Cut the bushes or put something nasty in there...

How come the cops did not find it when they came out? Are you saying the thug came back?

Sounds like a gas thief to me. Thats big time on the rise these days.

The cops never got out of there car. And they didn't even goto where I said the guy was standing, they just drove up and down the road with there lights off. Never came back to let me know anything. But about 10 minutes after they drove by my house, I hard them turn on their sirens and drove far away from my house. I'm guessing a more importing matter came up. But I'm sure buy this time this guy was long gone. And the gas can was empty.

This should provide the police with finger prints that are on the gas can. From the description, it appears that he was siphoning gas.

I called the sheriff dept. and told them about the gas can, they said they will send someone out to take a look at it, well that was this afternoon and they still haven't showed up...

I doubt they'll even take fingerprints from the can. They will say they have bigger fish to fry than finding someone who may not have even been able to commit the crime.

My son had his car broken into and his several hundred $$ stereo stolen. I pointed out a very prominient greasy fingerprint on the trunk lid, at which the cop looked at it and said "Hmm" and moved along.

I don't think they do fingerprints much anymore. Probably eats into their budget somehow.

I think a lot of this depends on the size of the department.

I'm sure the larger departments in the state investigate more of the "lesser" crimes. ..and are able to do more like taking fingerprints.

However many of the smaller departments do pretty much just take a report on a case like this. They don't take fingerprints. If the only have one investigator (as the county I grew up in does) he only has so much time to do investigations. I had one of the investigators tell me, that he would always spend his time to investigate sexual assault, battery and other crimes against persons, before property crimes, but then even if he had time to investigate property crimes it would be ones in which large amounts of items were stolen or valuable items.

It's not so much that they just don't care as they only have so many resources.....which pretty much just sucks most of the time.

Very True Fallguy. We have one Investigator, and he stays busy. We would take a report on something like this, and the Investigator would come out and take fingerprints when he was able.

Um, no.

Um, yeah.

When I lived in Oak ridge, Somebody slashed about 22 tires up and down my street (Kingsley Road), and down the connector street (Tennessee). As near as I could tell, the total amount of money made it felony vandalism.

The Oak Ridge Polie dept. didn't investigate. But, you could swing by the police station and pick up a copy of the report for your insurance company.

So i drove down to a tire place on 4 flat tires and paid cash for new tires the next day. Didn't even crack a rim.

I got a little miffed and went down there (the police station), called some police NCO incompetent. Asked to see the chief. They asked me to leave. I did. I noticed the next day there was an ad in the paper offering a reward for info on the slashings.

I'm pretty sure with 500 dollars cash, I could have walked into the high school gym during an assembly and offered it up, just point to the guy that did it. I mean, its not like police work is very hard. Who do think was slashing tires by the football stadium? A russian spetsnaz or a high schooler?

You are so smart. You sound like you know everything about Police work. What was your class number? Did you go to TLETA, or a local academy? I usually call people "incompetent" when I am trying to get them to help me. Does that approach work well for you? I am sorry your local "Polie" department is not performing up to your standards. Did anyone see it happen? How are they going to find out who did it? I guess they could go all Vic Mackey on the high school kids, and beat them with a phone book until they confessed. Or you could call in Gus Grissom to run the knife blade patterns on his computer and match it to one that that bastard Joe at Hero Gear:) sold to a hunter, who had it stolen from his car by the high school kid that Vic just beat a confession out of.

I didn't really expect any help. 2 months after the fact, nothing had been done. Nothing. No investigation. I guess we'll never know if anyone saw anything because nobody took any statements.

I did get an ad in the paper I guess, by yelling at some dumbass for 30 minutes one afternoon.

Knife blade patterns in the computer? No, $500 cash for a stoolie would have been my method. I guess we'll never know on that one either.

I dunno about a confession, but a good solid ass whipping on whoever did it would have given me more satisfaction than an arrest.

OK seriously, this thread is not about you and how you hate cops.

you want columbo to come out and investigate YOUR problem...you want them to call in CSI for your tires...please...this seems to be all about YOU...

start a new thread, you will probably find yourself in a bitch fest with the 4 other people on the board that think they can do the job better from their lazy boys...

this thread is about an intruder...not YOU

I think he was more just directly responding to a post that was direct toward him.

But now that we have all said our spill about any "personal" experiences and the like....you are right and let's see if we can keep this back on the original topic....:)

--------------------------------

IMO the easiest way for the police to find the guy is, if it was legal for you to use deadly force to protect your property. Then he'd be right there where you dropped him. ;)

Look at it this way you now are the owner of a new gas can.

Get rid of the bushes or plant some not so nice to ones to be around. Motion lights are good security as already mentioned. Give the dog a treat and keep your gun(s) handy.

i think there was a claymore thread earlier this week, just merge with this one and problem solved. maybe the guy will come back for the gas can and boom.....

besides, stealing gas is soooo last week. Milk is more expensive now, maybe the guy saw a cow walkin by and ran after it.

Oh that made me lol big time!

I have been trying to think of what you can put in that bush but I keep coming back to the though of what happens if your dog goes in it. I would hate to see the dog hurt.

So perhaps I would change my advice to motion lights, chop down the bushes, and/or get a locked gas cap on your cars.

You really hit a point of interest with me on this. This is a prime example that it is OUR duty to protect ourselves. I do know that if a "attempted burg" call comes in to police, that call falls down on the priority list. This would not be considered a burg in progress. Never the less, no matter what the call to the police is (on priority list) ...it is STILL on us to protect ourselves, property, and family. This is the same conversation that I have with people about how "guns are dangerous" and "guns are not allowed in our house"....blah...blah..... ---- who do they call if there is a need for police at their home? And, how long will it take for help to get there?----- I know Rhea Co fairly well (I grew up in Roane co)......and your right, the response will be less than "real fast" due to "on duty cops"..."budget"....etc--- I'm glad you are a GUN Owner and protect what you hold dearest to your heart. Thank you for sharing your story.....I keeps us sharp that this sort of stuff can happen on any one of us our there. God Bless--------

The older I get and the more I have at to really lose (wife, kids, house, etc) the more I believe this. Well said. To paraphrase Winston Churchill, "if at 20 you're not a liberal, you have no heart; if at 40 you're not a conservative, you have no brain."

yeah, we actually gave up on calling the cops at my parents in NY. They live up in the hills, 3 calls over the course of a few years, the average response time was right around 2 hours. The final time they bothered, they actually sent a tow truck instead of a cop....

Dayton and Rhea county police have been far from helpful since I moved here. If you aren't a "good ol boy" who was born and bred here they won't give you the time of day. Where are you located in Dayton. You can PM me with that response. It is good to be prepared to defend yourself here. I know I am.

Glock...sorry to hear about this. He was just some dude waiting to be shot or beaten obviously. What a D.B..

Similar incident with the Sumner county sheriff, only she told me it would be a while till they came to take a statement, I asked if they would come quicker if I shot the dude and hung up...was about 4 minutes and they showed up. I never had to shoot him though.

edit...PS: I do not hate the police or any LEO. I personally think they are severly understaffed for todays criminal environment.
