That's what it looks like

Gotta hand it to Taurus for at least keeping their catalogue filled with a diverse range of products, and new ones all the time... I can't say that I would buy another Taurus, but they have been impressing me of late, especially with the 24/7 and the 1911. I don't see any reason to choose the 908 over, say, an FNP-9 however...

IDPA - Will It Get You Killed?

Good read, thanks! I agree that I would never approach a real situation in the same way which I would IDPA, and anyone who did would probably regret the outcome. -
What caliber uppers will fit my current .223 AR-15 lower?
molonlabetn replied to shaftbass's topic in Long Guns
They make .50bmg single-shot uppers, too... Pretty much any caliber you can think of has been made to fit and function in an AR. 6.5 Grendel, .243 WSSM, and .25 WSSM would probably be the best options, since the really big calibers such as .45 Bushmaster, .458 Socom, and .50 Beowulf won't shoot flat enough to be good long-range choices... and anything less would put you in the same category as the .223 you already have. -
An AK-74 is basically the same thing as an AKM, in 5.45x39mm, with the improvements you noted. The AKM was an updated version of the AK-47. .223 AKs go by another designation (AK-101, I believe) not AK-74... they are all 5.45x39. Magazines for 5.45, .223, and 7.62 AKs are all different for sure, are not interchangeable, and probably all fit different magwells, too.

Hexagonal rifling is polygonal rifling, simply specifying the number of sides (six). .45 caliber Glocks have 8-sided 'polygonal' rifling, however, making them technically 'octagonal' rifling. Niether is compatible with shooting large amounts of lead bullets, due to pressure problems when leading occurs. This has really only been noted in Glocks, to my knowledge, since they have problems with the pressure safety-factor of their barrels even with jacketed ammo in certain calibers. But, in small quantities... with proper cleaning... it shouldn't be a concern for any pistol. The disclaimer is just CYA against the token idiot who decides to shoot a case of the stuff through his Glock without brushing the barrel at a few intervals, and subsequently has a case rupture in his face.

Why choose an AR for Self Defense?

I'll be on my roof. BYOB -
If it's not loaded, I can't find any reason for it to be illegal... thing is, I'm pretty sure that even if just the magazine is loaded, and in your possession (not inserted), the gun is considered loaded. I have no doubt that it'd draw attention, depending on your locale.

Documentaries, man... they are documentaries. Don't let anybody tell you it's not real! -
Locksmith? If you have a bill-of-sale to prove it's yours, that would be the most sure option. Otherwise, drill it.

Why choose an AR for Self Defense?

AR rifles can do just about anything in close quarters that a shotgun can, except perhaps breach a door. Plus, you can suppress an AR for indoor use... Also, the ammunition is far more compact, often cheaper, and the gun itself is lighter and easier to control than a shotgun. That said, I am very comfortable with my shotgun as a HD weapon... the advantage there is simply versatility by being able to fire many different types of ammunition (bird-shot, buck-shot, slugs, etc...). Still, if you can get one, there is no downside to having an AR on hand. It's simply another tool in the toolbox. I'd say get one sooner rather than later. I plan to have another one within 6 months or so. -
The best option would be to have a place to do it which will catch the discharge... such as a barrel of sand for clearing, or whatever else may be convenient or attractive

Unless a wave of energy propagates outwards from the site, our annihilation by a micro black hole would theoretically take forever, from our perspective, as we approach the event horizon... I think the only part that will really suck is the violent acceleration and, of course, being cooked by x-rays for eternity... Of course, with our luck... the most likely scenario is that they will destroy the earth's magnetic field, and we'll have to send a team of bad actors to the center of the earth to restart the core, meanwhile the French particle-accelerator scientists' brains are being devoured by all of the remaining soccer-moms who ran out of gasoline for their SUVs because of the hurricanes Al Gore warned us would happen due to global warming.

Good to hear dude! Pity about the Glock though... I had such high hopes for you.

The smartest thing any scientist ever said about how the universe began and developed was "We don't know". I'm more concerned with how it will end... that's likely to be more fun to watch.

Obama and Rosie Both Want Guns Protecting Their Kids
molonlabetn replied to waynesan's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I have 1000 times more respect for someone who is simply afraid of firearms because of either a lack of education or a traumatic experience... but these folks who knowingly want to strip the general populace of any means of resistance just because they want the authority are, without a doubt, lower than scum. -
Glad I filled up this morning... By the time I need to fill up again this will either have passed, or there will be bigger issues to deal with. Krystals sounds pretty good... May take a walk tomorrow.

I'd be surprised if a .22lr can wouldn't work... but, as mentioned above, making the .22wmr subsonic would be the only way to make it truly effective. And, at that point you might as well be using .22lr. Anyone know about the legality of hunting with a suppressed weapon?
