I like him but his recent defeat is not a good sign. It was darn close, so maybe... but still not a good sign. Yes, Obamacare should be embraced fully and allowed to fail on its own merits now. Dirty tricks like refusing to fund it looks childish or worse. A % based funding of everythign would send a damn clear message..... once *everyone* and *all programs* get 10% of their needed budget by dividing the money in hand equally amongst those with a hand out, everyone will be mad as hell (both sides!) and maybe then the light would be seen.

the default recoil spring should be fine for the "occasional" defensive load and tons of typical practice ammo. If you want to shoot only defense ammo, get a stronger spring. If you want to shoot only low recoil self-loaded competition accuracy ammo, get a lighter recoil spring. I am not aware of anywhere that you could purchase the light target ammo that would require a lighter spring (???) -- surely someone sells it, but most folks roll their own... When he says lube it and make it wet ... the barrel needs some lube (thin!) as it slides thru the bushing and the recoil spring slides on the underside of the barrel, the slide hits it on the top... I just coat my entire barrel in a thin lube (er, outside only, lube inside is an obstruction and stuff).

POTUS's Opinions and my facebook post...

Violent video games, like guns, cause no problems at all in 99.99999% of users. Once in a while a nut gets his hands on one or both. This is not the fault of the video game any more than it is the gun -- it is a problem with a very small # of people who have a mental illness that causes them to be unable to seperate fantasy and reality. Also, I would add one more paragraph about the millions killed one by one in our ghettos, and point out that 10 here and 20 there once a year are not significant when compared to 50+ per day in major crime zones like LA or Chicago or other massive ghettos. Its not rocket science --- we know where the bulk of the crime happens (select major cities for most of it). We know what the suspects are likely to look like (male, usually minority, usually gang tattoos or "uniform" markings, usually in specific areas of the cities, etc). Go get em. -
5.56/.223 Case Prep and Handload Question(s)

If you shoot a lot I highly recommend looking for a bigger jug than 1 pound. Most powders, 1 pound will only make 250 or so rounds give or take. Which are gone fast in an AR. -
I am not sure what to think about a spell checker that knows some of those words .... the assumption being, that with limited number of words possible to store in the thing, words like buttgobblet or skittlefart are common enough to earn a spot in the things lookup tables.... Funny, but disconcerting as well.

I just bought a S&W M&P and like the 223 AR version, it is a good "for the price" entry level, no frills but well made choice. I have not shot many of these things so I can't say how it compares to others and I have not had it long enough to give a lot of commentary but I am well pleased with it.

The last 5 or so years have really given us a ton of good options for the pocket. My 938 stings my hands after a while. One box of 50 is about all I can take of it -- which is fine, I can tolerate practice sessions with it and that is sufficient. The most comfortable micro that I have shot remains the p238 -- it tames the recoil and I could shoot it all day long and enjoy doing so. The 9 isnt bad for what it is, but its significantly more than the 380. The next most comfortable thing is pf or makarov sized pistols, which are quite a bit bigger even if they fit in some pockets. As far as holsters go... I am 100% comfortable with no holster on guns with a long, heavy trigger. When I had hard to pull guns, they went in the pocket naked. Now that I have moved to the micro 1911s, I have a holster as I am not comfortable with a light trigger sitting uncovered in the pocket. Its probably more efficient to have a holster, but if your pockets are too small, sometimes you have to make do without. You would be amazed at what you can make fit in typical mens dress pants or average jeans. I briefly was pocketing a beretta px subcompact .... which is probably 2x the size of most of the stuff discussed here.

House plans to vote on de-funding obamacare
Jonnin replied to Wingshooter's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Wow, what leadership. The one thing that is not costing a cent (yet) is defunded in a bill that is 100% assured to fail while we continue to give our money away to our enemies, give our money away to our allies, give money away to people that refuse to work, continue to fund "research" into "global warming green energy climate change" junk science, continue to fund pointless wars, .............................. -

I follow the exact opposite school of thought. The folks that should get money are the ones who *cant* work, really and truly. Those who are so handicapped they cannot do even menial tasks --- extreme paralysis, mentally unable (and not talking stressed out or a bit slow here, talking either full on batcrap crazy or vegatative capacity), terminally ill, extremely old, and so on. People that can work should not need a constant infusion of cash from the govt for their entire careers --- a brief interest free loan would satisfy the bulk of those who need help but have a job and are trying. -
I think he had several over his lifetime. Who knows what he had as a senator, and before that, and then on to the alamo... Probably died with a "kentucky" type longrifle, either a flintlock or a caplock? For sure some sort of accurate single shot rifle. TN had gunsmiths making that type of rifle, of course.

barrett makes sense, but surely a state as old as ours has something a bit more flavorful in its long history?

JMB was a bright, talented guy. But to say we can't make improvements 100 years of engineering and tech later seems off to me -- esp since there are so many "not quite" 1911 designs that are very nice pistols. Take my carry gun, the sig 938.... its not really a 1911, no. Its a modern take on it designed for concealed carry and with some of the --erm-- "historic" design "features" corrected such as the annoying grip safety and barrel bushing. So long as the pure guns are available as well, I have been very pleased with the variety of "not exactly 1911" offerings. I do wish they would try poking a SAO action in a few other frames for variety once in a while, but apparently if you want a SAO you get a 1911 frame shape or else.

The cleanest result I have had was (I think dolomite suggested it?) the lizard litter. Its horribly dusty, but it gets the brass cleaner faster than anything else (admittedly only a few tried) that I have tried. Even dryer sheets only help so much with the dust. Its not a problem when it is active, its just an issue when you pour the brass & media out that it makes a big cloud. The only other thing I do is I put my brass trimmings in there. Sharp brass on brass shavings seem to help polish the cases. I do not trim enough stuff to have a lot of shavings, so this is a small amount, less than 5% of the media volume is brass cuttings. They tend to embed in the dryer sheets after a while so the % of shavings stays kinda low.

If the business cannot bother to follow the letter of the law, I also cannot be troubled. I prefer not to enter/spend/etc at such places, but there are exceptions and I am grateful for their inability to follow the rules. A few examples of places I have used their inability to post correctly include: a local theater, the sign is tiny and white on transparent and not on or even near the door. I actually had to spend about 5 min looking for it because I knew it HAD to be there. After finding it, I decided no one would ever have seen it making it invalid. A local shoe store had the sign 2 windows down from the door at ankle level, also white on transparent. Found that one 3 trips later and after having bought my shoes. I won't go back there. A fun food/game place has it on the inside wall, only visible as you exit the building. Being dragged there a couple of times a year, I just do not see it on the way inside unfortunately. My local car maintence shop has the unusual posting "no concealed weapons". I offered to carry it openly in my hand and they *cheerfully* said they would be *much happier* if I left it where it was.

I thought the debt ceil was how much total the USA is allowed to owe? In which case, its kind of like my credit rating say they raise my credit to 1mil worth ... even though I can go out and borrow the better part of a million bucks now, I don't have to do it, so my debt is not increased by having a higher credit rating so long as I do not use it. Reality is, though, congress will find a way to spend to the limit again. Much like a fool with a credit card, congress can't be trusted to stop borrowing more. Also, if they NEED to raise the limit then their PLAN is to borrow more. Otherwise, it does not need to be raised, does it? So, reality, its not terribly accurate. In fantasy land where we have credit that we do not use up, maybe its a half truth. -

Those things are a required tool IMHO. My biggest use of them is virus scans.... if someone gets an infection, its much easier to find on a clean PC scanning the victim drive than to try to find it on the infected machine where the malware will actively hide from you. They are also handy to recover the files that can be saved off a dying drive. -

Gay Liberal Commentator for CNN trashes gun control crowd.
Jonnin replied to wjh2657's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Its different. The gop allowed a candidate in the last presidential election who openly called being gay(etc) a mental disease or something like that (too lazy to dig up exact wording). I can't recall anything any of the candidates expressing that sort of opinion about any of the other groups you listed (not counting obama's many racist remarks here, talking gop only). When you drop down to the local elections, there have been as bad or worse many times over the past decade or so, you do not have to look hard at all to find some very unfriendly remarks. A few individuals have done a great deal of harm, and none of their peers have stood up to say "that is not right" which does additional harm. The racist/sexist gop branding garbage is just that... libreal garbage. If a candidate even hinted at such they would get the paula deen treatment and be 1) in the news for months and 2) never be seen in public again, much less get elected. Even actively looking to find these sorts of things to prove their case, the liberals constantly come up empty handed. There is nothing there to be found. As for voting on a single position, a few folks here might have something to say about that.... -
This is the property rights argument --- does the property owner have the right to exclude anyone for any reason, or not (though, in this case, they are not even asking anyone to leave!). The 2nd has nothing to do with property rights and the choices made by property owners. Just like it is not violating your rights to ask you to be quiet or leave if you are yapping in a movie theater, no matter how you twist the first ammendment.

More stuff is always good but its not that bad and I doubt this is really needed at such an in depth level. The actual design of the gun is super simple. Its just a #$%^ to get it apart and back together, and half of THAT issue is that unlike more modern designs, you CAN assemble it wrong in such a way that it does not function, resulting in a repeat disassembly and reassembly, which gets old.

Most places I have been have a 1k limit on primers lately, exception was the last gunshow where you could buy all you could afford at 125% the normal price.

Another day, another mass shooting in America. ^^^^^^^ If you had not marked this as worth reading, I would have stopped there since he opens with an outright lie. He does make some good points afterward. As a side note, if the GOP would stop alienating homosexuals, they would discover that about 1/2 of them, apart from their sexual orientation, are actually conservative in many other ways. -
An unofficial request to appease their left leaning customers that means nothing at all. Until they post a gunbuster sign or ask you to leave, you are as welcome as you ever were. Try thinking of it this way.... ever been somewhere that asked you to not have or turn off your phone, or not have a camera? Its exactly like that --- they won't throw you out for the camera, unless you are bothering everyone. You can't be arrested for having it there. If you are bothering a bunch of other customers, they have a policy to ask you to cease and desist. The policy is just there to appease the customers that thought the company was taking a stance (they are not) and to give them an out if they need to ask a rowdy group to leave the store, etc. All this "policy" does is appease the customers that the gun owning community drove off with their excitement. And I can't find any fault with them trying to earn money by trying to undo the damage to their customer base. Its a sad but true fact that wearing a gun openly bothers some people. It causes sheep to leave the area. But the sheep also have money to spend and there are more of them than us. It is not in our interest to run the sheep out of a friendly business, making said business become unfriendly.
