lol I normally dislike Rush --- he is kind of a jerk and annoying --- but today his comment was priceless. He said Clint's chair put up a better debate than the real O vs Mitt. The GOP also has a priceless commercial out already with Obama looking like an ashamed schoolboy as Mitt scores points. This stuff is better than average.

All combustion creates H2O as a byproduct. The very act of using it can make the acid (with unburnt residue if any) which should not be left to sit in your firearm for months on end. It is, however, as you noted, extremely mild and slow acting. Good to know about the substitutes though, I did not know they were also corrosive. You can tell I have not shot a lot of it, was young and someone else always cleaned up any mess. Making your own would be an interesting hobby, but agreed, you would want to spend a lot of time at it before you even thought about putting it into your guns. I was half kidding.

I could play, but as another said, a guide/budget would be nice. Clearly need a new date though, or another round later on if this one happened.

remember that the real stuff will make sulfuric acid and you need to clean up after it. The substitutes do not. You can make the real stuff pretty easily. 100 parts saltpeter (KNO3) + 18 parts coal + 16 parts sulfur (traditional) 100 parts saltpeter + 24 parts coal (no sulfur)

$400 average, supposedly $1000+ for mint but I am not seeing any that actually SOLD for that much.

it must have been bad for hope & change part 4. Even a lib at time said obama was awful.

their show, their rules. They require you to remove your gun, unload it, and let them manhandle it with tie wraps at most shows, that is not legally necessary either. You can still stand outside the show to trade, or set up shop in your car and sell out of the trunk in the parking lot. With your loaded weapon on you. If you do not want to deal with the stupid rules at gun shows, don't.

Fake Military Documents, Weapons Found in Abandoned Pickup
Jonnin replied to QuietDan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
of course information is missing, the police as SOP do not tell all they know for a lot of great reasons. Telling all is a great way to bork up an investigation AND taint any potential jurors in the area. -
It was just for the humor. I do not normally correct people but that one... required it.

Lol I would not recommend a .44 in a lightweight. Even if we pretend that lightweight (?nonsteel?) frames are durable enough, the recoil is going to be, on a scale of 1-10, about a 13. One of my online friends has a snubbie 44 in steel that is a beast, I can barely handle one cylinder's worth. Good carry gun maybe, but OW!

This is a multivariable equation that is very difficult to eyeball. You have the energy (effectively, damage done on impact), momentum (effectively, the difficulty in making it change directions, or bounce off), the relative hardness, thickness of the target, the bullet material's tendency to break/splat/frag vs staying together, and more. All these and more have to be examined to understand the big picture. I kid you not it would take me a solid month to model the problem. You are looking for a short answer but its going to be a combination many things presented in a 3+ column table (bullet 1, bullet 2, and minimum to penetrate the plate). Many combinations of the variables will cut thru the plate. Many combinations will not. You can make the bullet out of steel and shoot it a 500 fps and it may not. You can make the bullet out of wood and push it to 20k fps and it might. Its the "package" that does it, not any one or 2 individual things. It could even be just the angle of impact, or the shape of the bullets, or whether that area on the plate had been hit before!

hah last time that happened, all i noticed were the 100000000 little guys in the tank, no time to check their gender. Those things can really go at it. The filtration system probably made for a 90% mortality rate and we still gave the fish store about 75 of them.

it does not have to be harder than steel to blow a hole in it. Clearly ---- lead cuts clean thru steel if the steel is thin enough. Copper is hard enough as well: you need a thicker plate when using a harder ammo. Also, not sure about the load data, but the copper may be moving much faster with a lighter slug (???) so that has an effect as well. Basically, there is a lot more to the physics than just the relative hardness of the materials. If hardness were all that matters, lead would not be used, it is softer than most targets (including wood). I am not conviced that copper would shatter. It is harder than lead, but not brittle at all. I have no idea, but it could just as easily not shatter (?). I would have to do more work to figure this out than I feel like right this moment. I may look into it later.

yea me too, I must have been thinking about a different movie... pigs can be pretty mean. They can also be sweet and friendly. Smarter than people think, and pretty close to a dog really ..... could easily have killed him.

New Shooter to TGO (from Lebanon, TN)
Jonnin replied to TexasAggie's topic in New Member Introductions
Welcome to TGO! Like the walther design much? -
Nonsense. He did not sign a ban on semi automatic rifles, because "During the Romney Administration, no anti-Second Amendment or anti-sportsmen legislation made its way to the Governor's desk." There you have it folks, the ban never happened, he never signed it, and he certainly never said anything like “These guns are not made for recreation or self-defense. They are instruments of destruction with the sole purpose of hunting down and killing people.†Maybe he learned from his mistake. We can hope. But to claim it did not happen, that is garbage.

sweet! We kept a salt and fresh (one of each) for many years but let it go last year, gave the few remaining critters to our favorite fish store. I still love them but its a lot of work esp salt.

plumber's tube cutter does a great job if the 223 will fit, not sure, I was cutting bigger cases than this. Makes a really clean cut very fast.

Yes, modern organized crime, which is in a large part gangs though some of the old school remains as well (at times, a tier up from the street gangs but on the same team). Um, think of it like a stock portfolio of crime. Yes, they already "invest" in other things, but if suddenly the drug "stock" crashes, they move those resources to other "market areas". The guys that were selling dope move to selling illegal guns or Identity theft or any of 1000 other things. Sure, someone already is selling those things, but there is room for more players in any of the other illegal goods and services markets of the world. The one thing you can be assured of is they will not just hang it all up and get a day job because dope went legal. Kinda like the legalization of booze; organized crime did not dry up and go away after that, did it?

all that work and they did not fix it to take a decent higcap mag? Pointless. Who wants a taticool gun that fires what, 8 shots?

Seems simple to me. Pay off the house and any other debt, invest the rest (probably not much for most people). After taxes, you are probably looking at 200-300k in hand after all paid up, for play money or the future.

metal under flash often shows what looks like rust. Its an anomaly of the image and optics, and likely, there is no actual rust. I could take a pic of almost any of my guns to show rust that just is not there. I would look, but do not worry, odds are its just an optical illusion.

the guy next to me with a laser messes up my shooting as often as not --- for the same reasons, they wave it around, put the dot on my target, its constantly in motion and all over the place. I have yet to see someone actually do well with a laser sight. They may be super powerful self defense tools but only if the shooter can use it effectively. When it looks like a 6 year old kid with a flashlight is behind the gun, its useless.

Bless you, prayer sent.
