  1. I have both of the Streamlights too. They are very handy and the batteries last a decent while. My bad...my Stylus is NOT the pro, it's the one that takes AAAA batteries.
  2. I'm as impressed that he spent enough time outside in -40 degree temps for that significant of an amount of time. And, he was eating snow, which lowered his body temp. I think he was secretly a yetti.
  3. This guy is so out of touch, if he believes that.
  4. The way the story started with him ordering the campers onto their hands and knees, I was worried it would end with someone squealing like a pig.
  5. I get that "ignorance of the law is no excuse" and all. I wouldn't have thought twice about a knife with a blade under 4". So, I'd have been right there with him. There's too many states, cities/municipalities for a traveller to know the laws everywhere they go. Makes me glad I prefer to just stay home.
  6. You guys with your fancy marbles and steel shot are making me feel like I grew up deprived. All I ever shot out of mine was rocks. If you get a nice flat one, you can see it spiral and hear it buzz when you let her rip.
  7. Nice, indeed. I LOVE the idea of shooting 7.62X25 from a 1911. Ironically, I did the exact opposite with my CZ 52. It came with a 9mm conversion barrell. When the good bullets ran out, I started shooting the cheap ones. I gotta switch back!
  8. I gotta call BS on this whole story. I saw Crocodile Dundee, he didn't get arrested...and that was a real knife.
  9. I always wondered what would happen if a citizen shot an LEO during a no-knock.. Even if they had the right house, he might think it's robbers and shoot first. Worse is that case where they kill a law-abiding citizen like the case DaveTN mentioned. It's tragic, really.
  10. +1 to that! I am so glad my oldest is 15 yrs old now and goes with me to the range often enough to be proficient. It's nice to have my 1st choice in HD weapon available again with no little ones running around.

    1911's

The Ruger SR1911 is the only one I've ever shot or owned. I know they get better as the price doubles, but it's everything I hoped it would be. I hope I never have the misfortune of shooting a high-end 1911 like a Nighthawk or a Les Baer. It'd ruin the whole 1911 experience for me, since I'll never afford one.
  12. I've been wanting a 20" with 7+1 too. I can't find one I like in my price range.

The location of the slide release is what I dislike the most about my Mossy 500A. They put it on the wrong side of the gun IMHO.
  14. "Bringing a gun to noise complaint" isn't the issue here, IMO. Brandishing that gun is. From what I could see/hear, I don't see any defense for him to have his gun "out" or confronting them at all. According to the video, he'd been complaining to cops all evening. I didn't hear anything about the police responding to any of those calls, but they may have. So, I'm assuming that if they did respond, they partiers turned the music down before the cops arrived or after the cops told them to. Maybe they turned the music back up as soon as the cops left, who knows? Regardless, you can't go take the law into your own hands, brandishing a weapon. Who does he think he is? John Wesley Hardin? I don't care how loud the party was, sane people shouldn't assume that warrants using a gun to get some music turned down.
  15. One other thing...I can't stress enough how right these guys are about the pistol grip. To make matters worse, the Mossberg 500A is the worse possible choice if you're considering a pistol grip (even if it has a stock). Notice where they put the slide release!? Try hitting that release with a pistol grip installed. You have to contort your hand/wrist around very awkwardly to reach it. It works fine with a standard stock, so consider a collapsible instead and skip the pistol grip altogether, if you're going with a Mossberg.
  16. I think shotguns make excellent SD weapons. They take far less expertise to employ and are better fight stoppers. However, triple-ought buck shot (which many consider THE best choice) will overpenetrate worse than JHP handgun or .223 bullets. I saw a demo on the Sportsman Channel where one of the .30 cal projectiles from a .000 buckshot shell from a 12 gauge went through 2 interior walls and exited the house (not brick of course). I don't like the place, but On Target in M'boro allows you to shoot shotguns on their indoor range. Too many variables (zoning, city limits, local ordinances, proximity of neighbors, etc.) to say whether you can shoot in your back yard.
  17. I took my CZ 82 out to the range yesterday and a couple of buddies went with me. They really liked the way the Makaorvs shoot and so did I. I'm shooting reloads in mine at the range and using Hornady ammo when I carry it. I've always wanted to shoot a 'real' Makarov pistol to compare it to the CZ 82. Just curious, what Makarov do you own? Bulgarian? Russian?
  18. I used about 800 out of 1000 Precicion Delta 124 gr RN FMJs and finally dusted off the rest this week. I'm loading them to 1.125" like I do all 9X19s. I personally prefer to work up loads varying the powder instead of the OAL. To me keeping the OAL constant ensures that all my 9mm reloads will cycle the same. The Precision Delta bullets are the ONLY exception I've run across so far. They have such a wide ogive that I am forced to seat them deeper (1.105") to keep the nose out of the rifling. This means even less powder than usual, which is economical, but I hate changing 2 variables at the same time (length and charge). As deep as I have to seat the 124 gr bullets, I often wondered something. I use Bullseye powder and it's dense enough for deep seating. Some powders are way bulkier and I've heard some seat their bullets as short as 1.07" or 1.08". Seems they'd be compressing the powder quite a bit at those lengths with bulky powder.
  19. I'd love to take one of their classes, but I don't think I'm in good enough shape for it. The one day class I took last weekend wore my butt out. My knees can't take the running, kneeling, and getting back up that they used to.
  20. I keep it 5-8 mph over the limit, unless the flow of traffic is faster than that. I have a radar detector, but them cops and troopers is sneaky, so I don't rely on it...especially if I'm "out in the open". It's worked so far, no speeding tickets in over 25 years. I'd love for the rural interstate speed to go up 10 or 15 mph, but ONLY if the big rigs stay out of the passing lane.
  21. Nice one...I like that!!
  22. This whole conversations made me think of when my HS f'ball coach thought we weren't hitting hard enough in practice, he'd say "Y'all quit playin' grab-ass and get in there and hit somebody". I always wondered about that turn of phrase. Was there ever an actual game called grab-ass? I can see how you'd lose a game like that, but how do you call a winner? Did all the players move out west to San Fran?
  23. The vendor had a smallish booth and since his sons were there to help, I assume it's a relatively small gun shop. Big retail outfits can absorb this kind of loss, but that's about a week's worth of groceries to a small shop owner.
  24. At the gun show last weekend I was at a booth looking at a gun. The guy running the booth went to walk around, like they do, leaving his son to hold down the fort. He seemed to know what he was doing and we talked for a minute until a really old man (70'ish) and his wife walked up. He asked if the stainless Ruger SP101 was SA/DA and the guy told him it was DAO. The old fellow picked it up trying to unhook the security cable without asking and fumble with shaky hands. As the guy tried to unhook it for him the he wrestled with the trigger not even noticing the zip tie. The guy offered to remove it, if he wanted to get a better feel. The old man nodded and the kid turned around to get some wire cutters. The old man pulled out his little pocket knife and was trying to cut the thick cable tie by the time the guy turned around with the wire dykes. The guy at the booth said 'hold up, let me get that, so you don't scratch it', but the old guy had already slid his knife under the tie and was wrenching at the tie. Me and the younger guy cringed as he tried to stop him. The old guy was shaky and didn't stop as the young guy tried to take the gun away from him. I thought the old man would accidentally cut him, but he gave up when he couldn't cut through the tie. He got frustrated and finally put the gun down. We immediately noticed a 2" gouge in the metal where the point of the blade had scratched it up pretty deep trying to wrestle the blade under the tie. When the guy at the booth said, 'hey look, you just scratched it all up', the old man just dismissed it and doddered off. I was speechless and offered to hang around while he went and got somebody. He was scared his dad was going to blame him, but there was NOTHING he could have done. I think the old guy should have had to buy the gun since he damaged it pretty bad. Nobody is gonna be able to overlook this deep gouge. What do you guys think?
  25. He's meticulous and informative, but I can't sit through his vids either. He's kind of nerdy, in a bad way. I'm not saying he's a fake, but he kinda seems like he's trying too hard to be the tacticool guy.
