  1. I'm glad I'm not the only one! Yes, those impromptu range trips'll catch you by surprise! Now I have enough of each type that I'm just packing 9mm handguns, an AR, and AR pistol both in 5.56/.223. Defensive stuff in the mags, and a few boxes of plinking stuff in case the new range is open in wifey's hometown.
  2. ...you spend more time figuring out which guns to pack for a trip than you do your clothes, etc? I packed my suitcase of clothes in about 7 minutes yesterday, and it only took that long because I had to match up some socks from the laundry hamper. I've spent about twenty minutes tonight deciding on which guns and ammo to bring, and how/where to pack them all.
  3. No contest. Can't stand Bass Pro and their thievery,er... high prices. Selection is nice, but not at that cost. Every year or so I stop at the Opry Mills store, look around for awhile, and leave with empty hands. Feels like they should rename themselves "Retail Plus", after their pricing structure. I feel the same about Gander Mountain. I've enjoyed Cabela's every time, and stop in the Bowling Green store any time we're going to see the wifey's fam in Central KY. Fair ammo and reloading prices, and some great accessories I don't see elsewhere. They usually end up stealing a couple hundred bucks from me, but I don't mind. I'm super bummed about the Bass Pro buyout, as well.
  4. They're probably scattered around the floor of a trailer, or underneath a beltway somewhere in a hub, or maybe in a pile at end end of a sorting chute somewhere. That's where I saw most boxes get torn open. If a box was already compromised (crushed corners, water damage) those chutes did an excellent job of filling up and destroying weak boxes. The repack thing is super common, and honestly nothing to get all jacked up about. Can you imagine the expense and time involved if, every time a box was damaged in shipping they stopped all plant movement, tracked down the receiver and/or shipper, called them, told them what happened, asked them how they felt about it, and how they would like the carrier to proceed? Yikes.
  5. Starting to wonder if you simply have my gun history confused with someone else, haha! Carry on, my wayward son.
  6. K, NOW you're just trying be a jerk, aren't you?
  7. Hahahaha!!! I heard that! I'm fighting the 1911 bug because I don't wanna buy a bunch of 45 stuff... but I know it's going to happen sooner or later anyways, and have a brass bucket started for when that day arrives. And I have the dies. And maybe a box or two of projectiles. But that's all, I swear. Mostly.
  8. And what brand were those wheelguns? I didn't have an M&P back then 'cuz money. Now I have 6 M&Ps, and more S&Ws, too.
  9. Packed mine up tonight. Hoping to persuade wifey into taking it to the post office for me Monday... have a crazy week coming up!
  10. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2016/12/17/smith-wesson-mp-m2-0/ I figured as the resident Smith & Wesson fanboy I should post this up. I'm curious, but honestly it doesn't seem to be much different, just a little slicked up and smoothed out. They talk about a new trigger group, and that's good news. They have an amazing trigger in the Performance Center Shield. If the regular M&Ps get the same treatment, I may go ahead and grab a new one or two. I hope they don't do something stupid like change up the mags so they aren't compatible with the current guns. That would severely hack me off, cuz I haz bunches already. Though I've been wanting something completely new and different from S&W, I can understand this. I think if it comes with a good... and CONSISTENT trigger that may win over some folks who maybe aren't diehard Glock or XD types. And yes, I know Apex exists (and they're moving out of California to a shop 12 times larger! Good on 'em!) but not everyone wants to have to buy another $100 in parts to get a good trigger. I hope this will help reduce the financial effect to S&W of softening demand for guns in general as the election and Christmas rush die down.
  11. Yep. Thankfully I have a few, but missing is a nice 686. I had a 6" pre-lock 686 years ago but sold it when time were hard. It's the only gun I really miss from back then. I have a "gotta get" list, and I finally crossed the Beretta M9A1 off a few weeks ago... love that thing! Next up is either a 1911 or CZ SP01. Hope you find yours soon!
  12. My thoughts as well. I dunno... this whole post has a whole lotta "wwwhaaaaaaaa?!?!!!??" going on. What did the dude say is wrong with it? The fact that he picked some terrible grips and has a screw loose? (Hahaha! I make joke!)
  13. New Beretta M9A1 and Wilson Combat steel guide rod, recoil spring, and 14lb hammer spring. Shoots like a laser beam and I am super happy with it.
  14. It's interesting to read the market news on this. A similiar company, Vista Outdoors (ticker VISTO) who own Savage and a bunch of ammo companies, among others, has already done this. Whereas Ruger and Smith took a 20% hit in valuation after the election, Vista remained pretty much untouched, even though they are arguably subject to nearly identical market and political forces. Many think that's because they don't have a gun brand for a name, and I have to agree. The market is not always (ever?) logical. S&W would probably like to avoid all of that hysteria as well.
  15. Right on. With my Witness Elite Match the only thing that WASN'T shooting cloverleafs was that Armscor stuff in the white and yellow box. I'm just now getting into loading for it and am getting very close to published velocities with Power Pistol and Longshot. Still working on finding the top. :-)
  16. I'm not going to rehash all this 10/40 stuff all over again, just gunna share that of the standard factory ammo you can get everywhere Sig's seems to be the best, touting over 600lb ft of energy. It's no Underwood or handload, but it's better than most.
  17. I'm the biggest pansy ever. I've seen that story all over FB, etc, and I can't even bear to read it. I get the gist of it, and that's already too much. Prayers for his family.
  18. Those movies are great! I get multiple stints of 2-3 hours uninterrupted at the reloading press while she's snuggled up in her blankets watching that crap. Winter is when I load up all the ammo I shoot all summer! It worked out just perfect this year... shot the last of my plinking .40 and 44mag about a month ago... right around when I started loading again for the fall/winter. :-)
  19. Yea, I don't see those as "one or the other", but "both." Mine are all AR platform, but I love my 308. It just does stuff a 5.56 can't. My ar15s do stuff my ar10 can't... mainly shoot quite a bit for a reasonable cost and carry a lotta ammo without needing a pack mule! We all know (and you should, especially) that you can get a decent bare bones AR under 5 bills these days. Working at a gun shop, you oughtta be able to shave some more off of that pretty easily. Or do what anyone else working at an LGS does... beat up the next guy trading one in pretty good and then buy it yourself once he leaves! ;-)
  20. Over 100 boxes of 325rd Federal Auto Match for $19ea at Academy in Smyrna last week. Plenty of CCI Standard Velocity for $4/50, and tons of Aguila for $4-5 box depending on type.
  21. Yes, the Mavericks are great inexpensive shotguns. the field model is $189 at Academy, and $10 more for the 18.5" defense model.
  22. No chance you would be happy with a regular flat top and some flip up iron sights? then you still have the option of a red dot or reflex sight if you wanted.
  23. Doubt you'll find that configuration ready-made very easily. I couldn't tell from your profile where you are. I'm in Smyrna and would be happy to help you put your upper together if you get the pieces you want. I have all the tools, etc.
