Going to be a very 'interesting' four years. Congressional seats come up again in two years and if the O has ****ed things up, as it looks like he will, that is the time to take power back.

Well GW and his republican servants pretty much screwed us up. I Can't say that I'm over joyed about Obama, but I think you closed minded folks ought to at least give him a chance to try and work us out of this mess, he may just surprize us all. Of course you could always move to another part of the world in stead.

The only way that would happen is for him to buy his own slogan, "Change". His ideology is not new nor untried. In fact it is the opposite. It is an old ideology that keeps getting dragged from the grave of failure and death in hopes that this time when the dust is blown off it will work. I can almost guarantee with certainty what will happen as has been mentioned numerous times, ala Jimmy Carter. This can only be exciting for Carter, who now has a chance not to be the worst president.

The only one closed minded is the one who can't read about or remember the historical precedents for his "Change" and see the miserable failure that it has always been no matter what angle it was approached from. Of course it is these same apologist, who have swallowed the toxic Bush hate pill, that will still blame Bush when Obama fails.

My hope is not that he will surprise us, but more realistically that he will be such a poor politician he won't get anything done and once again America will realize that it is individual freedom, initiative, and ingenuity that drives this country to success. Not the country that drives it's people to success.

You know it is bad when you wake up almost sick to your stomach 2 hours before your alarm, and this is just day +1 of the start of our failing nation. I plan on saving screenshots of websites and news articles so that once the country starts to plummet, I can bring those back and say, you were mighty glad to elect him now, so quit your bitching about the way things are. I for one hope that the media pulls itself out of Obamas ass and lets out all of the stories they have been suppressing such as oh if he is an actual US citizen, how he really ties in with known terrorists (Ayers), How he really plans on paying for the programs he is suggesting etc. I know it probably won't happen, but aren't we suppsosed to believe in the word HOPE now?

You can HOPE for euphoria all you want, but when the drug wears off reality is harder than before. False is hope is worse than despair, because it takes you to the highest floor and then gently nudges you off!

Think about the movie Independence Day when the morons are all celebrating on the rooftops and the light of their joy and hope shines on them..... right before it obliterates the entire city....... yeah, I see parallels. :usa:

2010 is mostly the GOP seats up for grabs. Dont be banking on 2010 because chances are that the GOP will lose even more ground just based on the fact that they have more seats in play.

We have at least 4 years of this and the damage done with an unchecked DNC will be permanet and devistating. Chances are that they will strengthen the means of how they got into power and make it that much more difficult for the GOP to regain power.

Check Mate. :usa:

guys were not in as bad a shape as you might think. As long as they dont have a filibuster proof majority, were pretty good to go. I think it would be political suicide for them to go after any gun control aggressivly. Were in great shape in this state... winning the majority in both houses... will mean Naife will probably be gone meaning more positive gun legislation in this state.

I say hunker down, buy what you really want just in case... and wait 2 years.

Closed-minded, hmm?

I don't like dead babies.

I don't like the homosexual agenda.

I don't like the far-left liberal agenda.

I don't like government-sponsored socialism.

I DO like my gun rights.

On those issues alone, there's nothing to "try."

Guys, all we can do as Americans is keep fighting the good (and legal) fight for individual rights under the Constitution.

No president has yet been elected that has not had a significant portion of the population totally against some part of his platform.

Even though I am a total pessimist about the future of America (and the rest of the world), it has little to do with the impact of one man or party for a 4-8 year duration.

I for one sincerely hope that in ways we can't yet foresee, Barack Obama will be deemed one of our greatest presidents and will somehow bring all Americans' hearts and minds closer together rather than further apart.

Brilliant post, imo - and I agree completely!

I'm going to stand behind Obama as my president until/unless he tries to take away my inalienable rights. He's starting with a clean slate but will be under scrutiny...

I am waiting for the birth certificate to resolve itself. As far as I know he hasn't provided a valid one. I admit I haven't been glued politics the last few days. What happens then?

He isn't sworn in yet.Billary may still have a trick or two up her sleeve to whack him with.

I think it is possible that Obammie the Commie could push the Supreme Court nominations to the Klintons.

Sheesh! Ain't I just a bundle of love and good news this A.M.?

I will not recognize him as my President as he is against everything my grandfather, uncles and one aunt fought for!

Yup!

So it isn't a matter of a closed mind for me (and many others, I suspect) it is a sincere matter of conscience. Selling my soul for a (potentially) good economy doesn't sound so great to me.

Well said Nate and this is the approach a lot of my friends are taking especially those who live in the political arena.

We will rally and come back in the mid-terms and in 2012.

Although along the way, it could be rough with the tax issues and social programs.

Let me say first and foremost that I am grateful for your service to and sacrifices for this country. As a Marine, you have my gratitude and my admiration.

But when it comes to moving to another country, there are plenty in this world that already provide a socialist government to those who wish to live under such. There is no reason for us to move there when you could. I would happily buy you a one way airline ticket to any of them provided you agree to stay there and become an ex-pat.

Me? I'm going to stay here and fight for the country that I love. I am not ready to see it become Europeanized and will do everything within my power as a citizen and a patriot to fight against this new brand of socialism disguised as Progressivism.

Once upon a time you took an oath to defend our Constitution. Now, the man who somehow managed to be elected yesterday, and his regime of "Change" will begin dismantling and castrating it right before your eyes. I'm surprised that sits well with you.

God have mercy on us all.

Yeah I just vomited a little when you put it in those terms. :drama:

Sorry!:D

I would like to keep my soul, also!

I am not looking forward to more taxes to pay for their socialism, either.

My wife and I have been set back by a few MAJOR hits that we took in the last 3 yrs. trying to start a small business.

We wouldn't need to have any employees except me full-time and her whenever she needed/wanted to pitch in.

I am afraid now that we will be taxed so much that we will close shop before we get open.

I am being a pessimist this morning.

I have to keep telling myself that God is in control and he has a plan.

Hmmm, maybe this has caused more people to start praying up more fervently!

Those here that don't believe in a higher power should hear my story. I should be dead a few times over. I will be more than happy to tell in person as typing it in don't get it.

Yeah, well, if he does, this would be a fantastic time for the second coming. Come, Lord Jesus, quickly come. :D

Don't forget there's free will and the existence of evil to skew things. But I'll try to side with you, realizing that God can and does work freely and efficiently even through our amazing screw-ups. :drama:

Scary thought here about that birth certificate issue. If it's proven he is not a natural born citizen, does everyone step up? Biden to Prez, Pelosi to VEEP? OR, would there be a re-election? (asking this last one, knowing its unlikely)

Very well stated. Disguising socialism in the costume of progressivism is exactly what he is about. The sad part is that due to the fact that he presents a good appearance and can speak well and is against Bush, he has been elected.

My parents and family are from Germany, and although there is a lot of good there, the socialistic ideas are nothing I care to have to deal with. Why people can't figure out that socialism doesn't' work is beyond me. It flies in the face of human nature. Their income tax rate is just over 50%. That's right, 50%. I was in Germany in April and can verify this. There tax rate is so high because of all of the social handout programs they have.

Obama isn't stupid enough to overtly make open changes to gun control. What he will do is to get other congressman to introduce bills little by little that will end up being law, and putting in place liberal judges at the federal level that will erode our rights a little at at time. He doesn't even have to make or pass any laws at all. He only has to put liberal judges in place who will legislate from the bench.

I was VERY glad to see that the Dems didn't win a supermajority. It isn't good when either party can rubber stamp things.

The problem as I see it is that by electing a person like Obama as president, this country is merely getting what it has asked for. And the consequences could be far reaching.

I also however know that God is in control. It was Nebuchadnezzar, the ruler of the known world at that time, who lost his mind for 7 years until he realized who is on the throne.

Amendment XX, Section 3

Section 3. If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President. If a President shall not have been chosen before the time fixed for the beginning of his term, or if the President elect shall have failed to qualify, then the Vice President elect shall act as President until a President shall have qualified; and the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected, and such person shall act accordingly until a President or Vice President shall have qualified.

Short answer: Biden would become President until the Dems can put forward a candidate who actually is qualified to be President. Probably Hillary. I think Biden would then step down to being VP, as he was elected to do. At least that's my understanding from reading the applicable sections and amendments to the constitution. But I'm not a constitutional law professor, so I'm not positive.

As is probably no surprise to the majority here, I take a much different view of the events of yesterday -they were simply historic and positive.

The mood of most of the people I know off-board is simply that of unmitigated joy and relief. I forsee none of the doomsday scenarios outlined here, although the economy will be in for a rough ride for a while -but that would have been the case regardless of who the President is or will be.

I am more optimisitic than many here and I certainly hope we all sit back, watch, and participate in our government over the next several years and see what really happens, and then compare such with the predictions made. I for one can't wait, and I for one don't anticipate impending doom or the burning of the constituion. I especially look forward to us resuming our place as a respected leader in the community of nations. Having a couple of billion fewer people hating our guts will improve our national security and our economy, plus give us additional leverage in getting things done globally.

One sad outcome of this election will be Sen. McCain's now very difficult re-election in 2010. He'll undoubtedly face the incumbent Democratic Governor of Arizona, arguably the second most popular governor in the nation. Not the best way to end 3+ decades of honorable public service.

I went out on Monday and bought a new American flag. The one flying from my house was getting faded. I bought a top-of-the-line flag, with non-fade colors and hand-stiched stars. I thought it most appropriate to have a fresh flag flying. One where the colors never will run. That's the kind of flag we need, the kind I now have, and the kind I firmly believe will fly over the White House in January.

To Senator McCain: :hat:

To the United States: :usa:
