  1.   this!!! I have one of these and it is an awesome package.     Do not shoot wire-wound antiques unless you get the barrel checked out by a pro or replaced.  They are wallhangers.
  2. its one of those amusing to look at but would never, ever buy (or if I did, would not wear in public).   I do not even care to wear subtle hints that suggest I am armed.  The first I want someone to know about my weapon is it pointed at them.   Also, this one specifically is not helpful to our cause -- the guy looks like a thug and the suggested text is that he is in court, pleading his case for some crime he commiteed with a gun?   Not a good message.
  3. Random ramble.....  The "and" in the english translations annoys me.  Come take it/them.  Come 'and' take it sounds off to me.  So if I had one it would have to be in the greek.
  4. and if they do not move here, I think anyone can post to gunboards to sell and that site is geared toward milsurp specifically.     Be sure you know what you have etc, some stuff has gone up in value significantly in that time period.   Selling out of state.....  depends on the laws in both states as well as the federal laws and also matters if the other person has an FFL.   The easy way is shop to shop --- go to your local gun store, ask them to ship it to his local gun store, buyer eats the fees, the local store is in charge of any paperwork /state nonsense for the buyer.
  5.   Not to hijack but the 9x18 load data has been wimped up over the past decade or so.  These days below 1000 fps is "normal" for even defense ammo in the caliber which is BS.  When I carried mine, in the early 2000s, 1000 to 1100 fps was the listed value on the defense ammo in general.  I will even go out on a limb with a caveat.... I think you could load them to 1200 fps (totally redline here, NO MORE than this) if you used them in 1) an actual makarov pistol or other very high quality firearm (cz should be ok) and 2) put in a slightly stouter recoil spring (many makarov users do this for even normal ammo, to reduce wear and tear on the guns they put in one that is 2-3 pounds stronger).   The ONLY way to get hot mak defense loads is to roll your own.  Buffalo bore if you can find it and afford it, but the other brands are all very weak.   FPS isnt everything.  Below about 2000 fps, you should look at momentum as your source of "damage" from the round, not "energy".   So while you CAN do the above, the round isnt ever going to be "energy based".  FPS still helps, but when you see the difference in momentum from eeking out tiny bit more FPS using red-line handloads.... you might reconsider and stick to a "yellow line" load instead.   The difference isnt worth it.  If you think a 1050ish 9x18 won't do the job, then get a 9mm or 40 or something bigger.
  6. Missed it by a day or 2, but hey, my crystal ball used to be a bedknob.   What else would you use?  Is it even legal to say?  IIRC drano & tin foil mix to make a bomb that can blow up a glass bottle or even a hard plastic one.  IIRC gas and several compounds can mix to make a very nasty bomb --- fire spreaders that not only explode but spray flaming liquid a goodly distance in all directions.   there are 2 of the popular and well known examples, I won't go on with it but the bottom line is that an industrious idiot can make a bomb easily.  Its setting it off safely from a distance that usually poses a problem and takes a smarter (slightly) thug.     BTW homemade black powder is one of the most simple things to make.  What next, ban charcoal? A number of nonexplosive items can be ground to a fine dust and ignited to effect.  Texas comes to mind.  As do grain dust explosions, etc.  Again from memory but I think modern coal is ground to a find dust and blown (with air or even high oxygen) to combust it cleaner and hotter.  Coal dust will also explode as with grain dust etc.   Come to think of it, oxygen in a jar......  also all the ---ane gasses like the propane tank for your grill.  Put that bad boy in a pressure cooker and light it off....    again, any idiot can make a bomb.
  7. I agree with him.  We MUST loosen the constraints on the 2nd to ensure "the security of a free State".
  8. Kimber is more about pretty than function in my experience.   They do look nice..... but  I cannot tell the difference in function vs a cheap 1911.  The kimber trigger is better than the cheap guns (in general), but its not $300 better.   I have nothing against kimbers except the inflated price to quality ratio, though: if you WANT a pretty gun they are a good choice.   If the gun is for carry and basic range play, get a cheap ($750 ish) 1911.   There is no reason to spend more unless you want one of a (collectors item, competition gun, piece of art, brand name, etc).     RIA is a strong contender.   You might also, since it is your carry gun, take a look at "not exactly 1911s"  as well.  For example, colt's defender, or para's small carry guns, are not quite 1911s (being in various calibers other than .45 and nontraditional frame sizes, some even have double stack mags).   My sig 938 is another idea if you want a small gun, though its not quite as fun at the range as a fullsize (what small gun IS?) its fun enough that I run a box thru it for kicks pretty often.
  9.   3 people?  3 what?  Mental health professionals are *clueless*, in truth.  They treat symptoms but not a one of em has cured a violent person to the point that said person can return to a 100% free and normal life to the point that the doctor can say with 100% certainty that the patient will never go ape again.   Until they can cure the disease, they do not truly understand the disease.  Until they understand the disease, they cannot predict who will and who will not do something violent.  Until they can do that, there is no way they can sign away someone's rights.    So they err on the side of caution: deny the rights!  If they do NOT, and the guy DOES shoot someone, they are in trouble.  But if they deny the rights and no one gets hurt, they are geniuses.   ....... There is no scenario here that is not epic fail for gun owners.
  10. it would be fine to put a starter edge on something that had already been abused.  I used a grinder to form the edge on an old bayonet that had been cut in half to make a knife.   I use a grinder on my mower blade.    Grinding an edge.... do NOT let the metal get HOT.   It will ruin it.   So you use a slow speed keep the metal cold as you grind.    For anything that is not practically ruined to begin with,  a grinder should be a no-go.  5 or 6 whetstones is the right way to do a real blade, or if you prefer, the modern tools.     Also beware diamond.  Some of those take off too much metal too fast.  Its a good tool, but many over-use the high abrasive stones/systems and take off 4 times the metal needed to do maintenance sharpening.
  11. Seems to be a different set of food for sure.  I once met a northern woman who was ranting that there was nothing to eat down here.  I cheerfully agreed and suggested she go home...   The strangest thing to me up north was the all in one places.   Bills subway taco bell BP gas station type places.   Efficient, but they seemed odd to me.
  12. A nice looking example.   2 boxes of ammo worth more than the pistol cost you....    sigh.   Wife got one not too long ago and I have been on a saga to try to reload for it.   With dubious results so far, lol.   Learned an awful lot ... mostly things not to do...

    Would you go?

It would depend on a lot, but I could be convinced to go.  They would never take me (too old, too out of shape, etc) but for example if my wife died, I would go.  Or if we both went, yea 10 years from now, ... maybe.   If launch was today, no.     But what they probably want is a healthy 18-20 year old loner  (can function without social interaction) with some enough brains to solve problems and survive, healthy and tough enough to survive, with enough common sense to not make stupid, fatal mistakes.  A very rare person, really....
  14. for a pistol with a long trigger pull, I see no danger.  I have never understood how anyone can pull a 10 pound ish trigger a full inch or more "by accident".   Try it on an unloaded gun of this type .... you cant do it.  you can lift the firearm by its trigger, no bang.  The gun has to be immobile or it will move (entire gun) under the force.  Once it is immobile (not easily done even in a pocket), you have to stick something in the trigger guard at a precise angle and apply a ton of force (angle is difficult to get in a pocket).  How could one not notice this happening???   Its not dangerous.  Yes, someone could probably find a way to fire the gun by "accident" anyway -- but you can do that even if the gun is sealed in a steel box, given the self destructive nature of some people.
  15. Mental health is not an exact enough science that anyone CAN make a judgement call as to who is and who is not allowed a gun unless the person has a violent history.  Most who have a violent history are known and in the system already (not NICS, but the mental health system, which is not organized, and needs to be).  What you can't do is predict who will "snap" one day, esp teenagers who can be ignored as "angsty" when they may actually be "deeply disturbed".    If they want to do something, organize mental health databases for violent persons as a starting point.  Privacy aside, I would rather know about the guy who is deemed a danger to everyone around him than who exposed himself in public 77 years ago.   That is,  lets fix the databases....   we don't need a "sex offender" database, we need a "violent persons" database which would INCLUDE rapists, child molesters, etc as well as murderers and the mentally unstable with a history of attacking people at random and so on.   It would include the disturbed kids that take 4 adults to subdue when they get angry.    That is not even a gun issue.  Its a privacy vs public safety issue.   If its ok to list sex offenders though, it should be OK to do this.   Second tier, after doing this (registry of violent persons) is to share the data with NICS.   Even so, with the best system we could make, you still gonna have a few people snap and go on a killing spree.   This cannot be prevented, see the knife/bat/etc attacks in gun free countries.
  16. Wakizashi is the short sword "katana"   The curve is very slight and the tip is squared off etc just like its more well known big brother.    Go smaller and it becomes the tanto knife.
  17.   which is what, $300 or more today?   A significant take.   Personally, I am ok with the one guy.  Its not HIM.   Its the one who never got caught again but is quite willing to do whatever it takes to get his drugs or money to buy them, or who deals quietly.   I do not want a bunch of criminals armed, *some* of whom may indeed be a danger to someone.   And yes, a 70 year old in good health can do quite a bit of damage.

  19. it varies by culture and era of the weaponry.   There are a variety of short swords and long daggers that overlap in length.  Typically a short sword is about 2 feet, a dagger 1 to 2 feet, a sword 2-3 and up to over 5 for a few 2 handed.
  20. welcome!  Its very different here, for sure.
  21. Because 50 cal are used to rob every other grocery store and are standard for muggings, I fully support gov christie chaging parties to one that is more friendly to idiocy and illogic.
  22. This should be much simpler than it sounds.    If she is on board with getting the guy out of her life, you call the police, explain the situation, get a restraining order.  Alert them that he is a serious problem and ask for a patrol around your home for a couple weeks after that.  Then after that if he breaks in, he is like any other intruder.   However if she is not on board and is willing to allow him to carry on as before, you need to butt out and let her suffer.  Sorry, but its a no go in that situation until she wises up.

if and when he hands over all protected priests and all information about them to the authorities and cooperates fully to end the child abuse scandal, he will earn my praise.   If he continues to hide and protect them, he can burn with the rest.   I could care less what else he does.  Giving away a little money --- lots of not very nice people do that all the time.
  24. I am not sure that a manhunt is "unreasonable" searching of nearby property.   If a search for a dangerous individual who could be hiding near your home is not a reasonable thing for the law to be doing, I do not know what IS.       Not sure I would let them inside to look around, but I do not think the request is unreasonable at all.
  25. I can't decide if she is a brain damaged puppet being fed stuff to say or not.   This one is a written document..... want to bet her idiot husband or other leftwingers helped to write it?  She seems like she can barely string 5 words together sensibly.
