TN Bill to remove restrictions on knife possession and carry

We need to pick two or 3 prominent Republicans and make examples of them. Preferably ones who feel VERY secure in their positions. A very public election loss for such people engineered by those who they feel should be supporting them would go a long way to making the other sit up and pay attention.

Nope.  From there to the Finance, Ways and Means Committee and then it should go to the Calendar Committee for a full house vote.

CORRECT!

Could you persuade the legislature to remove the whole intent to go armed felony offense for knives at schools?

This is a different issue and needs to be a different bill.  Maybe we could focus on that next year.

But for now, lets stick to the bill we have that is making progress and support it fully.

What you said!  We have a good bill.  We need to get this bill passed.  We need to focus on that, becuase we still have to get it through Finance Ways and Means sub-committee and full committee and then the full House, without adverse amendments from the floor, which is another fight.  Our lobbyist spent most of this week in the Capitol working on this and will be back.  Please, write when we ask, be polite and clear when you write, and with your help and support we will get this done.  Thanks!

If you help persuade them this year to pass this bill, perhaps next year that can be the focus in TN, but for now all efforts need to be on getting this through and signed into law.  One step at a time.

Ok guys I am headed back to Nashville this week. Looks like I will be there from Monday night until Thursday morning. The hearing is Wednesday. I have not decided yet whether I will testify or not. Don't be worried if I do not testify, sometimes it's best to be quiet and allow things to unfold. So far I like our chances in the budget sub committee.

The chairman agreed to hear the bill and not roll it till next week because he knew I came in from AZ. Thanks for everyone's support. Please email the full finance committee and ask them to support HB1883!

The Tennessee House Finance, Ways & Means Subcommittee has passed HB1883 on a voice vote. HB1883 now moves to the full House Finance, Ways & Means Committee. We need you to EMAIL or CALL the committee members TODAY! HB1883 is the companion bill to SB1771 and would repeal the antiquated ban on switchblade (automatic) knives and possession of knives over four inches in length "with intent to go armed," a vague law subject to abuse.

If you live, work or travel in Tennessee, please contact the Committee Members listed below and ask them to vote in favor of HB1883. If one of them is your Representative, then emphasize that fact when you call or email. You can find your Representative here: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/

If you live, work or travel in Tennessee, please contact the Committee Members listed below and ask them to vote in favor of HB1883 (for those wanting just a list of all Committee member email, for a bulk send, it follows this list). If one of them is your Representative, then emphasize that fact when you call or email. You can find your Representative here: http://www.capitol.tn.gov/legislators/

Whether writing or calling, all that is necessary is to simply ask that they vote YES on HB1883. That's it, keep it short and to the point.
