I really do not know. Many languages, including non PC (that is, standard) english, refer to the generic as masculine. That is, when unsure of the gender or referring to both genders, the pronouns are male but both are intended. I could not say if this is the case for whatever that book was written in originally or not.

Many of these seem strange to me. Talking home defense, you list things like range (dunno where you live but if they are more than 20 yards away they get a SEP field (someone else's problem) cause they are robbing the neighbor, not me. I mean, I will help, but I am not going to bust out my sniper rifle and pick them off, I am gonna call the cops and keep my eyes open. You list defeating armor, which exactly 0.000000000001% of home invaders tend to wear. One handed use: ok, maybe, but I would take my pistol over either one if I had only 1 arm. Faster follow up shots? well my shottie is semi auto so the issue there is just recoil. It recoils more because it is more powerful.... ease of use? About the same, you pull the trigger; both have the same (one button off) safety. Really the AR has capacity (of weaker ammo) and ease of reloading (very important, but after 11 rounds of shotgun, I will NY reload to pistol if anything is still trying to get at me). It has those advantages for sure. Anything else seems like, at best, minor "advantages" and closer to "differences".

That was not 100% accurate, I fixed my post. It appears the KJV guys had SOME access to original text, I thought they did not. It also seems the shakespere involvement was a myth. Shows how much I know! Still, re-read it, its cobbled from the web but probably a lot closer than what I said off the top of my head which was all wrong!

No, KJV is not the best. It was influenced by the church policy and beliefs, and the team working on it did not have a fraction of the modern resources. The king told the translators how to do it, on top of the barriers they had for not knowing the ancient languages as well as modern specialists do. They did the best they could and its not "bad" but between modern knowledge (and more ancient scroll caches) and their version of english (lets face it, half of it does not even make sense to most of us) its by far not the best. Sorry for the edits my memory is so hazy I gave up and looked it up. Good news is a casual translation to make a more book-like read. NIV is the one to go with for scholarly questions, though even better is to have a parallel version with 4 or 5 options for each verse in question.

I can fill that one in 10 seconds (skipped around, dunno if someone already did it) , though why in the world you want something written in incomprehensible english is beyond me. here: Leviticus 18:22 King James Version (KJV) Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Naturally you have to have a degree in euphemisms and archaism to unravel it. I am surprised it does not say something like "Men shalt not come to know men" or something even more confusing. My favorite of the translations (of about 50 variations) was the "good news" version... No man is to have sexual relations with another man; God hates that.

Sig 938 in my pocket. I was just never able to get waist area holsters to be comfortable all day in an office chair and have really taken to the small 9mm fad and the many options we have now. A little low on round count but everything else about it is perfect for me. The why is it is deep concealed, easy to draw, and comfortable to wear, fits in any clothing with a pocket, can even mix it up to carry in a jacket pocket or ankle rig or even a small IWB setup if I want (though I dislike it, I have a rig for it). As someone who does not get into terribly dangerous areas often, it should be enough.

google is anti-gun. They, like comcast and some other media outlets, will NOT allow legal firearms related companies to advertise or use their services. They have a liberal bias (strange, given their motto) and present the most obscure and hateful magazines on their news page (mother jones, for example) but never have ANY links to conservative viewpoints. Conclusion: google is not our friend. It may be required to tap as a search engine now and then as most of the other engines either rent google's results or provide poorish result or are equally evil companies, but do not ever mistake them for an ally or a neutral source of anything.

hmm lots of different stuff in here lol! rob zombie... I dislike the man, he is either actually satanic or using it for the money (both ways are pretty much evil anyway). But that is one of 3 that I can rock out to anyway. I also like living dead girl and the older one that is a tribute to bladerunner (forget the name, more human than human song). The monkeys ARE retarded Beatles. Literally --- they were a parody of them but their music was liked well enough they morphed into a real band after a time. I also hate time of my life (dirty dancing song). I did not even see the movie until decades later. Actually, anything cetera sang is awful, that one is simply extra awful because of overplay and, if you had the misfortune of watching the movie, it brings up disturbing mental images. I also hate maggie may and that is pure overplay. I like about 1/4 of rod's stuff well enough. american pie is awesome --- once. It is too long, the guys in it died before I was born and that is starting to mean it was a pretty long ass time ago. I much prefer the star wars version, which is equally well done. The doors ... I like jim's voice but, well the 70s were hard on everyone. They serve as a good example of the period, where the music is worthless to anyone NOT stoned on something very hard, in this case, LSD is required.

most of the 1911-22 style pistols that are recent seem to be of dubious quality. Not junk but not 1911 rugged either. Its expensive, but if you want a 1911 22 build one from a 1911 rather than buy one of the 22 versions, using one of the quality adapter kits. meanwhile, the mark 3 is the same old rugged design as always and will last a lifetime. You may want to remove the extra safety and convert it back into a mark 2, but its a well made, accurate, amazing pistol. If I had my choice, I would get a high dollar custom 1911 22 with a trigger job and the works. If I could not have that, I would skip to the mark 3. Again, though, I am not saying the 1911-22 models are "bad", I am just saying that between the 2 I would pick the ruger for a number of reasons (again, better made, probably more reliable, fixed barrel = accuracy, easy to do trigger job, and so on).

I hate the original BUT some game nerds made a GREAT VIDEO AND SONG parody of it "roll a D6" that I advise anyone who knows what a D6 is to watch. The non gamers can skip it, it would not make sense to em. For me, it is not the music. I can tolerate even bad music. Its the idiot announcers that yap and cut up on the air and the dumb, loud, and over the top advertisements that get me to change the station. Soon as someone speaks, I hit the button, and I don;t much care if its traffic, a commercial, or just a yapping announcer. Mp3 players have eliminated most of this but I still get stuck with just a radio now and again, and when I do, it is usually an awful experience. I know about 10 times a day they play what my wife calls the douche song on the radio, and she hates that one with a passion. (blinded by the light, wrapped up like a douche...) whoever wrote that was on the good stuff....

It depends on the guys you have and what they are into. Not all men (gasp) want a bottle of booze or a weapon... most of the ones here maybe, but not all guys. The temptation is to spend big $$ to get some fancy whatever that will be stored away and treasured for life. Some folks appreciate this sort of thing, many men do. The other option is to get something useful. I prefer this, would rather have a $50 work knife than a $500 dustcatcher with gold filled engraved text on it. I understand that I am atypical, but hey, its a data point for you. That said if your buddies are into guns, a nice gun works for them. Most any guy appreciates a knife. If you know that booze works, then booze works. A nice pen can be a great choice, can be engraved yet useful, and as fancy or not as you have the $$ for. Most guys have no idea what to do with cufflinks, tiepins/clips, or other "man bling" that is mostly out of style unless you frequent the opera, on par with buying the guy a top hat.

our local sportsmans warehouse has a "class" that covers the basics and the guy will help a person one on one if you wait for the crowd to die down after (or any other time he is working). You might see if your local store has this, if you have a SW? Any place that sells the components should have a guru tucked away that can assist you. With any luck, you can find one that is not trying to sell you stuff and actually wants to help! And of course, asking here should net you an experienced TGO person to help out.

It has always been about getting into the church, for the gay community. For decades they have tried to get into the churches, from gay weddings to gay clergy and more. I wonder if this is just part of that strategy, to erode churches by a two step process... 1) get to the scouts 2) when scouts are booted from churches, where a great many troops meet, to raise a stink about that.... My personal opinions that I do not care to force on anyone.. - The churches are right for throwing them out. - The gays are wrong for forcing the scouts, a private group, to accept them. I strongly uphold the right to discriminate in private settings whether its the black engineers or the KKK or whatever other similar racist/sexist/etc group. If the group is offensive to enough people, it will self destruct eventually. - The scouts are right to accept gays given the poor arguments against it (molestation?! sex between boys?! ) and inability to formulate a logical reason not to. (Taking a stand, simply saying "we think homos are immoral" would suffice, right or wrong). - And finally, I think scouting will survive just fine and in 5 years no one will know the difference.

Its not the ones in the TV, its the cheapos that are put on printed circuit boards. That is, its not the "big" capacitors that work on direct AC or whatever, its the little ones on the PCB that have gone to being junk in the last decade or so. As said, they dry out and then short out or fail some other way (?). I have seen them double in size when they fail, or burst. Ive seen it happen from simply turning something old off and back on, and can only assume that a power surge *could* do something. It may not be the capacitors anyway, those are just one very common point of failure of some 20 contenders. It could be the power supply, any of the electronics (chips, memory, etc) or the screen itself.

A choke is a small metal ring that threads into the inside of the barrel (at the far end where the shot exits the barrel). The different sizes (thickness, really) and shapes work to change how different types of shotshells pattern. They can be dangerous if you forget the wrong type in the barrel and shoot off a slug (barrel obstruction..!). There is more detailed info online about the types and what they do for different purposes. I would run without a choke for home defense; but my HD shotgun is fulla slugs and buckshot and expected to be used at just a few yards. Chokes are, IMHO, for use in hunting applications more than defense.

Right. ^^^ The nylon version of the side saddle: http://www.amazon.com/Allen-Company-Buttstock-Shotgun-Holder/dp/B0016814WS and obviously (or not) you could have both :)

you do not have a lot you can do at home. Thankfully expensive power strips replace items lost, hopefully yours has the $10k replacement value clause? Take a look! They are supposed to have a fuse or breaker type thingy that you can manually reset which is supposed to trip on a big hit. I would try at total unplug, then turn it on with the remote. Wait 1 min and plug it back in. Try it again. Capacitors are the current weak link in modern cheap electronics (or even sometimes in expensive stuff). They are poorly made (cheap!) and you are lucky to get 5 years out of something. Naturally spikes and surges can shorten this...

Its one of the biggest problem I have with glocks (and its not their fault). Fanboi salesmen and new shooters is the answer. Some guy buying his first pistol, what do all the fans scream? "get a glock". The salesman, peers, online forums, they all say this. So he buys one and then over the year, shooting it some, he sees other folks and tries out something he actually likes ..... and sells the glock to fund it. Its a combination of peer pressure and ignorance.

My true first is a ruger blackhawk bisley (funny grips) 44 mag. I still have it. My dad acquired it for me as a gift before I was old enough to buy one. While a great pistol, you simply cannot find any grips that are not just like the originals (I want something big & soft/rubberish). The original grips are small and put a lot of recoil back in your hands; I mostly shoot it with weak ammo now as it is just too much stress on my hands with max loads beyond a few shots. It was bought by picking one out by looking at the pictures in a magazine...! Neither of us knew much about handguns. The first one I bought myself was my makarov, when I came of age, bought to carry. I still have that one as well, and it is still awesome.

I think most of the 'hate' is a distrust of other people's reloads. Even most reloaders won't shoot another's loads.

Speaking of basics, its not a "rifle" (if no one said it yet). The bore is not rifled, its smooth, usually (some are for hunting with slugs which sort of turns the gun into a rifle, this is a less common setup). They are always referred to as a shotgun though. I know little of pump guns as I prefer semi-autos. The semi-autos reduce the recoil somewhat but can be, like any semi-auto, picky about ammo (mostly there is some really weak/cheap ammo that won't cycle them). The bulk of autos use the same design browning came up with in the early 1900s -- its pretty well been tested and refined. Most modern guns let you increase the capacity with a cheap ($30 or so?) tube extension; IMHO the tube and barrel should be the same length and as another said, 5 is a good minimum. The big shells are 3 inches so 5 of those is 15 inches which is not even a legal shotgun barrel length.... 18 inches is 6 rounds, and one more in the chamber is 7, not bad at all. Besides extra capacity, a sling may or may not interest you. And a recoil pad, a slip on type is fine, can help if you want to shoot it a lot at one time (clays etc). You may want a way to have some extra rounds on the gun, some folks do. I have a $5 nylon shell holder that goes on the stock, there are metal ones that are nice but cost more if you prefer that look (they mount to the gun frame not the stock)

Illinois House and Senate passes CCW!
Jonnin replied to White Goodman's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Sweet. Anyone know if the cities can further restrict it or outright ban it (making it meaningless in chighetto) or if this is a *real* step? -
and people make fun of gangsta grip. Laugh all you want the brass hits the floor that way...

Gov. Haslam: No need for more state gun legislation
Jonnin replied to Garufa's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
He probably thinks he is showing support for gun owners by saying this stuff. Never even crossed his mind that ALL arms regulation (from nunchuks to nukes) PERIOD is unconstitutional. -
I will bet not, but you can count on an attempt to take his weapons (either by government or by family). Be interesting to know how it ends up...
