I am looking at buying a van from Ga. Is there any precautions I need to be aware of.

I am taking a cashiers check. And the guy has the title, I will make sure the guy selling is on the title.

Anything else you can think of?

Im just a little nervous buying out of state.

Check carfax to make sure your not buying a salvage titled vehicle. You will need the VIN in advance and I would verify the VIN in person. Prepare to pay the tax on the sales price when you register the vehicle.

Carfax...check

Title matches vehicle and no leins on title....check

Owner proves he is the same as on the title....check

Owner willing to let you take van to a nearby(to him) shop to have it inspected....check (ask even if you dont plan on doing it...should give you a good feel for the guy)

Owner signs the back of title exactly how its printed on the front...check

All those go well you should be fine.

What about a tag to drive it home?

I think you can go to the local DMV and get a temporary tag. I'd guess most LEO's would be understanding if you get stopped driving w/o one and have all the sale paperwork. I wouldn't use a tag off another vehicle.

The TN Dept. of Revenue is the agency who does this. They issue the red temp tags (look just like the green ones you get at the car dealership, but they're red). I'm not sure if you can get one before you get the car, but I know you can get one once you buy the car and are waiting for paperwork to go through.

Department of Revenue

I know they have an office on Appling Rd in Bartlett. Check their website above. May have more info useful to you.

Best of luck!
