If you could only have one handgun......

This may have been discussed earlier, but I looked way back and didn't see it. If you could only have one handgun, which one would it be? It would have to be your carry gun, range gun, and home protection gun. Let's keep the price under 1K. To me a lot of thought would have to go into the decision. For instance, a lightweight, small gun would be nice to carry, but would it be comfortable for a session at the range? Which one and what caliber would you choose? Thanks.:D:)

I'll stick with the one I already own. A S&W .45ACP model 4506-1. While it is on the large side, I can carry it fairly comfortable, love the .45 round to begin with and it is just plain awesome to fire at the range.:D

Personally, I don't think you can go wrong with a Beretta 92FS. Not only is it a good full size firearm, they perform flawlessly. Ask Mars, he has carried one in more places than you and I would care to even think about. It is reasonably priced (around $500.) It can be concealed with relative ease though wearing that extra shirt in the summer might be a little warm I would rather sweat then be dead. It is a good home gun as it has a manual safety and can be activated very quickly but can also be kept around little hands. 9mm is cheap to shoot. More range time means better accuracy means more comfort with the gun should something happen while firing.

I own a G19 and I like it for carry. I own an XD-9 but I haven't shot it yet so I don't know about it for a carry/home protection. I had a 1911, but I didn't like the expense of shooting it for proficiency.

I will assume this means one gun for the rest of time, so with that I will stick with my Ruger SP-101 and .357 mags. I do not think it will ever break, not so sure about auto loaders.

MLTN, that is cheating, lol one gun but kind of like having two, not in the spirit of this argument.

I've asked myself this question so many times, and I can never seem to boil it down to one. What I own, I see the advantages in each of them for their proper application, time of year use. I prefer .45 in the winter, with heavier clothing to penetrate, and 9mm in summer. That being said...

I would have a hard time taking it to any less than my Glock 17 and Colt LW Commander. If I absolutely had to, the Colt would probably win.

(Man, that Glock sure feels good...) AARRGGHH!!! :D

Tough Question. I like the Rabbi's Model 19 suggestion, but I'm not big on those "gutter" sights at the range. Then again a 686 would worry me that the adjustable sights would catch on clothing. My nightstand 4566 is too heavy to carry, 1911's too big. The snubs aren't as much fun at the range. Aargh. OK, a PX4 Storm Compact .40. Just shot one at the range last week, fine gun.

I'd probably go with my Glock 23, seems to be a good balance for self defense, range, and carry. But then again...I really like my M&P .45 and my SP101 so......yeah I guess considering all things I'd go with the G23.
