  1. Some of you may remember THIS THREAD from last fall. It was asked who would be the TGO test subject and buy one. Well i'm your sucker volunteer. So now I'm gonna tell you all about it. Here's a link to the manufactures web page with all the details. Extar EP9 Also note that the price is $419. That's pretty cheap for a gun like this. That's also why they're so popular. First off, the thing is kind of hard to get a hold of. They restock on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5:00pm Mountain Time. And you better be there then because these sell out real quick! I talking the whole inventory is gone in less than an hour. It took six months, but I finally happened to catch it at the right time and ordered one. The website also mentions that it takes 1 to 2 weeks for shipment. Believe it! It was two weeks exactly from the time I ordered until I had it in my hands. I have no idea why it takes so long, but it does. Here's how it comes in the box. You might note that the brace was already on it when it arrived. All the info says it comes separate and the web site even includes instructions for putting it on. Oh well, I ain't gonna argue about it. Here it is after I added a few things: First impressions: Its a neat little pistol. Compact, light weight and it even looks kinda cool. It handles very well. The trigger is a bit heavy at just over 7 pounds. However, it breaks very clean and crisp. Once I got used to it, I could handle it quite well. Of course that's easy enough to fix. But I think I'm gonna leave it as it is. Magazine issues: The gun comes with one Magpul 17 round Glock magazine. It works perfectly, no problems there at all. However I also ordered 4 Glock factory extended magazines for it. two 24 round and two 32 round. They had issues. all the mags fit ok, but none of them wound drop free when released. They were just a little too tight. I ended up having to sand the sides down a bit in order to get them to drop free. I remember in one of the You-tube reviews I saw that that guy mentioned that he had to do that too. Not really a big deal, but it was irritating to have to do it. Since I don't own any Glock pistols to try, I can't say if the regular pistol mags work or not. It may just be an issue with the extended versions. When shooting the gun I also discovered that it is entirely possible to shove the mag in too far when inserting the mag on an open bolt. When this happens, the bolt hangs up on the back of the mag when trying to close. This only happens if you shove the mag in very hard. Plastic on plastic I guess? Anyway, I learned to insert the mag and then give it a slight downward pull as as it seated. Again, not a big deal but irritating until you get the hang of it. maybe the gun just needs a little break in time? IDK? Range Report: Ok. so I took it out today and shot it. I started shooting off the bench at the 25/50 yard range. I needed to sight it in and I wanted to shoot some groups. Overall performance was good. Here's a few targets. Bear in mind that I'm a shaky, half blind old man. A younger shooter and a better trigger would probably get better groups. MALFUNCTION!: It seems that one of my reloads was out of specs. It wouldn't go all the way into the chamber. When that big, heavy bolt rammed into it, the cartridge got stuck big time! It wouldn't fire because the bolt was slightly out of battery. OTOH, the extractor had a death grip on the cartridge and I couldn't get the bolt open to clear it. I ended up having to separate the upper and lower receivers and putting a wooden dowel down the barrel and hammering the stuck cartridge loose. But this was the fault of a bad round, not the gun. After getting it sighted in and shooting groups, I then moved over to the Action Shooting range. I had a bay set up with 7 steel round plates, 1 popper and I added three IDPA cardboard targets. From there it was all run and gun! I'd put in a magazine and start banging steel as fast as I could go. I got good hits every single time and was able to stay in the A zone on the cardboard consistently. The little gun performed like a champ! All in all, I put 500 rounds through this thing today. Except for the malfunction already mentioned, it fed and fired everything I put in it. Factory ammo, my reloads, FMJs, HPs and LRN. But be warned, this little sucker will burn through a whole lot of ammo real quick! One more little item to mention. When you start dumping 32 round magazines through this thing, the handguard tends to get hot! And that little quarter inch exposed section of the barrel nut behind the handguard gets real hot! I'm thinking it will be a good idea to add some sort of forward grip to this thing. Not sure if I want to go straight or angled? Opinions here would be welcome. Final thoughts: Ok, so I got one. Now what? Honestly, I don't know why I bought it? Looks cool and sorta appeals to the inner operator in all of us. But does it really serve any real purpose that my current handguns and rifles don't already fill? I just don't know. If the S should ever HTF. I know what I'll be grabbing and this ain't it. Granted, for what it is and at its price, its a darn good little gun. Yeah, it has a couple of little quirks, but nothing bad enough to say don't buy. I enjoyed shooting it as it is a lot of fun. But somehow I get the feeling that I'm just gonna play with it for a while and eventually send it on down the road. I'm gettin' a little bit too old to be playing at being an operator.
  2. Thoughts on the new ZRODelta Modulus pistols? I ordered these back in November and just got them in this month. I got to take it out to the range for the first time last week and very pleased with the way it shoots. The all metal construction gives it a nice balanced fee. It’s solid and feels softer shooting than a factory G19. The key feature is its modular construction. Dust cover, grip sections, slide and mag wells can be changed out. It uses Glock internals (gen 3 trigger system). Slide has red dot cut out already and can use the different adaptor plates for your specific red dot. This is in the compact setup but the duty and race versions will be available later. So far I really like it and have gotten positive feedback from those who have put their hands on one.
  3. Hello, I am aware that Tennessee has the castle doctrine extended to a person in legal possession of a vehicle. I am also aware a person over the age of 18 can possess a handgun but not purchase. I can not find a clear answer to: Can an 18-21 year old have loaded handgun in a vehicle they legally possess? or any references? Thanks
  4. For all who might be interested, note that Range USA indoor shooting range, closed its doors yesterday for good. Long time shooting range and training center, the closing caught many by surprise and injected a sad note among shooters. Not only was it a good place to shoot, but there developed a camaraderie among customers and staff there to sort of a brotherhood. Range USA will be sadly missed. Loss of an old friend. No reason given for its closing. The range in Jackson Tennessee is closed also.

    Taurus G2C

Have been at Taurus G2C for my wife’s EDC anybody have any experience with these good or bad? She finally agreed to start carrying so doing a little research on this gun. I like the 12 rounds capacity just just not sure about the Taurus brand. We are going today to let her put her hand on a few different ones like the shield and maybe a G26 or a Sig. I really like the price of the Taurus but if it won’t work when needed it not a deal.

    Latest CC Setup

A couple of weeks ago, I got my brand new S&W 442 out of lay-a-way at Harvey's here in Knoxville. Been looking around for a new holster for it. I ended up picking DeSantis Sof-Tuck IWB #106. I got it today from Academy Sports and have been carrying all afternoon. This is my first foray with a IWB holster. I'm pretty impressed do far with the concealablity and comfort! One thing I'm not impressed with though is the durability of the finish on this pistol. It's already picked a couple of scratches. For a Smith, I would have expected a more scratch resistant finish. So far that's the only thing I don't like about this little revolver.
  9. Looks like Ruger is going budget to compete with the Heritage Rough Rider with a new revolver called the Ruger Wrangler. Aluminum cerakoted in three color combos to start. MSRP is $250. Looks like I'll be selling a rough rider and upgrading to a Ruger for my niece and nephew. https://ruger.com/products/wrangler/models.html
  10. All. I am looking to make a gun shopping loop through Middle Tennessee South of Nashville this Saturday. Does anyone have any recommendations for stores that stock Dan Wesson, Night Hawk, Wilson, Ed Brown or others like these. I would really like to put my hands on a Wilson EDC X9 if possible. I'm just tired of looking at the same old guns if you know what I mean.
  11. I am a big Beretta fan but I gotta say that I am not impressed. A slim 9mm with more moving parts than a Glock 43 . Plus the end of the gun seems like it would print more than the Glock 43. I say this because I am comparing it to the G43 I own. I like it but not enough to go spend money on it AT THIS TIME. What are your thoughts ? I will add that in my opinion , One of the good things that sets it apart from the S&W Shield is that the rear sights doesn't hold down the striker safety plunger. I detail strip my pistols annually so it makes a difference to me.

    Colt

Just got a colt Mark 4 gov. Model series 80 45, made 1988. A few scratches on bright finish. Cleaned up real good, very smooth. Haven't fired yet. I haven't Owen a 1911 be for. Any info on it would be good. Thanks Cuz
  13. Ok guys lets hear what you guys think about the difference between these 2 guns. I seen the Sig P320 X-Compact and it looks pretty sweet. Just wondering how you think it compares to the tried and true Glock 19?
  14. So my birthday was this past weekend so a few days before I went to the LGS and picked up a LCR .327 as a present for myself. It's just a gun that just got into my head to buy for the last 3 weeks. Don't know why, I perfectly happy with my LCR .357. Maybe it's the extra round and the fact you can shoot 5 different kinds of ammo. Anyways what ammo is best for cheap practice and ammo is best for self defense? Thanks.

    New 1911

Picked up a new RIA "ROCK" series full size in 45 acp. Already had one from 2012 I got in a trade, 45 acp. Also have a Ruger SR1911 in 45 acp and a RIA "ROCK" full size in 9mm. I have already made some changes, changed out the full length guide rod for a GI type and put the rubber grips on. I like my 1911's to have rubber grips, GI style recoil system and single sided safeties. There is just something about a full size 1911 in my opinion.
  16. Hey guys I was doing some YouTube watching and I seen a video of hickock45 doing a review of the sig P224. Do any of y’all have your own personal experience on it. Is it a good gun or junk? From what I understand it’s a cut down subcompact version of the 229. Let me know what ya think
  17. I just saw this while looking at the Security 9 specifications. I never heard or saw it advertised. Kinda neat ! https://ruger.com/products/security9/specSheets/3818.html
  18. TAURUS Rebate of $25 or $30 varies on the Model (color). Typical price on the gun varies from $189.99 up to $209.99. Rural King (RK) is offering it at $179,99 on the all black model (add tax and background in store) and take off the $25 REBATE. NOT BAD for a 12 +1 9MM that I consider a decent gun. Base that on my Millennium G2 bought in 2016 and guess 1000 plus rounds has been reliable and decent shooter for my ability. The G2C is near same gun with one modification (the lock feature has been removed). INFO in case interested --- go to Taurus WEB site for details on REBATE and search for the gun where ever suits you -- RK has advertised the best price as far as I know.
  19. Just saw that Stoeger has a new polymer pistol out called STR-9 . Looks very interesting. The internals look very Glock-like. I am very interested. I had 2 of their Cougars when they came out around 11 years ago. Seems they have a MSRP of $329 so store prices could be well under $299. We are living in some great times with all these new guns coming out and prices being lower on some like this and the Mossberg , and others. I am very interested in this STR-9 . Just thought I'd share this. Seems pretty neat to me . I know some don't care for another polymer pistol but my older Stoeger Cougars were darn nice. They were built on the old Beretta Cougar machines. But if you look close at the frames on these new STR-9's , you can see some of the Beretta APX pistol resemblance. https://www.stoegerindustries.com/str-9
  20. I am liking the looks and the review in American Rifleman on the Mossberg MC1SC. Has anyone handled one or shot one yet?
  21. Cuz here, New member joined yesterday,I've never been on any forum before. Bought the sig p226 mk25 a while back, shoots great with no issues. I think I would like to install the (short reset trigger). Wondering if anybody KNOXVILLE, Maryville area could do it for me... Thanks Cuz
  22. Hey guys, just got a M&P9 Shield 2.0 with manual safety. Was wondering what you guys suggest for some modifications that earnestly improve the handgun.
  23. Have any of you guys/gals wondered about a single sided slide stop ? I like some of the Glock Gen 5 changes but I don't like the double sided slide stop. I know I could cut off the other side but wondering what you guy think ? Any information is appreciated.

New to me S&W 25-5 in .45 COLT

This came from an estate I'm helping the widow sell off. I'm not a big fan of wheel guns but for $450.00, I couldn't say no. Bill
  25. Ok guys I need your help. So after shooting a friends 1911 9mm I think I want one now. It was a great shooter but I don’t want to pay what he paid for his Dan Wesson. I’m looking at buying a used one because normally you can find a pretty well loaded used 1911 for a fair price vs buying a new one. So what are some good brands to look for in the used market? Trying to stay around the 600 range. What would you guys recommend?
