Question about flare guns

Is a flare gun considered a firearm?  Would it be legal to carry a flare gun loaded with a flare?

 

I am not planning on doing this.  My dad found one of our flare guns that we used to have on a boat we fished from.  We got tp talking about it and were just wondering.

I don't know but they sure have ended many desperate situations in the movies.

What kind of oomph does flare have?

I've used one when traveling to states that don't recognize our HCP to lock my luggage on commercial airlines. So at least airlines consider them firearms.

It’s not a firearm in this state as far as possession goes; but I have heard it is in some states. I don’t know for sure which ones though. If I remember right there is something about 10GA vs. 12 and the ability to shoot a shotgun shell; with the ATF.

No such thing as a flare gun
Just flare launchers or signaling devices .... Now if you put something else in them they can magically turn into a destructive device....

And if it is used in an "offensive" manner towards another it magically becomes a DD, even if only flares are used. Don't get caught with sub-caliber devices capable of firing lethal projectiles, that makes it an AOW.

Flares are just not worth it, I prefer tracers.

I bought a surplus Polish flare gun a few years ago when they were selling for 20 bucks. Didn't really know what I'd do with it, but for the price thought it would be a nice piece. It's actually very well made with a nice blued finish. I bought some 26.5mm flares for it at the creek, and they will put a whammy on your wrist.
