Police Video - Watch until the end

This is a great example of seeing "the other side of the story". From the angle that the news cameras capture it really looks like there is an unprovoked beating. However, watch until the end of the video to see how it all started. This video is a great example of how we are often too quick make a judgement without all the facts. Things are not always the way they appear at first glance.

Very interesting. I guess I kind of like the way the news story was done. After showing only the second half of the incident, you get all the sidewalk pundits commenting on how the police should have "talked to the guy." If it wasn't for the home video, this would have looked like clear police brutality to most. I always wonder how these "you should have talked to him" types would have really handled the situation if they were in the officer's shoes.

Down on Knees, hands behind back, head down, saying you have all I got please, please don't hurt me. That should cover it.

The guy was drunk and unruly. I don't know how this compares to the guy who died, in the other thread.

Diablo, if you think there are a bunch of cop haters around here, you're wrong. There are times when cops

make mistaken judgements which lead to bad results and don't deserve a pass. Don't confuse this with

good police work.

I do wonder how much beating it takes and it may not be so cut and dry.

I don't care who you are but if you reach for a cop's weapon you show an intent to kill and should be put down and put down hard. In my opinion this guy was lucky to make it out of there with just a beating. So what if there seemed to be a couple extra whacks after he was down. The officers are clearly aiming for the appropriate spots like thighs and shoulders and I honestly applaud them for showing the amount of restraint they did considering the supsect's amount of resistance and previous grab for the weapon.

Couldn't help but notice the woman anchor's lead in: "Stockton Police used strong-arm tactics" Kinda set it up to be about a "victim" not a "perp". Then they show the second half and interview witnesses to the arrest before you show the start of the confrontation. He was resisiting and tried to take a policeman's weapon!! The TV reporters didn't follow up to find out he's a parole--not exactly an upstanding guy. That's why I don't watch the news and carefully screen wat I read.

Thanks Roadkill I could not have said it any better! What kind of butthole would reach for a LEO weapon?

I don't think this board is full of cop-haters. My issue has always been when there is a rush to judgement without looking at both sides of any issue. Yes, some of the articles/comments might have gotten under my skin because I felt SOME of the comments were uninformed. I agree cops do misbehave, I've seen it firsthand. But I also believe its not as widespread as the media reports. Even this news report uses inflammatory wording to make the cops look like villians. Why is it the "Stockton PD beating", instead of "Parolee grabs cops gun"?

For the record, I feel I've seen enough of the Kelly beating to be sickened, and I'm glad the officers will be brought to trial.

All the training I had said if someone is trying to take your weapon deadly force is authorized because that is their intention if they get it. With that being said anything shy of deadly force in an incident where someone is trying to take a weapon should be viewed as being justified.

If the bad guy takes a trip to the hospital and has to stay a while he deserved it for trying to take an officer's weapon.

I'm glad to hear that. I agree. There usually is a rush to judgement and the media tends to color people's judgement

intentionally, to meet an agenda. I don't like to pass judgement. Glad we agree :D
