Reasons I love Halloween:
There's not social requirement to see relatives unless you actually want to.
A fancy meal means that there's chili for the hot dogs. 
Costumes
Candy 
Kids
And general silliness rules the day!

We had a dozens of trick or treaters. As usual my job is to hide in the garage with the dogs and play music to drown out the sound of intruders. My wife gets all the fun of handing out candy.

We have had maybe 3 or 4 tricker treaters in 40+ years.  We moved from a house with a 500 foot drive going back into a spooky woods on a back road to a 1200 foot drive on a dead end country road but woods is not as spooky but it is all up hill. I figure if someone is brave enough to show up, I'll share my normal stash.
