.50 AR

Have you thought about a 458 socom?  Do you reload?   If you reload, the 458 is the better choice with more projectile options.   I've killed lots of deer and pigs with the 458 and it is a show stopper.
2. Well several of my parts came in and I'm getting close.  I'm still waiting on BCG and handguard.  I decided on the SLR solo lite series and went with the 14".  I called them up to ask a question and they were very helpful and even gave me a coupon code for 10% off!  To top that off, I had a shipping notification in exactly 30 minutes!  Awesome company as far as customer service is concerned.  Obviously I'll give my impressions of the handguard later once it's received.    The BA barrel looks great.  Rifling looks good, threading is nice, crown is good, finish is smooth.  Test fit in my receiver is nice and snug.  I guess my only complaint is that it isn't dimpled.     BCG should be here tomorrow, not sure about the handguard.
3.     Thanks   Ordered a Raptor charging handle today.  Primary arms put them on sale for $85.46 so I figured I might as well jump on it.  Got a Seekins extended mag release button while I was at it.
4.     I'm not really sure yet.  In keeping with the "budget" mindset, I may throw an SWFA fixed power on there that I already have.  It's either 10x or 12x, I can't remember.
5. I mentioned doing a build thread in the PSA AR10 thread so here it is: I own several AR's and wanted something different, so I got a wild hair and decided to do one in 308. I want this to be a budget build, but it needs to be reliable and accurate enough to make hits on a 12" gong at 600yds.....something that the 308 is more than capable of. I decided on Aero receivers as they seem to be good quality...not the best, but not the worst. From my reading, they seemed to be a better choice than PSA so I caught one on sale at Brownells for $150. I'll put the price breakdown later but here are the receivers. I actually ordered them from different places so they weren't a matched set or anything. However, they fit great and the finish is the same on both and everything seems good to go. There are a few rough marks on the inside of the upper where the BCG rides. Hopefully it won't cause any issues, but we shall see. I had some parts laying around, so that will help with overall cost. Here is what I have on order: Ballistic advantage 16" premium barrel - guaranteed 1moa or less using match ammo AIM nitride bcg - all my research says this is a great bcg for the money 308 buffer and spring receiver extension and endplate Aero pins - these are longer than a standard LPK midlength gas tube Forward assist kit Parts I had on hand: Kies adjustable gas block BCM gunfighter grip LPK Magpul ACS-L stock specwar muzzle brake Still need to order: handguard - not sure what I want to go with yet. Thinking either MI or SLR in 14" or 15" geissele trigger Optic Raptor charging handle Here is what I've got so far:
6. There are tons of good options in the 30cal arena.  You need to decide what is most important to you:  Weight, length, dB reduction, price, durability, etc.    Check out the dead air sandman series and the rugged obsidian and razor as well.   Capitol armory does "easy pay" on some suppressors.  $200 down, they start the paperwork, then pay X per month for 3 or 4 months.
7.     It already has, my friend.  Check out the Nemo 300wm.   https://nemoarms.com/rifles/
8.   "nothing to offer"?  Really?   Even if you weren't going to suppress it, complete powder burn in <10" barrel makes it a dream to SBR.  1360 ft/lbs of energy with a 125gr bullet is plenty for light skinned game or hogs.  The OP never mentions what game he may be hunting so that could become a factor.         OP never mentions long range capability as a requirement, he merely states "The 308 would be more of a investment I believe to get started into but it will give me more of long range capability."   If "long range" is a requirement, then that's a different discussion altogether.
9. It's really going to depend on your main use of the rifle and how far you intend to shoot.   I have a 300blk SBR and have started a 308 build.  The 300blk is a really small, lightweight package and perfect for hunting on the move.  I recently used it on a hog hunt and it was very effective with my supers using a 110gr bullet.  There are also several subsonic expanding bullets available now if you want to be very quiet.  It's a very capable cartridge for hunting purposes.  Another huge appeal is subsonic suppressed shooting.  If you are tossing around the idea of getting a can at all, do it.    I just started the 308, so obviously can't comment a great deal here.  However, one of my buddies was using one on the hog hunt and he made several comments about how heavy it was and he would never use one again for that style of hunting, etc. I'm sure it would be fine if you are deer hunting in a stand all day.    Since you will be reloading, ammo cost won't be a factor so I won't even go into that.   Hope that helps at least a little.
10.     YES!  458 is a beast.  I just went on a hog hunt with one and it dominates.
11.     I went with Aero and will let you all know how it turns out.  I may do a build thread too, just for the heck of it.
12. Has anyone used an Aim surplus BCG for your 308 build?
13.     Are all the barrels the same?  For instance, the barrel extension is the same length for DPMS pattern and the others?   I just ordered an AERO receiver set for my build and it is DPMS high profile pattern.
14. Yep, looks like they sent you a 1/2x28 by mistake.   Nice build.  I need to build a 308 myself.    Anyone know what the accuracy is like on those KAK barrels?
15. I'm interested as well.  I want one to chop the barrel and make a short suppressed rig.  Shooting subsonic 38 through it seems like a lot of fun.  Then if I need some more power, throw 357 in it and go.  I don't really have a specific use for it, but do I really need a reason to buy one other than "because I want one?"   Cheapest I've seen them for is around $650 though.  That's the only thing holding me back.
16.   https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg_1kjeWTCA   They released 21 and 27 round 9mm mags at SHOT.
17. Glock 19 version on sale now at primary arms for $12.95.  Great price.
18.     Right, I get that and Kimber seems to think the extractor needs a ton of pressure for some reason.  I just get sick of people complaining "oh my gosh, it wouldn't go into battery every couple of mags!"  When all they have to do is take the frickin extractor out, bend it a tad and "BAM," the sucker runs 100%.  Same crap happens with every other manufacturer of 1911's too.  Just go browse 1911forum.com a bit and you will see.  I guess I'm sounding like a Kimber fanboy, but oh well.
19.   I purchased both of mine post '01 and haven't had any issues.  Of course I know I'm just a small sample of 2 pistols, but doesn't Kimber sell more 1911's than anyone else?  If that's the case, of course you are going to hear about more issues.   Does the guy you work with know 1911's very well?  They are a different animal and you should learn how to do basic tunes on them.  A lot of issues I've read about Kimber are due to extractor tension which is a very simple quick thing to fix.    People complain about overpriced, yada, yada.  I agree to an extent there.  They have some models that are ~1500 bucks.  You are in Dan Wesson and approaching Les Baer territory there.  Of course I'd opt for either of those over a Kimber at that price point.  My pistols were basic custom II's and at that price point, they are a good option IMO.
20. ah Kimber haters....   I've had good experiences with them so I'll at least give this new product a look.
21.     It's not as easy as a glock and there are more parts in a TP9, but it's not too bad either.  You have to remove the decocker, which is no big deal.  The plunger/extractor interface takes a bit of patience to get back together.  The sear block comes right out it's like a two sear system if that makes sense.  They are both contained within the block and I didn't remove them at all.  To polish the area where the trigger bar rides on the block, it was not necessary to remove them. Removing the striker spring takes more patience than a glock as well.  The spring retaining cups are really long, so you have to depress the spring quite a bit to get them out.     No special tools required.  I used a punch/hammer and a small flat head screwdriver.  I also used some needle nose pliers to remove the trigger return spring.
22. Just finished a trigger job on mine.  Haven't even fired it yet, but that's how I roll.   Trigger measured between 5.5 and 6lbs from the factory, with a little grit on the take up.  I did some polishing on the trigger bar, sear housing, striker, and plunger.  I changed the plunger spring out to a slightly lighter one out of an M&P and changed the striker spring with a lighter one out of a Glock.  Ended up with a SUPER smooth pull at just under 4lbs.  It actually breaks as clean as some of my 1911's which seems crazy for a gun that's a fraction of the cost.  I can bring it down some more with a different trigger return spring, however I didn't have anything on hand that would work.  2.5-3lbs. should be feasible.   I should have a chance to put some rounds downrange this weekend.  If I shoot it fairly well and it's reliable, I think it's a winner.
23. Since we are talking about the decocker, is there a way to simply disable it?  File something down, or remove a part, or something?    I just bought mine at lunch and haven't had an opportunity to break it down yet to look.     Edit - They are also coming out with a version that omits the decocker altogether....called "SF" I believe.  Interested to see when they are available and if the price will go up on them.     Edit #2 - BAM!  Found a non permanent solution for those who wish to disable the decocker:  http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_5_36/157293_Disable_TP9SA_Decocker.html
