  3. My FN 509 MRD arrived this past week and I wasted no time popping a spare Trijicon RM07 red dot optic on it and taking it to the range. This is my second 509, having purchased the non optic-ready midsize 509M earlier this year and being very pleased with it as well. As I have commented elsewhere on TGO lately, I am quickly coming to the point where I am not interested in a handgun for daily carry if isn't set up for use with an optic. I began the red dot journey a year ago and am fully converted to the religion now. If you had asked me about it two years ago, I would have told you I was greatly skeptical. This one of those things where personal exposure and experience are the greatest persuaders. As for the 509 MRD, there is is only one reason that this gun could could fail to put a hurt on the sale of more well known 9mm handguns for duty or serious concealed carry: lack of marketing exposure. FN doesn't have the marketing budget of Glock or Smith & Wesson, I'm sure. But they have a superior firearm in the 509. There. I said it. Buy one before the rest of the world figures it out and you have to wait to find one.
  4. I've just been given this by a really good friend (it's good to help out sometimes!) As far as I can tell it's a Model 32 (possibly a Terrier) in .38 s&w That's pretty much all kinds can find online about it. I found a couple on Gunbroker with values that, to me, seem outlandish, but I can't find any dating info for the serial number. It has one number on the butt, that matches inside the grips, but there's a different number on the inside of the crane. Can anyone help me out with dating/value info please? This is my first actual Smith revolver.....
  5. Checking if any members own a Charter Arms 41 Mag .. I own 5 Charter revolvers at this time , and like them ... Im sorta waiting to see if they produce one with a 4 inch barrel like my 357
  6. Liked the looks, features, and feel of FIREFLY when first saw these a year or so ago at $189.99 (that day decided on the GSG 1911 22LR for $239.99). BTW, you may know GSG made the Mosquito for Sig and Sig gave it up. Anyway, for a Low Priced Gun Buyer like me to spend the extra $50 for the GSG was a struggle. BTW, I say Low Priced vs saying Cheap cause makes me feel better. LOL Might add the GSG 1911 is a "I LIKE", feels good, shoots good and accurate , basically reliable (a few hiccups now and then). Anyway, Smoky Mtn Gun & Ammo sent E Mail (get them near daily) on the FIREFLY for $159.99 with TWO MAGS (normally gun comes with one MAG). Don't laugh cause it is a Robin Blue Color Slide (only one on sale, at least it ain't Pink). Actually, I like the look - it's just that it is a bit "girly" looking. I add U-Tube Reviews are not the best (AMMO SENSITIVE) but it is advertised as needing 22LR HV AMMO (think 1250FPS or over is recommended). It does come with am extra Recoil Spring for lower velocity AMMO (not sure that helps and I have not tried it). So far so good, cleaned and lubricated before the first shoot where I ran 4 different AMMOS (Remington Golden Bullet, only had 20 rounds of that, and Remington Thunderbolt, Federal AM Eagle, and Blazer (made by Spear, CCI)). All worked OK in my mind, but did have three Fail To Fire (one with the Federal three trigger pulls that fired later when I inserted the round rotated to a different angle) and two Remington Thunderbolts (fired on the second trigger pull). The gun is single or double action, has a hammer release, slide safety, and easy breakdown lever. Trigger pull is heavy double (I think advertised as around 11 or 12 lbs and around 7 lbs single action). I am not as accurate with it as the GSG 1911 (say 3 or 4 inch circle at 30 feet). FIREFLY might need a bit of sight adjustment as seem to get a bit left of target (but also get some on target. BTW, I am not a 1 inch circle shooter at 30 feet, more like 4 inch circle (maybe 3 inch at my best). ANYWAY, main thing is so far I am satisfied at $159.99 with two MAGS.
  7. I'm not sure how I missed this. Are the rest of you aware that Glock has made Blue Label pricing available to veterans? In my case it was about a 20% discount. Certainly enough to push me over the edge on that little 43X I've been eyeballing. https://us.glock.com/en/buy/blue-label-program
  8. Call me weird, but I really DO like oddball stuff. Is anyone else here a big fan or collector of the 'unreliable-yet-loveable'? Reason I ask, is that tomorrow morning I'm going to pick up a dream gun. A pistol I've been fantasizing about for nearly 10 years. It's absolutely SLATED online by 8:10 owners, but I don't care. I saw my first one in September 2009 & I've been looking for one ever since. It's an early model, SAO, AMT Backup .380 I know they're terrible carry pieces with all the reliability of a Jennings & a little more weight than a full size 1911, but something about it spoke to me the first time I ever set eyes on one at my friend's house in Florida. The full stainless construction, minimal sights, heel-release 5 round magazine, 1911 styling with the polished slide..........I know, I absolutely know, it probably won't get through a full mag without an issue or failure, but dammit, it's such a nice looking little thing. Anyone else got a shameful secret love? There must be someone else out there with a Jiminez they'd never carry, but never ever sell........ (Stock photo, but I'm going to be sleepless tonight, waiting to get one!)
  9. Over the last couple of weeks I have I have been able to pick up some nice revolvers. I got two Colt SAA's in .45 and a USFA in .44 special. The blued Colt is 1978 and the nickel Colt is either end of 1978 or beginning of 1979. Have not looked up the USFA yet. I love me some cowboy guns.
  10. Lucky me! I was given on old revolver today. Does anyone have the info on how to find out when this Colt revolver was made by the serial number?
  11. So me and a few friends was having a discussion the other day and one showed me his newly traded 19x he got from a individual. He was carry it in a iwb holster concealed. I asked if that was allowed in Tennessee and he said he looked but could find anything saying it was illegal. So I guess my question is can your ccw be unregistered in Tennessee?

    Glock 48

Picked up one about a month ago and like it. Had Truglo H3 sights put on it. It had a 7 to 7.5 pound trigger and the rough Glock trigger face. Well this is the first Glock I have decided to mod. I used fine wet/dry paper to smooth the trigger face and make the trigger safety lever even with the trigger when the trigger is pulled. I polished the metal internals with 500/1000/2000 grit polish compound and polishing wheell . The polishing dropped the trigger pull down about a pound due to removing some very rough edges. You will get rough edges on stamped metal. I then replaced the striker spring with a Ghost INC. 4.5 pound spring and the safety plunger spring with a Ghost INC. reduced power spring. This reduce the pull down to 4.5 pounds. This is the best and cheapest way to reduce the trigger pull. All this cost me $10.23 for the Ghost springs and has given me a good trigger and is much easier for me to shoot accurately. I have shot the pistol after each mod to see what improved and what needs more improvement. I have gotten to the point where I am very happy with this pistol for carry. I now have about 1,450 rounds thru it.
  13. as of 8/1/19 what is the current status of using a Sig brace on an AK or AR pistol? I heard it had be reversed to illegal class III status?
  14. Hey guys I have the chance to possibly trade a p365 I have for a vp9sk. What’s your thoughts on this for you guys that have shot or own both? I like my sig and I like the looks and ergonomics of the vp9sk. Let me know what ya think
  15. I have a Smith and Wesson model 36. It is a great little 5 shot snubby. What's the biggest complaint from people after they shoot a snub nosed 38. "It's too snappy!" Enter the Pitbull 380. A six shot cylinder, three inch barrel and the patented ejector for ACP casings, plus the 380 has comparable ballistics to the 38. That was my justification for buying one any how. I picked it up this morning and had a chance to run a few rounds through it. I was surprised at how smooth the DA trigger pull was and the cylinder gap is next to nothing. The lock up could have been a little tighter but it is within my tolerance. The first shot I thought was a squib accept for the hole in the target. No recoil! It sounded kind of muffled too. Once I got the front site picture right I was able to make one jagged hole at around 5 yards in single action and keeping a nice saucer size group in double action. The recoil was so low I could crank out 6 rounds quicker than I could fire 3 rounds from my 38 special. I just cannot believe that this little low recoil puppy has similar stopping power to my 38 special but I have it loaded with 380 +P and will start carrying it. 380 +P, that sounds ridicules. Kind of like a .22 short magnum. My hope is that my wife will be able to trade in her 22 and use this little pitpuppy but I might just keep it myself. I have always wanted a Charter Arms wheel gun.
  16. Anybody got one or shot one? If so how you like it?
  17. Just got me a new 2.0 M&P . Great gun but the grip is really abrasive . What have you M&P 2.0 owners did if you encounter this ? I hate to sand it down right off the bat .
  18. Apex Tactical Specialties has released their Heavy Duty Striker for the FN 509 series of handguns. Pre-ordering is available as of this writing. https://store.apextactical.com/WebDirect/Products/Details/193350 The Apex Heavy Duty Striker for the FN 509, FNS and FNS Compact is a direct drop-in replacement option for customers with FN 509 and FNS series pistols. The striker is machined from a billet of stainless steel and heat treated for enhanced durability. But Why? Unfortunately the FN 509 uses an MIM (metal injection molding) striker which has been known to break, particularly with repeated dry-firing. FN recommends that dry-fire be done with snap caps only and never with an empty chamber, for this reason. Many other striker fired handguns have no such problems. Savvy FN 509 owners have been known to source the cast steel striker from FNS model handguns, which is identical albeit not manufactured via MIM, but supply of those can be difficult to find. This new Apex billet striker should solve both any reliability concerns as well as address sourcing problems of finding FNS strikers.
  19. I've been looking at aftermarket barrels for a S&W M&P 9c (1.0 version with a 3.5" barrel), that I recently bought. Some barrels are a 1:10 twist, but I noticed that Storm Lake offers their barrel with a 1:16 twist. Can anyone tell me why a slower twist might be preferred to the 1:10 twist in the shorter barrel? Thanks in advance.
  20. Can't account for my fascination with retrievers. Bond Arms' look great but also look stupid expensive. Could buy a pocket Sig or Colt for that. The other choices have been $100 - $125 and look suspect. Well, now Bond has released the Goldilocks Rough series for ~$260. I searched and found nothing about shooting the little beast. How rough is the recoil of the .45/.410? I like 1911 .45s, I don't mind .41 Mag with the right grip shape or a Contender in 7-30 Waters, but draw the line below .30-30.

  23. I have a G21 Standard and G30 standard. My hands are normal size but I never considered the newer SF versions. I found a G21SF for pretty cheap and not fired and jumped on it. WOW it is very noticeable once you wrap your fingers around the grip. I listed a picture of the 21 Standard and the 21SF together . For some reason Glock took the SF designation off of the frame near the dustcover and put it on the area where it shows Made in Austria. To me its one of the softest shooting 45ACP pistols there is.
  24. This am, I ordered a new gun I've been wanting for a while. Walther PPS M2 RSMc 9mm. Has a Shield red dot sight with 4MOA dot. Should be here Thurs. or Fri. Anxious to say the least. Got zeroing to do. Sights co-witness with the iron sights, if needed. The dot stays on all the time & adjusts for light. We'll see how it goes, will take some getting used to. My old eyes, and tri-focal glasses, will, I think work better than with iron sights. Ordered from Lebanon Gun Shop, on Hartman Dr.
