  1. You do realize that "window" is not open to allow crap in right? It has a clear PLASTIC window.
  2. There is another manufacturer getting ready to release a aluminum "milspec" magazine for the 300 Blackout. I suspect a lot of new products will hit the market shortly after SHOT.
  3. This is a picture of MY gun. I know it did not have more than 3K rounds though it. You can see the barrel liner being exposed.
  4. PacLite uppers for Rugers will eventually fail. The soft, aluminum breech face will be beaten so bad the liner will end up sticking out causing all kinds of problems. I sent one back after a short time because of it. They replaced it no questions asked but they are not durable enough for regular use.
  5. At anything beyond probably 10 yards a stack of loose washers is probably less lethal. I have shot them before and they just go all over the place and make all kinds of noise as they do, definitely not even close to being ideal They are definitely worse than any wax slug I have ever shot. If I want to shoot slugs I buy the CHEAP Federal bulk pack. Federal is the easiest to get a slug into the case and have it stay. The rest either have wads that prevent the use of a slug or the slug just drops out. I would cut the tops off the cheap .25 shot shells and pour the lead into my pot. I melt the shot down then use the lead to make slugs. I would pull the wad out far enough so the slug will kind of get locked in by the wad when you push it back in. I made a crimping tool to round over the edge of the case to hold the slug in place. I don't believe most matches you are going to find are shock sensitive like a primer needs to be. Children's caps, like in the 8 round rings, are shock sensitive and they do work but nothing will be as reliable as a real primer. For taking small game it is hard to beat a pellet rifle. You can make a mold that you can swage pellets out of using a hammer or vice. Not quick but it works. And in a end of times situation nothing says a human is around like a gunshot so being quiet is imperative to survival. I consider silencers a must have for when society collapses. If the HPA passes every gun I own will have a silencer.
  6. They are pretty inconsistent as far as accuracy. They will hit a silouette at 15 yards. They wouldnt hit within 10' at 100.
  7. For pricing after things settle down all you have to do is look overseas. A budget silencer is under $50 and top of the line silencers are under $500. Can you imagine if China can import them? You will see 22 silencers for under $40. Take a look to see how low they will probably go. http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Moderators-for-sale/A/Accessories I am excited to hopefully be able to try some of the unique designs I have read about that people in other countries are coming up with. Silencers, for the most part, are the same as they were 100 years ago but I believe once a person can legally make them without registration we will see some pretty big advancements in the industry pretty quickly. They will become more disposable and when that happens the prices will start to really drop. Imagine a plastic 22 can that you could buy for $10. At that price who cares if it falls apart after 500 rounds. And if I were a betting person I bet a tube made out of plastic or polymer will be quieter than one made out of steel, titanium and maybe even aluminum. One can use less durable materials to keep costs down. And something else, the materials actually used to make the baffles have an impact on sound suppression. I can hear a difference when I add a cover to my 30 caliber can and that is because it uses a .035" tube. So without the cover you hear a "tink" from the gasses hitting the thin outer tube. So I imagine once we are able to build them for testing we will see some other materials that will make them even more quieter.
  8. You can get ANSI rated glasses at Walmart as well. I too am looking for a good optometrist who can work magic. I would like to have some made specifically for shooting.
  9. You can also open up the shot shell and pour the pellets out. Then heat them up with some candle wax and pour it back in. Makes a wax slug that falls apart as soon as it hits something. A few on here have seen me do it at the range. I shot a cardboard box and had a 3/4" hole on one side and a much bigger hole on the other. It doesn't work to just pour wax over the shot, it cools too quickly. Read up on cut shells as well, they work too but if they fall apart and you try to unload the gun it will lock it up with the smaller shot. I know a guy who would reload primers using child's caps. He would pry out the anvil then use a flattened nail to iron out the primer cup. He would then put the child's cap inside primer with the anvil. He would then slowly seat the primer. He said it worked most of the time but not all of the time. Availability of reloading components will also come into play. If you have that weird, oddball caliber eventually you will run out of brass to reload. Pick the most common caliber in your area. If you live in a very rural area it might better serve you to have a 30-30 or 30-06 because a lot of houses have one of those sitting in a corner with a box of ammunition. And in case anyone doesn't know they make solid brass shot shells. In a end of the world scenario they would last a lot longer.
  10. I have fired plenty of autos over my lifetime and I find shooting guns with silencers so much more enjoyable, especially my single shots. There is something magical about slinging a piece of lead, you can't hear, at a steel plate a few hundred yards away. Its like having the most accurate slingshot because that is about how quiet it is when you load rounds that don't have to cycle an AR.
  11. Hate to hear it, loosing someone who always loves you in return is a hard pill to swallow. We lost Gus a few months back and our lives will never be the same without that big brute running around.
  12. I can guarantee the even the most green private has had more time on a trigger, as well as firearm safety beaten into them, than a typical seasoned LE officer. Most LE only pull the trigger on their guns when they are required to and that is normally once a year to keep their POST certifications. Every member of the Army is required to qualify with their weapons at least every six months. And in between those qualifications most spend even more time on the range increasing their skill set. And as anyone who has been in the military can attest safety is beaten into your head, then beaten again and then to make sure you heard it before they say it again. So if I were to pick who could get a HCP without the mandatory training it would be a member of our military over LE. Something else, this covers those who are 18-20 which means worst case scenario they are two years since their last training but probably a lot less. For LE who left the job that could be a lot longer and as time goes on people tend to forget things. I have friends who are deep into their 60's who were LE in their 20's. There is no way in hell those friends have the same knowledge or skills as someone who has been out of the military for two years or less. And finally, considering most enlistments are more than two years that means the <20 year old was forced out. And if they have an honorable discharge it means they were likely separated for injuries which right now means it was likely the result of being in combat. And again, if I had to pick someone who might have to protect my family or I it would be a recently separated combat veteran over a 50 year old who was in LE 25 years earlier.
  13. I bet the sanctions WE imposed on Russia has forced them to choose between the US and mother Russia. Kalashnikov is still a Russian weapons manufacturer so perhaps the Russian government told them to quit producing guns for the US market, or else.
  14. If you have an Iphone get Ballistic AE, worth every single penny. It is $20 but allows you to do some amazing stuff. I was making 350 yard first round hits using subsonic 22lr and my Iphone. It lets you zero and input your zero conditions then as the conditions change it will automatically change with the conditions. You hit a icon in the app and it polls local cell towers to determine you location then it gathers all data that affects bullet flight then adjusts accordingly. It takes into account the earth's rotation, the curve of the bullet flight based on whether you have right or left twist barrel as well as having pretty much every factory load as well as every bullet available for use.
  15. The problem with ANY legislation that limits ANYTHING by use of criteria being met is the criteria will no doubt change once it is made into law. Obamacare is a prime example. There are a lot more pages now than when it was passed and all those additions were added without another vote. Do you think all those extra pages gave us more or less freedom? Say a law gets passed saying that those suffering from A, B or C will be the only ones limited. Everyone else rejoices at the passage of that law thinking it only affects those suffering from A, B or C. Then, over time, a few more conditions are added to the criteria and before you know it the criteria has changed so much that it affects a lot more people than when it was originally passed into law. But after a while the criteria for determining who is mentally defective can, and does, change over time. If you think legislation aimed at those with mental conditions will never affect you think about this. I have seen interviews and read articles by people responsible for establishing what the criteria will be for determining whether someone is "mentally defective" or not. Those doctors have overwhelmingly said that the urge to own a dangerous item, such as a gun, is a mental condition. They have even went on to say that the urge to own a dangerous gun is reason enough to keep them from owning one. So even though the mentally defective are the only ones affected right now I do not believe for a second that it will stop there. You can be adjudicated as mentally defective because of the medication you take, nothing else, and there is a push to do it on a federal level. And do you think that list of medications will remain the same? Never in a million years will that list of medications remain the same. They will alter that list of medications so they can go after certain groups. Adderall is often prescribed to service members suffering from PTSD and that is one of the medications currently being used to limit gun ownership in some states. Here is a list of medication used to take guns away from those in New York. Imagine if this list were to be used to limit on a national level. I have personally be prescribed Ambien before to help me sleep, took it once and I was found out laying in my yard a sleep so I never took it again. I have been prescribed Valium because I am very allergic to IVP dye and Valium keeps me from dying when the doctors MUST use IVP dye. 16. I could make you a bunch of primed cases or a couple with the primer pockets opened up. Either way the offer is there.
  17. Maverick 88 shotgun in 12 gauge. Identical to a Mossberg 500 except the safety is on the trigger guard, a better place, and it is only $200 new. Shotguns are pretty versatile because of the different types of ammunition that can be found EVERYWHERE. They are also easy to maintain and use. If I wanted to stand up a group of people that is what I would buy them. It is also less likely to be outlawed by any type of gun grab legislation. Shotguns are pretty low powered cartridges so you could easily load them using black powder.
  18. Hey Mac, if you want a bunch of primed cases stop by sometime. I can manage to put together a fair amount from brass I will never get to. Or, if you want I can slightly enlarge the primer pocket of one case so you can seat the primer with your fingers.
  19. I can remember editing the parameters and upping my internet speeds by a whopping 50%, that took me from 4kbps to 6 kbps. I remember starting a 1 meg downloads at night so it would be done in the morning, unless someone called then you had to wait another night. I thought I was in high cotton with I got my first US Robotics 33.6 modem, invited friends over to see the awesome speeds I was getting.
  20. For things that need oil, not grease, I use a 50/50 mix of 30 weight synthetic and automatic transmission fluid. If I want a little more cleaning action I add 10% of injector cleaner into the mixture. For things that need grease I use the molybendum disulfide grease from Walmart. It is less than $5 and lasts forever.
  21. Depends on the seller. If I am selling to someone I do not know I ask two questions, "Are you a citizen of Tennessee?" and "Are you prohibited from owning a firearm?". If they answer correctly I take their cash and hand them a gun. If a seller wants me to fill out a form with all kinds of personal information I walk.
  22. Man I really miss Mexico sometimes. Most people only see the border region and think that is what all of Mexico is like but once you get a bit inland the country is a totally different country.
