I know I need proof of having taken the Hunter Ed class with me. Do I need to always have the card from the class on me when hunting, or does the hunting license suffice since it has "Hunter Safety Verified by TWRA" printed on it?

 

 

 

Update: I called the Region 2 office to find out. Operator was unsure but thought I needed to have the card. Waiting on a call-back from someone who will know for sure. I'll post here with the results.

Was always told I had to have it on hand, but have never been asked for it; just license and Id card.

I know hunting migratory game birds requires the shotgun to only be able to hold 3 shells or less. Is there any such capacity limit for centerfire for deer? I didn't find one in the TWRA hunting guide.

Made it out today for my first hunt. Saw a doe, but let her pass. She was on the move and didn't stay still long enough for a good shot. A little small too, so no worries. My hunting buddy asked me a little later if there are any coyotes around there. I said that I suppose there are. About 5 minutes later.......here one comes. I didn't get a deer on my first hunt, but I got this varmint.

Nice, I seen one the first day of rifle but let it pass because I didn't want to spook any deer. Turns out I should of taken the shot since I didn't see a thing after that except my ever present tree rats and a wood chuck which has taken up residence on my property.

We had decided to call it a day if we didn't see anything within the next 45 minutes or so when Wile E. showed up. We figured at that point that we'd better take what we could get. Good thing to. My cousin's (hunting his land) little girl said a coyote was menacing her (she said "he was after me") a couple of days earlier. I hope it was this one.

Yep.  Always figured I'd shoot a 'yote if I saw one while hunting something else, but then there's the classic "dog chasing car" question...  Ok, I got it.  Now what?

My "now what?" was leave it out there for other things to eat. I have no desire to get into skinning/tanning things right now, so it had nor purpose for me. My cousin didn't mind. He does the same thing with them when he can kill em. Just leave em where they fall.

 

Is there something else that I could have/should have done with it? I know I could have taken off the tail as a trophy, but that's something I really don't want hanging around my house for no reason.

Fair enough. I'd like to think that something useful might be done with the pelt (assuming it had a decent looking pelt) but I don't know how much getting it tanned would cost. I wouldn't want to spend much on it.
