Things the next generation simply won't understand
BigK replied to NoBanStan's topic in General Chat
My step brother and I got into a scuffle one day and my step dad sent us out to get 2 short peach tree limbs and one long one. He said, "y'all wanna fight, get after it until I say stop." The long one was for him when we just stood there not wanting to hit each other, he used it for motivation. -

You could always tell who cut tobacco in HS, we'd come to school w/ matching stained hands. LOL -

My first bike came from Western Auto. I thought I was the king of the road. -

I can't believe my granny and grandpa didn't get kidney stones. You could see the hard water stains on all the sinks, tub, and toilet tank. -

My grandpa finally dug a well and had an electric pump put in, but it was sulfur water. The well the porch of his house was built around had good drinking water and we used that kind of bucket to draw water. I was about 10 when they got a real toilet instead of that pot to piss in. LOL -

We had Green Stamps when I was a kid. I remember the IGA Foods near my house always had a display set up w/ empty books and a big catalog tied down on a cord to look at to see what you'd buy. -
The only thing I saw that corroborated anything they said was when they assaulted him at the traffic stop and he ran for his life, stripping off his outer shirt to lose the probes. I strongly stress that it was clear what they intended to do to him and he was literally running for his life. The rest of what the cops said is complete BS.

My grandson was so excited when our air popper arrived. He loves making popcorn with it, but NOBODY likes to eat that tasteless styrofoam, LOL. Sadly, he forgets how terrible it tastes and still makes more later. LOL

I think I might have used our air fryer once/twice, but I don't recall needing to turn things over in order for them to cook right. Ours is a basket style, not a toaster oven style. Is flipping things over something you have to do? Maybe I did shake the basket around halfway thru. I don't really recall.

How about a law that says if a congressman proposes a bill that fails to even get 30% of the votes, he/she is banned from proposing another bill until re-elected. LOL Seriously though, this is a time waster, it won't get any support and won't even get voted on by the full house.

Supercross and motocross are the only sports left on my watch list, but you have definitely piqued my interest with the ones you've name so far. I'm in!

The article we're discussing reads like the proposed law would allow enhanced permit holders to carry on posted property w/out the owner's consent. I didn't read anything that said it would remove the criminal penalty for carrying on posted private property if you leave when asked. I'd be strongly in favor of that change. That is what we really need the most.

As much as I'd benefit from its passage, I think this law violates the business owner's property rights. If the law only affected public places, I'd be all for it. I just think that if you own a property and you don't want guns there, we shouldn't be able to take away that owner's rights.

Not exactly the same thing as your ice dam, but have you seen this cool device for removing the heavy snow?
-
My cul-de-sac has a decent grade to it and was still nearly a solid sheet of ice ice over an inch thick yesterday. When we left for church I slid to the bottom and barely avoided mailboxes on the way down. It was a lot safer going back up in 4WD than going down.

The warmest things I've ever had on my feet were a pair of Keen hikers with Thinsulate. They weren't cheap, but I've had them since around '07/'08. I think the reason they work so good in cold is because of how thick the sole is. Cold just doesn't reach my piggies through this much rubber/insulation. Good thing too, because I can handle the cold better than most, but when my feet get cold, I'm done.

I could be wrong, but I suspect you already have an idea what you think is right in this case. Doing nothing when you were the one who recommended him doesn't seem right. If he doesn't know he's underperforming, that might be why he was in need of your help to get the job to begin with. I pray a wakeup call from a good friend will keep him out of need in the future.

That's a good price and it's the small ones I always have to replace. You can't beat $17 and I had enough Amazon reward points to get it free!

The littlest one is half bulldog and half beagle. He runs across the porch and slides in the snow. The big one sticks his nose in the snow and throws it up in the air. LOL

At least it stayed full size in that snowy and cold.
