  1. Thank you. :-) Yea... this won't be for sale any time soon. ;-) It's a great little gun and I have a short review posted in the handgun forum. It's pricier than some other options, but I feel the design and execution are definitely worth the extra change. :-)
  2. And ammo. Lots of ammo. 22lr, 22 mag, 7.62x54r, 223, and some clearance blazer aluminum 9mm so I don't feel bad about losing casings when I shoot outdoors. :-)
  3. I'm biased, of course, but it really is a great little gun. It's kinda like when Sig came out with the Mosquito... except this one works! I felt the Mosquito was more like a centerfire pistol in handling, quality, etc, and was very close to getting one... until I kept reading about so many folks having bad experiences with them. :/ I never shot the Umarex full size M&P, but handled a few. They never felt quite right... like a BB gun or something. Mebbe cuz Umarex makes like a bazillion BB guns? :-D Anywho, I say go ahead and gitchoo one. I think you'll be very happy with it!
  4. Wifey got me an early birthday present, an M&P22 Compact! This is the newer, smaller, in-house designed M&P22, not the full size made by Umarex a few years ago. This is the suppressor ready model with the adapter included. I don't have a can yet, but it's on the list! I'm already an M&P fan, and this fits in the family just perfectly. It feels very much like my PC Shield, just a smidge bigger. The trigger is nice and crisp, if a touch heavy... feels like about 6-7lbs. You've got the normal takeup which is smooth and light, then it stacks, and then a clean and consistent break. Sights are your average 3 dot configuration, fully adjustable rear. The sights on mine were dead on out of the box. A nice, small cluster right in the bullseye with my first magazine through the gun. Yesterday our church had "Bullets and BBQ", a get together of about 30 people at one member's farm for shootin' and grillin'. It was my first time shooting the M&P, and it was a trial by fire! I didn't even have a chance to clean the gun first, having just gotten it. I used it for all the new shooters. We had about a dozen people who had never shot a gun before, and they all started with the little M&P. Not a single hiccup in over 600 rounds of cheap American Eagle, Aguila, and Federal bulk pack ammo. This is my third semi-auto .22, and the first to accomplish this feat of wonder! I had an SR22 that I had for a few weeks that never made it through a single magazine without an ftf or fte (multiple cleanings, multiple ammo types) and an old first gen Walther P22 that was pretty good, but would usually choke 2-3 times in a range trip. This little Smith impresses the heck out of me. Everything about it exudes high quality. All the controls feel firm and accurate. From the actuation of the ambi-safety, the release of the slide stop, the mag release, trigger, and even down to the heft and quality of the 2 included magazines, this is an incredibly well-done little pistol. It doesn't feel like a .22... doesn't seem like a "starter gun", which is why it's such a great starter gun! Everyone who shot it loved it, even the more experienced firearm enthusiasts who were there. I generally don't like safeties on my plastic guns, but for the role this gun plays for me, it's perfect. When teaching a 9 year old who has never held a gun how to shoot, it's nice to keep that safety on until they're on target and ready to squeeze the trigger! Anywho, I'm please as punch with it. If any of you out there are in the market for a plinker (and I don't wanna hear the whining about 22 ammo... it's available now. Not for two cents a round, but for 6 and 7. Your excuse is invalid!) or are maybe a little unhappy with the function/reliability of your current 22, I highly recommend you check out the M&P 22 Compact! My buddy Jonathan approves!
  5. Ditto Murg's experiences here... except I've never built a gun over $800 or so. Cheapest was right at 410 and some pennies. I just built (except for the trigger, still deciding) a varmint gun with an 18" stainless fluted bull barrel and 17" free float rail. Depending on what I choose for the trigger it'll be $775-850 total. For my wife I built a simple, pencil barrel 16" gun. I chose some dressier bits and custom parts instead of a milspec lookin thing, and it came in under $600. Someone (I forgot what shop... saw it on slickguns.com/net/biz/tv/erwhatever) was selling Anderson lowers for $42. I jumped on a similar deal a couple years ago and got 5. One low shipping price, and my ffl charged me one transfer fee for all 5. The key for me to build cheaply is to first know what I want. For rails, etc, I had a few in mind, and just for the right deal on one to pop up and snag it. The only thing I had a hard time with recently was finding decently priced stripped uppers. Dang Primary Arms had the best price on Andersons awhile back but would only let you buy one. Thankfully, shipping was only $3.xx, so I bought one and my neighbor got another for me. Still ended up about $14 less for the pair than buying from AIM, who was the only other place that had them at the time.
  6. Academy in Smyrna has had 500rd packs of .22 under 6 cents around for about two or three weeks straight now. I check 2-3 times a week. I hate Remington so I don't buy it, but I grab a couple-three of the 325rd Federal AutoMatch every time I see it. I've probably gotten over a dozen boxes in the last month. They used to be $17.99 but went to $18.99 a few weeks ago. What I've found my 10/22 likes best for cheap stuff is CCI Blazer. The 50 rd packs are 2.49 when they have them, but I haven't seen any in months. That's why I keep looking.

  8. I dunno... hopefully something good this time? The American pistol seems like one giant "Meh." I don't personally know a single person that bought one, and I only remember reading that a couple folks here bought one. For the sake of American manufacturing, I hope they hit a home run with whatever it is. My guess, though, is some twist on an existing long gun. Maybe a tweak on the Ruger Precision rifles? Those seem to be doing pretty well for them. I hope it's not just a compact American pistol.
  9. Got that, I wanna know what the next level, "Super-Duper" requirement is. :-)
  10. I'm not even a Glock fan and I vote 19. If 2 extra rounds get you excited, use G17 mags. I prefer M&Ps and in the winter I can often be found carrying an M&P compact with a full size mag and grip adapter if I feel like carrying more ammo than my Shield will hold.
  11. So what is the number required for "Super-duper" gun owner? How many do I need to unlock the next achievement level?!
  12. I went out to Mulberry, TN yesterday with my pastor and his son for some dove hunting. Not a lot of birds moving yesterday, but it was beatiful out and we had a good time. I only got one, my pastor and his sone each got two. The gun is a Yildiz A71 semi auto. That's the Academy house brand. I just got it last week and this was my first time shooting it. It ran perfectly and I really like it. It's a keeper, imho. Anyone else have some field reports to share?
  13. Haha! I watched that three times through yesterday amd posted to my FB, lol! Dudes are awesome! That drummer is the bizness!
  14. Academy in Smyrna had a lot of stuff Tuesday. I bought 500 MiniMag HPs at $7.99/100... at least 60 boxes left at that point. They also had 500rd boxes of Remington Thunderduds for under $30, and 325rd Fed automatch for $18 or so. Lots of 50rd packs of other brands, but nothing worth writing home about. I still haven't seen 22 at a wally in antioch/smyrna, but I haven't checked recently either.
  15. Me too! I gave the dealership thousands for the car... not to be their driving advertisement. I make that part of the deal when I buy a car. If there is any dealer sticker/emblem on the vehicle, it must be removed before I pay for it.
  16. Yep. The whole thing is maple. It was part of the raw power series from about 8 years ago or so. It's heasver than many LPs I've held, and right between the weight of the desert burst 08 Standard and that teal prototype in the picture. I put in the pickup set and white speed knobs from the Buckethead signature SG, and put locking grover keystones on there. A lot of folks hate the white accents. I love it. My only regret was not bugging Sherry in plastics to cut me a white pickguard for it.
  17. And I'm a bass player too, and dabble in guitar as well. Here's some of the collection
  18. --- most of first paragraph redacted. I realized after reading the responses while NOT doing a dozen other things that I believe I missed the sarcasm font on a couple responses. My apologies!--- Disagree with their choice in musical direction versus your personal taste, cool. I don't really like the Beatles very much. There. I said it, haha! More than the fact that I am a big fan of all their music (seriously... all of their music. Even St Anger has grown on me through the years!) I am SO over this election and these absolute turdsacks of candidates we have left at the bottom of the trash pile. Johnson too. And that's hard for me to say. I truly believe one has to be mentally ill to enthusiastically support any current candidate. Please note I said ENTHUSIASTICALLY SUPPORT. I understand the "well, this one's less spawn-of-satan-pure-evil than the other" argument. I don't begrudge anyone for feeling that way. I'm feeling just about hopeless with politics right now. This shirt feels like all I can do. Even more than how much I love Metallica, I dislike what's going on and this is my statement of dissent, er whatever.
  19. I grew up on the edge of a turrrrubble (said in my best Charles Barkley) neighborhood in Miami, FL. I spent my entire life learning how to not make myself or my belongings a target. Dad was always chastising us to keep things low key. Keep everything worth anything out of sight. We had zero bumper stickers of any kind across all of our vehicles. The only thing we ever upgraded were the wheels on Dad's first mid-life crisis car. We were relatively free of theft over the years... while we were on vacation in Boston some local hoods stole two wheels off Dad's week old Avalanche. They only got two because whenever we went out of town Dad would park the cars super close together and with the driver's doors on the inside so it was just one more hurdle to a thief. Saved him two wheels, anyway. :/
  20. For regular radio stations, there is iheartradio. Free. I use spotify. Freakin' love it. I save my data for netflix and download most albums while I'm home on wifi. I do stream some, but not a ton. Put a 128 gig sd card in the phone so I can download all my tunes is the highest quality format I can.
  21. I'll echo the blanket and water bottle. I keep two space blankets (the foil things) a bottle of water, and two of those 400 calorie long-term storage energy bars. In my kit. Also, I would put in a pair of split-leather work gloves, even if it's just for changing to a spare tire while in your Sunday best. The only time I've ever had to change a tire (of mine... changed lots for other folks) was on the way to church on a Sunday morning. I was wearing light colored khakis and a baby blue shirt. Sure was glad I had those gloves!
  22. What kind of hanguard are you putting on the gun? Smooth round? If so, how bout just an angled red dot? Only one mount required. http://shop.opticsplanet.com/vortex-venom-red-dot-top-load-sight.html?_iv_code=VX-RD-VMD-3103&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=plusbox-beta&gclid=Cj0KEQjwxqS-BRDRgPLp0q2t0IUBEiQAgfMXRGnTCPr1Cx58eLHT5gTjAp2WN40hvVTNVrsKgzEnzUUaAjbx8P8HAQ
