The big question - concealed or open?
JGunner replied to Pat's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Without trying to say which is better or any of that, I'll just chime in and say I conceal 100% of the time. It works for me. -
I know for me I don't like the extended slide release on my G34 because every once in a while the recoil after the shot will push my thumb into the slide release. This drags the slide stop against the slide and has caused maybe 3 FTF/FTE over a few thousand rounds. Doesn't happen often, but it's enough that I plan to install a regular slide stop as soon as I get around to it. I don't use this gun as more than a range toy now, but until I replace that slide stop I won't even consider it as a defensive gun. YMMV. (I also practice pulling back on the slide to reload on all my guns rather than using the slide release).

Well either way, she be hawt. I think we can all agree on that. T minus 1:45 till new episode!!!!!!!!! I'm rewatching the 2 newest episodes and I got my g34 out for some dry fire practice headshots while I watch!!!! I just saved Big Tiny!!!

I agree!!!! However, the decision was made that the BG was more of a threat than the sniper taking the shot. I assume they had exhausted all other methods of saving the hostage when the call was made to take the shot. Maybe the BG was holding his finger on the bang button too. Maybe he had already killed someone. Maybe he was known to be mentally unstable. In this case, the right decision was made. BG loses, good guys are ok. Anyway, my point was just that even folks that train a lot with their rifles to be used in life/death situations can still screw up the sight line vs. bore line. I personally haven't shot a lot of rifles but I will keep this in mind moving forward. I can't find a link to the story or else I would post it ... I think it was some sniper show I was watching on history channel or something.

I was watching a show on shooting and there was a story about a police sniper who had to take out a BG who had a gun to a hostage's head. The sniper took the shot, and couldn't tell where his shot went. (IIRC he was fairly close range too, <100 yds). He then realized he had hit a short wall about 10 feet in front of him because of this same issue. He adjusted to clear the wall with his bore line and saved the hostage with the next shot. In the interview the officer was upset that his mistake caused the hostage to be in danger for an extra 15 seconds while he realized his error.

I worked on the carnival triumph for 6 months in 2005. During hurricanes we simply kept away from them and docked at different stops when we had too if the hurricane was too close to a scheduled stop. The boat was definitely rocking harder at those times. Thankfully I never got sea sick.

Yeah I've seen a SR1911 in the case last two times I was at academy here in chatta-Vegas. It's a nice gun, I dig it.

I just last night got my first ar build done .... So glad to have it done before politics skew pricing even more. Don't worry ... Pics are coming soon in a new thread

In response to the op: my thoughts exactly when I read the article earlier.

That pretty much sums up my feelings on s2 ..... "waaaa waaaa I have feelings waaa waaaaa" JUST GET BACK TO KILLING ZOMBIES!!!! Still a great show, and I can't wait for s3.

I was rewatching some of s1 last night to get ready! For those of you who play the interactive comic game of walking dead, episode 4 supposedly comes out on xbox360 today. (released yesterday on ps 3). I know what I'll be doing tonight. (I haven't verified the release, this is just what a quick google search told me).

My friend has a sig in .45 (not sure of the model) and I shoot it way better than my .45 guns ... I don't really understand why I haven't bought a sig yet. One of these days ... Congrats ... its a fine looking weapon.

My Gen 3 G34 has had the slide lock back here and there randomly (very very few times) while shooting. It has an extended slide release/lock, and I am 99% sure that my grip is just pushing the slide release up just enough to catch. I don't have this problem on my G26, or G21, and both of those have the standard slide release. If I was going to consider the G34 as more than a range toy, I would personally install a regular slide release just because I seem to hit it every once in a while. I wouldn't want that happening in a Self Defense situation. Since I keep the 26 / 21 around as defense weapons I haven't really worried about it much. As for the weak strikes, I will leave that to someone else's expertise. +1 on cleaning out the firing pin channel though.

Absolutely this ... yes I'll even shine a flash light down the mag well and into the chamber after I've racked the slide a few times. I learned something else from one of Clint Smith's videos (thunder ranch). If you ever hand someone a fire arm, have the slide/bolt locked back before you hand it to them. If I'm showing a friend one of my fire arms I clear the weapon, triple check, and lock the slide back before handing it over.

That's what I was thinking too ... no more free refills or large drinks ... but you're free to sell as many 16oz drinks as you want. Perhaps even a price increase too ... since a 16oz is now a large

I find it interesting that the article calls it a "rule" banning the drinks .... What force of law does this "rule" carry? Do restaurants have to follow this rule or will it be up to the owner? It is just a rule after all, not a law. Anyway, the whole thing is ridiculous ... What's next? Are they going to try to regulate how much air we're allowed to breath each day?

I almost made the mistake of reading this thread before I watched the latest episode LOL ... woooops. Yeah, as careful as Walt is ... I can't believe he just left that book sitting there. Should have been dropped in a bucket of acid like all the other evidence.

Chucktshoes answered this rather nicely. I only mentioned the jewelry to establish that we were definitely dealing with a criminal, no matter what his day job may have been (meter reader or whatever). I'm not shooting anyone over $500 worth of jewelry. (or $1000000000 worth of jewelry). I will shoot if my life is threatened. Now, if the Bad Guy (BG) does not halt, turns, and runs away, I would not shoot him. I'd let him have the jewelry and make my report to the police. But suppose that he does not halt, and advances towards you. Does he have a gun? Does he have a knife? Is he physically more powerful than me? I don't know. If you are in fear of your life at this point, you may have to shoot if he does "not halt". At this point its still not about the jewelry, its about my life being threatened by a BG. Bottom line, the neighbor handled it well, no one got hurt, and a BG is in custody. Win for the good guys.

Should worshipers be allowed to arm themselves?

Seeing the archery stuff on Top Shot got me to wanting a bow ... I still haven't done it yet though. Of course seeing every gun on Top Shot usually makes me want every gun on Top Shot too ... not just the bows ... I've got a little rural property in north Alabama so I think the bow is going to be a mandatory purchase soon for fun times down there.
