East/Middle TN Hiking

Recommended Posts

The wife and I have been thinking about heading out East to do some hiking and check out some waterfalls.  We're thinking we'll stay in Cookeville since it's close to Burgess Falls and a couple of the other ones we want to check out.  Are there any areas we need to avoid in Cookeville?  We've only passed thru and never really stopped for any length of time to get a feel for the area.  Anything else worth seeing since we'll be there 2-3 days?

Fall Creek Falls is on the list to check out.  This will be our first year hiking with a little one in tow so we will probably have to change the types of trails we're used to doing.

I loved Fall Creek Falls.  Y'all will too.

Do you think you'll venture to Big South Fork? If so let me know and I'll recommend a few hikes. I haven't spent any time around Cookeville but that entire region of the Cumberland Plateau is really nice. Pick a spot on the map and you'll find a good place to go.

South Fork is nice. I enjoyed the time we spent at Rugby, it was pretty neat.

A little further East, but we recently hiked Frozen Head State Park, and it was enjoyed by all. My youngest is 9, but the trails were well maintained and not too steep, easy for wee one's.
