  1. I completely understand that. I have divided my handguns into two categories. Plastic striker guns for carry/possible defense situations and metal single action types for range fun. I'll probably only get one or two more plastics, but there are lots of all metal guns I want. Plastic=tool. Metal=fun. Maybe that's not what your granddad would have said, but such is the state of the modern firearm. (Funny enough, my Dad's Dad was Pilgrim Holiness, and pretty much a pacifist. He wasn't an idiot though, and had a 38 that no one knew about until after he passed away and Grandma found it. She was LIVID!)
  2. Yea, I think this was my 5th or 6th (and funny enough, the smallest) order with them. They've been good so far, and I understand stuff happens. In my job I have to deal with 5 or 6 things exactly like this every day, just in medical supplies instead of gun parts. This hasn't tarnished their good rep in my book.
  3. Evening update: JoeBob emailed me back that they are sending out a replacement. +1 for JoeBob. New snafu: I just realized they sent me a carbine buffer kit when I ordered an A2 buffer kit! I was so caught up in the bent springs that I didn't even notice that yesterday! I only had a couple free minutes when I got home and opened the box yesterday. I knew the spring in the buffer was fine, as it was compressed inside the tube for the entire ride to my house. I didn't even unwrap it from the foam paper to realize it was wrong until a few minutes ago. I sent another email to JoeBob, I'm sure they'll respond in the morning. I feel like a dope for not checking that yesterday. :/
  4. Maybe so. I didn't take them out because I didn't want it to look like I did anything to them after arrival. When I first opened the package, I did bend them in the reverse direction, and they went right back to this position again. I kinda doubt it's the loose paper or flimsy plastic sleeve, though.
  5. Here's what I sent to JoeBob: Hello, I called and spoke to Joseph a couple minutes ago about the JP springs I received yesterday, and he requested I send a picture of what I was talking about. I have attached it. When I get home I will also take a picture of the packing slip and packer's initials as requested. I understand that these bends, especially the rifle spring, may not be dramatic in nature. However, I am a little bummed about oredering a premium product designed to reduce buffer noise arriving like this. I have to imagine that a spring now predisposed to this shape is more apt to rub and scrape inside a buffer tube more than a straight spring. Thanks for you consideration, and I'll follow up with the picture of the packing slip later tonight. Thanks!
  6. I called JoeBob and spoke to Joseph. Not exactly the model example of a customer service rep, but whatevs. (I maybe a tough critic, having been in customer facing roles pretty much all but a couple years of my working life) and he requested a picture of what I was talking about, which I sent. He said "we send thousands a day and none have ever taken a set." Mk. He also requested a pic of the packing slip so they can see who packed it. I will send that when I get home.
  7. That was the best 5 minutes of the interweb. Ever.
  8. Wow! Lightning fast response from JP! Here's my message: And within the hour, his response: While I appreciate the fast response, I am still a little fuzzy with the "pretty sure they will straighten themselves out" statement. If he didn't say "pretty sure" I would just put it to bed. BUT... the fact that the manager of JP springs said he would personally use them... maybe I should just hush and go on. I'll ponder for a bit and discuss with a gun buddy at work, and keep reading what you guys share. Thanks!
  9. I'm leaning towards that. I'm going to give JP a couple days to respond just to see what they say, but I'm pretty disappointed in the situation as of now.
  10. Yea. And this is the first time I've spent a little more on fancier bits because I want something nicer. My previous builds have pretty much been milspec budget stuff with the exception of triggers, rails, and a lil magpul magic. This time I'm picking specific safety selectors, mag release, forward assist, blah blah blah. It's no 11 Trillion dollar Noveske build, but it's something I'm excited about.
  11. Great idea, thanks! I just sent off that pic to JP for their advice. :-)
  12. Sos I wanted to put some nicer bits in a couple builds I'm workingon and have heard good things about the enhanced polished JP springs buffer springs. I ordered a couple from JoeBobOutfitters along with some other parts. I expected to get about a foot long box in the mail with my parts enclosed. Nope. Everything showed up in the smalles size USPS Flatrate box. You know the one like 6-7" tall. The buffer springs were not compressed and put in the box, rather coiled around like spaghetti. When I pulled them out they mostly straightened out, but here is a picture taken an hour after I set them out: I understand that once installed in the buffer tube the springs will be compressed and forced into a straight tube, but I gotta be honest, this bugs me. Is there any reason I should be bugged about this, or is this completely normal and not a big deal? I'm a bit miffed because I feel like I paid 5x the price of a regular spring because I wanted something premium and more quiet... can't imagine a bent spring will cause less noise scraping around inside a buffer tube. :/ I look forward to your advise or chastisement. :-D
  13. A flared magwell helps create more of a funnel to aid in mag insertion in stressful/high speed situations. It's pretty much a standard feature on any race/competition gun to help reduce fumbling, etc.
  14. Challenge accepted, lol! So I can get the barrel in upside down on both an M&P Pro 5" gun and a Shield. The Pro But the rsa won't go in And Shield, same thing Since I couldn't get the springs in, I didn't bother trying to put the slide on the guns like this. It also seemed like the top (now bottom) and the chamber block mah have been too tall to allow the slide to go on with the barrel flipped. Regardless, that was a fun waste of 5 mins. :-)
  15. I've got a brand new pistol grip for a Mossberg 500, comes with mounting hardware. It's still in the factory baggie, as delivered with my 500 Persuader. I don't hate myself enough to actually use the thing, but maybe one of you massochists are into that kind of thing! Anywho, first "I'll take it" gets it. If you're close to Smyrna, it'd be great to put another face with a screen name and meet in person. If not, PM me your address and I'll send it on.
  16. Just for fun, when I get home tonight I'm going to try and see if it's even possible to put a barrel in upside down in my M&Ps. :-) I'm just curious at this point. Jenny, I'm glad you got it fixed!
  17. I'll take it. Will send PM after church, and will scrounge up some goodies to offer later tonight. :-)
  18. From what I have seen, the Remington 1911s have been the only bright spot in the terrible titan that is Freedom Group. Every one I have handled has been well built and imho, a great value. I expect this would be as well. Now, the re-re-released R1... YUCK!
  19. I'm a big fan of the Diamondback stuff from Vortex. There are a few options in the $200ish range there. I have a 2-7, 3-9, 4-12, and 4-16 HP. All are great.
  20. I use steel all the time in my ARs with zero problems. (Lacquer coated, usually) However, years ago I had SERIOUS problems with the one and only (half)box of steel pistol ammo I ever bought. It was Wolf and the gun was a Sigma. Joke all you want, terrible trigger, but a reliable gun... until Tula. I got through five or six rounds when the gun locked up so tight I had to beat it open by kinda punching/pushing the slide into the edge of a table to get the slide back. The case was STUCK in the chamber. I was fighting to get the extractor over the case rim. I then had to beat the case out with a dowel. I figured it was a fluke, so went back to shooting.... when after a few more rounds it happened again! Same process. I was young and dumb enough to fall for the trick a third time. I finally had enough. I was out in the sticks, and these folks had their trash pile burning. I did what any reasonable person would do and threw the rest in the fire... from pretty far away. It was fun, just some pops. Soon after this event, the extractor on the gun broke and Smith repaired it. I still blame that steel case ammo and the mistreatment I had to put the gun through to get the cases out. Anyways, back to the ammo recommendation from the clerk. I share just because I've personally had a bad experience with steel ammo in the past, and I'm not so quick to dismiss the store clerk. I've been in that position. I doubt she is going to be able to afford a nice dinner out or a new pair of shoes if someone buys a $25 box of ammo versus a $21 box of ammo. I doubt his ammo choice affected her in any meaningful way. She very may well have been sharing a past event that she thought may help the customer.
  21. I am a reloader. I have never had a KB of any sort from MY ammo. However, I DID have a round of Ultramax .223 splode my very first AR about 9 years ago. Split the upper from front to back, blew the mag out of the gun and blew the bottom out of the mag. Thankfully I was not hurt, but the rifle was toast. The dudes at On Target found my dust cover a few weeks later down at the far end of the range. I'll shoot my reloads, but not someone else's.
  22. Guilty. :-( And I just filled another storage bin with AR mags yesterday. :-D
