Rather than “window-dressing ‘solutions’ like so-called ‘assault weapons’ bans and magazine capacity restrictions,†the group said in an official statement, the government should promote “mitigation for violence prevention: stronger mental health care, addressing poverty, homelessness and unemployment.†The group has also taken a stand against monetary disincentives to gun ownership, the San Francisco Chronicle noted, including taxes on ammunition. The group said taxes on ammo act as “class barriers,†preventing lower-income individuals from exercising their Second Amendment rights. I would LOVE to see the NRA say this more often. Some of the posts here prove their point: fellow gun owners that are unwelcome by the community forcing them to make their own. I totally understand that -- even though I am a NRA member, I disagree with a LOT of things they say and have done.

While it could be the spring, people shoot very light ammo with very light springs in 1911s and the friction etc is the same for a low powder charge bullet... the slide should slam shut even if the spring, which is rated for full power ammo, is worn some. The light springs & ammo work in any decent 1911, its not some super awesome polish job and fitting either. I suspect it is either dirty or some other issue. I just don't see how a 10 or 11 or whatever pound standard spring can become weaker than the 6-8 pound springs some people use which feed fine?!

Looks to be on par with the sig at a lower cost. And I like the old-school look. I don't need another small 9, but --- its mighty tempting. I don't *need* anything else either so it could be a contender for another toy. Is the grip the ONLY safety??

I really like accurate #5. Its a generic powder that can be forced to work with nearly ANY handgun caliber but it excels at the midrange stuff.... it makes a great 9mm and a solid 45. #2 will go farther and works well in 9 and 45 but a little harder to control as .5 grains of error makes notable inconsistency in a 9 or smaller. 2 works in a 38 but its really the wrong type for a big case. Again, the reason for 2 is to use less per round to stretch your $$ and scarce resource. 5 & 7 use more per shot so cost more and need to buy more of it ... but they are either one better choices for the 38 and 45. I have also had good luck in those cartridges with power pistol. Also, unrelated, but I have saved a lot of $$ making practice ammo for 9 & 38 both using a cheap lead 380 bullet. 500 rounds for 30 bucks or so is hard to beat... I use whatever primers. I can't tell much difference unless trying to produce match grade ammo. Just watch out for magnum vs regular, you CAN tell a difference there with some load data, esp in smaller rounds. Mostly use Winchester, cci, and wolf. But then again, that's 1/2 the brands...

I will plug the MS society as my wife has that.

As a lefty, a lever gun is the way to go IMHO. Lefty bolts are rare, and once you buy it, you are kinda stuck with it if you did not like it. An ar type platform works too, those are easy to operate for a lefty, most of the controls are neutral or easily replaced with neutral/left. I use a 308 lever gun. You are not stuck with 30-30 but that is the most common, just be aware that there are other calibers out there. The 308 is a bit stout, but I handload and can make them do whatever, it does not *have* to fly flat for 800 yards to hunt around here, you can make it perform as a 243 or 30-30 or even less and still do fine at 100 yards, and retain the option of using the full powered ammo if you like it or want to go on a longer range hunt. Trouble is most of the non 30-30 levers are not cheap. Dunno what is out there, I lucked into mine at a very fair price, its a browning.

Its the "assault rifle' approach. They demonize something with misleading and intentionally wrong terminology in hopes of shutting down gun shows entirely. The left is *mightily* offended by gun shows and want them killed off. Remember, to the CA/NY/country-wide anti-gun crowd, the following things are, in THEIR minds, illegal... - buying and selling of guns, period - gun ownership, period - buying a gun or ammo without some form of ID and registration and preferably an entry into a database - buying a gun or ammo without a 200+ day waiting period - individual sales without a fee, tax, and registration and waiting period... - individual sales without background checking, preferably with additional fees and registration - buying of high powered guns, like the .22 LR which is rumored to have a range of OVER A MILE -- says so on the box! - gatherings of malcontents who freely distribute anti leftist propaganda - selling of components to MAKE extra special killer ammo just to name a few! Because of these and dozens of other evils, the left demonizes gun shows by playing the "gun show loophole" card every few months. After all, 98% of the public does not know any better, so why not tell them what is in their best interest, which is, simply, "gun shows r bad".

Why I can't buy ANY of the cool stuff I was told we would all have by the year 2000.

This might be the cheapest option, if that is a concern. The mosin was one example, but if you have gift cards, there are many other inexpensive rifles out there. Should be able to get a very nice one for 300ish, savage perhaps? I dunno what bass pro carries for guns. I dunno if they can order you a barrel or if its just "whats on the shelf".

I do not know the % but I agree with this statement. I know quite a few permit holders who do not carry often, or even at all. I don't understand the mentality, but one woman I know feels good about having the OPTION to carry someday if the mood strikes her, that alone makes her feel "safer" and gives her a rather expensive peace of mind. The bulk of them are gifted with psychic powers so they know when trouble will strike and carry on those occasions.

that might backfire lol. Hey bersa, I got a box of 50 for $80 at the gunshow .... come pick it up...!

1) yes, a 20 will drop a deer, but slugs are not terribly accurate. Give it a try on the range, if you can say in a 5 inch circle consistently (at 50-100 yards), it will do. 2) You can get all kinds of inexpensive suitable guns. A mosin nagant, for example would work though its very heavy to haul thru the woods. There are tons of used rifles at low prices and ruined (for collecting purposes, they shoot fine) military surplus rifles. Some are harder than others to find ammo for, so ability to reload or research ahead of time is important. 3) either of those and literally 2 dozen other calibers will do. One thing to do if you do not reload is to check your local stores a few times to see what calibers are often in stock. 4) No. Having a good scope is a good idea but its like putting a scope on a slingshot: it won't help much. Let me repeat #2 --- a mosin and a modest scope for it can both be had for your budget, with ammo to boot. Might need to set $50 aside to get it drilled to take the mount, though.

We have one of the laser targets, it works pretty well for what it is. Good way to practice a bit at home. Santa was good to me too. I finally got a set of custom grips for my makarov -- well worth the wait. With a left handed thumb rest, it is truly a target pistol now. I also got a scope for my 308 & some brass for it. And a gps for the car, long overdue but they are affordable now. Oh, and some $$ in various forms.

at the moment 22 mag ammo is whatever you can find!! I have seen almost zero for the past year. 22 mag has a bad habit of expanding poorly... I would test whatever you have to see if it expands at all. Try to find some "self defense" ammo that will expand out of a snub nosed pistol, and it has a better chance to work. Maybe the hornady crit defense or crit duty for example... ? Or some sort of soft point? Also, you might try a 50 grain bullet, out of a rifle that might get better penetration than a lighter round.

Nice. Will my credit card company buy me a cell phone?

I would *BET* that the majority of women who carry, IF they have a boyfriend/husband of any seriousness, the man also carries. Many of these households probably include young men who also have a permit or will soon get one -- the 18-25 college kids. Household data is defined funny for tax purposes, and is probably all wrong in terms of number of "families" or "homes". A number of folks may carry without a permit, and many of those are actually more or less honest (see this more with older folks, 50+) All in all I would give you a 10% chance of someone near you having a gun in most of TN. As far as stores go, its a double stupid. They run off 10% of their most honest customers while inviting robbery.

get a pic or go look at the m1 I would say. CZ in like new isn't hard to find, are still fairly cheap. If the M1 is in bad shape or a parts gun, fall back to the cz.

Its probably the best made and longest lasting 22 in the price category. With the fixed barrel, they are accurate enough, to beat the accuracy you need to spend nearly 3 times the money. A little aggravating to deep clean them, and that is the worst thing you can say about one (not including personal taste comments such as grumbling about the balance or grips or whatever). I do not know how many thousands of rounds mine has had, but many. I have probably 15 or 20 of the 500- 600 round bulk boxes empty (well, full of reloading brass or other things now) and I did not keep every box, not even close.

Hmm. FWIW the interest on the current situation is about 800 bucks. So the "bulk" of the existing situation is not interest. If he can sell it for 12k, pay off the loan, that pockets 1300 or so. Buy a new one for 5k and fees, take 1300 out of that... you have 3700 for a replacement. Total money spent, 3700, situation: used car that hopefully will be of good quality but runs the risk of being a money pit. Current situation: Spent 11500 roughly to keep a car that is in a known condition. net result... almost 8k saved. That may indeed be worthwhile but it hinges on 2 conditions --- he has to get the amount asked for on the current car, and he has to find a GOOD inexpensive replacement that does need constant work to keep it running. So if those 2 things can be done, I was wrong. A lot of my earlier thought, though, was that he would NOT get his asking price. All you can do there is try.

the more you make, the more they take. SS and medicare are fixed, I think --- those are probably correct. Or maybe SS varies off income as well, I forget, I am not a tax expert. Fed value could be dead on, close, or totally wrong depending on your total yearly income come tax day. If you make 500K a year, it could be way LOW. If you make 5k a year, it could be way HIGH. Not enough input to say without your personal info (do not post that, I am just saying). Now imagine you had a state income tax too!

I think you have a good money chasing bad here. You bought it new, and if you could sell it today for 10k you would probably be doing well to get that much. At a guess, that is a net loss of your wealth of $5k or more and you end up with no car, no debt, and no money to fund a replacement. Not so good. I can't think anyone in their right mind would buy the car in a way to take over your payments AND give you ANY replacement car funds at all. So, unless you want to be down a car, I think you should keep this one. If you have cash to buy a replacement after this one is gone, well if you dumped that into the loan you would cut a lot of interest and have a newer, better car to keep the current one. Basically, I do not see any way to sell this thing and come out ahead at this time, its the *worst* time to sell a car --- still pretty new, but too used to get your money back out of it. I could be wrong --- run the numbers for yourself --- but I think you are financially better off keeping it at this point.

there has been a top rail for a scope or red dot that goes in the grip for years. http://www.aimtech-mounts.com/SEMI-AUTOS.htm For an example (one of many similar products). Just in case you wanted to hang more stuff on it later :)

More info indicates he was "let go" from the police due to conduct and excessive force. Also it seems the shooter was approached by the victim. But the shooter fled the scene. All in all I think the shooter is going to have a very bad decade. Even though the other guy got out of his car and approached, making it sound like self defense may be a challenge.

I do not shoot skeet much and I stink at it, but when I go (once a year maybe?) I use my SxS. Its a rossi coach gun with external hammers, and probably totally unsuitable for the sport, but I like the gun and so I use it anyway :) I think the problem with sxs is that the barrels share a bead sight that is not exactly true to point of aim for either barrel, while a O/U gun or single barrel gun has a bead that is correct for both (or the one) barrel. Minor, but if you are serious about the sport, it matters I guess.

I dunno, but don't a few have them in other locations like the very bottom/butt of the stock (either side?) ?? My best guess from the pic is a replacement stock. But its only a guess. I do not know if there were, for example, 250k or something unstamped and unused milsurp stocks left in a warehouse after the war or something? I dunno if such a thing might have been used at the armory to fix a gun that say took a round in the stock or fell in a fire or whatever, either.
