TGO Upper build - help

Recommended Posts

I'm finally getting around to building my CMT TGO upper. It's the first upper I'll ever build and would like some help as the last thing I want to do is screw up this one since I can't just go get another one. Anyone in the middle TN area willing to show this n00b how it's done? I have all of the parts and an AR-15 wrench (well, D3vo has one and I'll borrow it) but I don't have a vise block.

I can come by and help. I have a vise block too

What type of forearm are you using. Standard drop in or free float? Edited by Lumber_Jack

I'm in East Nashville. Don't have a front sight block, but I've got an upper receiver block and bench vice. Also have wrenches so you won't have to borrow one.

Free float. It's a Samson Evolution using a standard barrel nut.

Do you have the special vise block needed for the TGO uppers? The clamshell ones apparently don't work, but the ones with the pins do.

If you want to drive all the way to Lafayette, I'll be glad to help. Sounds like other guys are closer.

I'm all thumbs, but managed to fabricate a working rifle from a TGO receiver set. You'll do great.

I'd advise you to pick up a dust cover pin with the c clip already installed.

If things don't work out with Jeff let me know since I'm a couple of minutes away.    I have the vise block you posted but I also have the Magpul BEV Block just itching to be used since I don't have any builds going since I got it as a gift.

The great thing about the BEV block is it takes all the stress off the upper.   The link I previously posted is below.

Yes I have the block that pins to take down holes. I built a TGO set and bought it then

Edit: just saw Jeff is gonna help you out. Let me know of you need anything. I'm not far away Edited by Lumber_Jack

A big +1 to Trekbike and JeffL for helping out with this. I have a couple of more things to do on it tonight and it will be done. I'll get some pics up as soon as it's ready.

If you need any AR tools in the future (yeah, you'll be doing this again - ask me how I know) just let me know. I'm in Bellevue just across the "main" road from your neighborhood.
