evidence of him shooting at fleeing suspects who no longer pose a threat. Luckily they were still inside the bldg when he fired. -
Welcome to the party from La Vergne. +1 for the TWRA range (Stones River Hunter Education Center) on Hobson Pike. Good deal at $5.50/trip or $101/year.

squirrel hunting strategy and tactics
BigK replied to Fire/hunting guy's topic in Hunting and Fishing
I've only ever fooled with the small of the back and the hind legs. Dredge them in egg roll them in flour and pan fry. Cooked like that and served w/ fried eggs and biscuits is the only way I've ever had them. That dumplin recipe sounds fantastic, though. -
Not all teachers are flaming lib-tards, just like not all gun owners are beer-swilling rednecks or criminals. Like everything else, it's a matter of perspective. We don't hear many good stories, just the ones were somebody did something they shouldn't. One of my kids is grown and the other is in HS, so b/w the 2 of them they've had dozens of teachers over the years. I've only had issues with one or 2 of them. Admittedly, it was the same kind of issue the OP mentions. 1st day of school they made us come get my son's Star Wars backpack, b/c it had "weapons" (light sabers) depicted on it. I threw a fit, called them names...basically made an ass of myself for their stupid policy. Basically, I cemented in their minds exactly what kind of beer-swilling redneck I must be.

I feel optimistic and I base it entirely on one premise: Greed will force manufacturers to ramp up production. They won't do it out of any kind of altruistic ideals. They won't do it because they love us. They won't do it because we've been loyal customers. They will do it to make money, period. Furthermore, they will only raise prices enough to recover their ramp-up costs, which will make them look kind. But in reality, they know this won't last forever and they don't wanna sit on all those extra machines or face the public scorn for laying off workers when "crazy" has past. ...and I don't blame them a bit.

No trick question. I was just curious how many rounds you have to put through a gun before you trust it enough to carry it . I don't have a hard/fast rule for this myself. I've started carrying some guns after as few as 100 rounds in a single range trip. Yet, others I wouldn't trust my life to no matter how many rounds ago the last failure was.

If I see black BATFE helicopters fly over La Vergne heading south to Shelbyville, I'll shoot you a PM. BTW...I grew up in Shelbyville (class of '88) Go Eagles!

Hope your trip goes well.

That is a good explanation from them. With more ammo produced than last year, the question is "Where is all the ammo?". The answer is "Sitting in some hoarders' safes".

That's how I loaded everything until my 9mm volume met the needs for a Dillon press. I think it's the most versatile setup out there.
-
Nice! I love mine. I had to pay MSRP due to my lack of patience, but I don't regret it.
-
I used to feel the same way, but the more I thought about it the more I came to realize it's another way to attack our freedoms. They are taking away enough of our rights without me voluntarily giving them up.

Welcome from La Vergne. I grew up in Shelbyville, CHS class of '88.

Do you guys re-size brass before or after you clean?
BigK replied to bikertrash2001's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
I tumble first then deprime/size my brass, because I quit cleaning primer pockets about 3 months into my reloading hobby. I've never been happier. In all fairness, I only reload pistol ammo for plinking. If I were reloading rifle rounds, I'd use my lonely universal depriming setup then tumble and clean pockets. -
I wouldn't go that route either. For $20 more you can get this press and these dies and you'll be much happier until you can upgrade. I've seen a handloader used and it's just for emergencies, IMO.

Just curious, how many rounds do you expect to put through it before you feel confident enough to bet your life on it?

If everyone who's ever flipped someone off got 30 days in jail for it, I'd invest every penny I have in prison construction companies and retire early. Still no saying she is in the right or doesn't deserve to learn a lesson...just saying the judge was being a bully.
-
She's a ditz alright, but I can't help but wonder what kind of chip the judge has on his shoulder. Like strickj said, he was all jovial and light-hearted until she said "Adios". She seems dumb as a bag of hammers, but he kind of lead her to believe his proceedings were rather informal up to that point. No excuse for her actions after that, of course. I'm constantly telling my daughter, that it doesn't matter how mad you are at someone, if they have authority over you, it's best to bite your tongue. Otherwise you risk their anger, which has power behind it.

Back when I was getting started, you were the one that convinced me that the turret press was the way to go. I have been re-stating that advice ever since and am still convinced you were right. I still use it every week for .45s, but upgraded to a Dillon for 9mm due to volume. Both presses are fun to use.

Thanks to an awesome fellow TGO member, half of the material is now spoken for. Broomhead and a couple who PM'd/texted me have the rest spoken for.

Pretty cool, but what a waste of time. Says the guy sipping coffee, sitting in front of his iPad, surfing the web.

I'm copying the press I saw on another forum. It's very similar to the one Old Faithful Holsters sells, but with MUCH better hinges. I bought 3/4" MDF, ordered some heat resistant thermoform foam online, and plan to use clamps to hold it closed while cooling. It'll look a lot like a waffle iron when I'm done, only square. MMMM waffles.
