You must've told him something he didn't want to hear.

Sorry....

I don't want to see anyone get into trouble that can be avoided!

Maybe he'll come back and be a valued member of our TGO community.

I understand that you can't hunt coyotes at night but am I correct that I can kill coyotes at any time when I'm protecting my livestock?

Yes, there is a difference. You are allowed to protect yourself, your pets and your livestock.

twra will still arrest you ask me how i know .i didnt get convected and i dont think that twra officer will arrest anyone else for portecting their livestock

Shouldn't have been a problem. There is a difference between the two, but as with many other things involving wildlife laws, it's up to the officers interpretation.

Yea I was asking because I have cows and the coyotes have been getting pretty close.. I have never seen em in the morning or afternoon, I just hear them at night and they sound close. The cattle and my lab go nuts when there near.. So id say I was protecting the livestock

Talked to local TWRA officer several months ago. Had a couple instances whwere a pack of five went after one of our small horses. Officer said was no problem protecting livestock. The yotes are often attracted by newborn calves, the afterbirth pulls them in. Neighbor lost a couple calves. I have taken 2 in the last year and neighbor 3. Have not seen any activity in last 6 months or so, but do hear them off in the distance. Couple of red foxes seen early AM often , but they are dont bother so we don't bother them.

Sounds like you are fine, if you want to CYA call up the game warden and explain the situation to him and get his approval, although you really don't need his approval to protect your livestock it might save you a lot of trouble down the road.

Shooting the predator while he is in the act of "stalking or chasing" your livestock is one thing, but remember when you go into the woods or away from your livestock to "stalk or hunt" the predator, that is hunting. Again interpretation.

well it was about 100 in the morning and the closest gun to me was full auto the sheriffs office was called by a someone it went downhill from there

There's just something great about that. Maybe it's the fact that your handiest weapon was FA, maybe it's that you jumped up and used it. Maybevits just the image of someone chasing yotes at one in the am, with a FA something.

Great story, shame Johnny Law had to spoil your evening.
