I second the SR 22 or a clone (but the ruger is the best made of that lot IMHO). The trigger to grip distance is ultra short, its like it was made for kids. A good revolver is also excellent but if he sees dad with autos he may want to be more like dad. There are a number with small grips and if it can be cocked the trigger will be close enough to the handle. DAO revolvers are no good for a kid. Ruger 10 shot or taurus equivilent maybe in 22? Or if you load your own, the classic "lady sized" 38s with light loads? Most other autos are going to be sized for an adult's hands. You might find a SAO of some sort that he can handle, like one of the old school single action 380s. He might find a cocked DA/SA gun comfortable --- like the revovler, the trigger moves back when cocked, making it reachable? Something like a makarov might do there. You can also download autos by replacing the springs. For example your .40, if you put in much weaker recoil springs you could shoot .40s that were little more than glorified 380s. This exchanges buying a new gun for a bit of aggravation (keeping track of springs and ammo, and handloading the ammo and not mixing it up!!).

So I guess now she is an inactive shooter. Given the 100000 totally made up and wrong versions of the navy yard thing, I have no confidence in anything we hear for the next 2 days. Maybe after that, even if wrong, at least they will collaborate and get a single story hashed out.

If you buy new, get as close to what you want as possible. If you want a wood stock, for example, buy it that way maybe. Used, It may come down to what you can find. Unusual to not see ANY for sale though. Unless you are trying to make a competition quality 100+ yard accurate super build, the stock barrel on a new one should be fine??

A little history lesson no longer taught in schools

Not really? Best I can recall is he was not all that excited about it one way or the other. -
I do not watch any TV. I prefer video gaming and reading in what little free time I have, and if I am doing something else it does not work for me, I can't concentrate on a second task while "watching" tv in the background. So I have no clue, except to infer from the title that its some sort of zombie blowout.

It does not even have to happen. We had it reported FOR A FACT by ALMOST EVERY MAJOR news outlet that the naval yard guy had an ar-15. Which he didnt. No need to even plant one.

I do not disagree, just wanted to clarifiy that the party names remain but the platforms all but did a total flip flop. So it was still the southern conservatives that were largely pro slavery --- who at that time were "democrats" --- and Abe was a product of the northern big city vote. -
Geez I thought I was doing ok with 10 loaded mags for mine.

Something like that... or in a terminator's world: Bah not safe -- forgot it was so vulgar lol ... you were warned http://www.consideredwords.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/terminator_possible_response_111109-300x156.jpg

My neighbor and friend were shot last night

The same thing that has been wrong with em since adam and eve. The vast majority are selfish, greedy, and dumb -- a recipe for disaster. -

but that was pre party flipflop. Back then the democrats were the southerners and nothing at all like the post WWI party that we all know and "love". Socialism had not even been invented yet as far as the usa was concerned, most of that came in the depression era. If it were 1880, harry, nancy, obama, and frankentstein would all be "republicans" I would bet on it. -

thank goodness it sounds like birdshot instead of something rougher. -
As I recall (meaning, its probably wrong?) there were a number of antiques in some exticnt calibers that loaded this way, I did not consider those when I posted earlier.... ? I did look for a few min for a 45-70 lever but did not find a suitable match. It seems likely enough that someone did this somewhere along the way. That thing in the video is a beautiful antique, I have no sound so I have no idea what it was before he converted it to something else (nor what he converted it to).

The lower is going to be stripped, since my vq trigger and gizmos are in it and those can be saved. I may or may not still have the original sear etc, they were pretty bad when I replaced them. I went back and did the barrel deep clean just to see and as expected it had some buildup and all. All polished up, its still shows a lot of wear, probably good for another year or two but I think I will still do a rebuild or replace in the next year or so.

Reference: Out the door, 1k round of 22 last week: $48(USD). (rem gold painted, boxes of 525). Slightly lower than yours, but a cheaper brand? Reference: On the web, AE ammo list price is $14.50, so after tax ours would actually be higher than $15 for 50.

loading from a gate in the stock is common for .22 LR, esp older models (pre 1980s at a guess, with most seen being 60s era?). A less common but not rare variety open in the butt of the stock. But I am drawing a blank on any big bore versions of this!!
-
I have heard they shoot a very few of the rounds well and most of the rest, not so well. I am not sure they are still cheap, been out of production for a while.. last I heard they were closing in on $1k a pop roughly for a pristine example. Maybe more now ? a bit more details for ya http://airbornecombatengineer.typepad.com/airborne_combat_engineer/2007/05/medusa_revolver.html

most competition 'weapons' of this type have no edge. Most do not have a point either. You could still beat someone with it --- it IS after all a piece of metal, but as far as a "sword" goes most are not much sharper than a piece of rebar. Its a sport, not a weapon of war or dueling, and the design is to NOT injure.

it may take an act of congress to refuse the pay. Not sure what the process is but doubtful its something accomplished in 24 hours eps with the paper pushers on vacation.

If I was on this list I would be pi$$ed

Agreed. The point was that with this situation the folks getting screwed are in limbo, neither able to work but not really out of a job either. All I was saying is they should continue to work (optional: take the time off if desired) and be paid once the situation is resolved (no resolution, they may have to quit eventually, losing a few days worth of pay on the gamble). Which would be treating them exactly like congress etc, pretty equal for everyone across the board that way. There would not be any extra taxpayer expense: they are already paid via taxes, true, and will be again inside a week. Out here in the private sector, this does not generally happen. We are laid off, and go away to find a new job, or we are cut down to part time and choose to go or stay, etc. Stuff happens, but most of the time, in the private sector, it is with more warning and the future is more clear, the decision to stay or quit (if there is one) is easier to figure out etc. -
It clearly states he had the sword due to having just practiced. Clearly, he belongs to the blackbeard school of fencing located, if memory serves, in barbados? The comment is confusing and probably he said a lot more and they lifted the one statement. I rememeber an interview done by my boss one time where he talked to them for like 45 min and they lifted 2 statements for his news flash when it aired. Methinks he was trying to say that mindset is as important as the weapon. That his training helped him to evaluate the situation and make a decision rather than stand there like a lump.

A good Red dot (small dot but no magnification) is sufficient to hit a 1-2 inch target at 50 yards. If you need to do more than that, you need magnification. I personally find the magnification to be very annoying and hard to use, and as others stated, getting the eye relief right is also tricky for some setups. I kept a traditional pistol scope on my 223 and while it makes 100-200 yard shots pretty well, anything under 100 yards the red dot is IMHO a much better choice. If you were asking about taking a big magnum out deer hunting, it would be a tossup.

That is pretty much how I do it as well, except for the TV bit. Sometimes I use clp instead of hoppes but not sure it matters too much.

Losing the job, people can cope with that. Its keeping it and being sent home for a week or whatever that is frustrating. They still have their jobs. Its very different from being laid off because being laid off is over and done, you move on. Here, you linger, wondering if you should just enjoy a day or 2 off and hope it does not become a month or more... the decision to quit or stay is more complex. And, again, its wrong because the folks that are not getting paid are the honest workers. The higher ups will all be untouched in the short term. -
I wish I could find some lead 22s. All thats been out lately are fmj, and all it has had in the past year were jacketed. I did get a little lead back when I could find bulk blazer, but that has been a long long while.
