  1. I'm sure someone will correct me if I don't recall correctly ... 1) Take the course at your choice of place (prices range from free to $80). 2) Fill out application at DMV for permit (can't remember the fee here you pay the state) 3) Go get fingerprinted (can't remember if DMV gives you some form you have to take to get fingerprinted). I got fingerprinted at the UPS store on Gunbarrel road here in Chattanooga 4) Wait for the HCP to arrive! In the course they cover gun safety, when you can legally use deadly force, what to do if you are pullled over while carrying, etc ... You take a written test at the end of the course (easy). Then do some shooting on the range (which is another "test" of sorts - it's real hard to fail tho). My friend who took the HCP course before me said its basically just getting in a room and talking about guns all day. They also have a video they show you. Please correct me if I'm wrong about anything guys, and I'll edit. Also don't forget the most important part ... you have to do a Wally walk once your permit arrives. Edit: Well Peejman beat me to it ... but to be fair I did type out a bit more :)
  2. I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. That being said, its perfectly legal to have part of your gun exposed in TN while carrying (if you have a permit). If you don't have a permit, then no form of carry is ok in public. (although you can transport your gun to the range / hunting / etc ... without a permit).
  3. I am in a similar situation as you, with a Sig P226 (only had it 2 weeks tho) and a Glock 34 (my first pistol). Glock 26 is my primary carry currently. I have already invested my time towards training with my Glocks. I think for all the reasons you listed above, in a SHTF situation I would go to the Glock. I love the Sig, and with a little more practice and training I would be as proficient with it as I am with the glock. (Point being that my lack of training on the Sig is not detering me from that choice as my primary weapon - however I would not carry it until I had trained more with it. Its a lack of training issue, not a preference per say). I can't really add any info on the maintenance aspect for the Sig because I haven't detail stripped it yet. I have detail stripped my glocks, and it is EASY. However, there again, I believe with training you could learn how to fix your sig and be as proficient at that as with the glock. TLDR: I guess all I really have to add is a Vote for the Glock just based on me agreeing with everything you said in your post. (But maybe I am biased because I haven't spent as much time with the Sig either in training or maintenance).
  4. Richard I know where you are coming from ... sadly some people just don't realize how deadly the tools they use can be (whether its firearms, or cars, or whatever). It just takes one mistake to change everything. Recently I've had a couple of friends ask me about how to field strip their glocks, every time I show someone I start with 1) unload the weapon, verify chamber is empty, no mag inserted. (Finger off trigger, pointed in a safe direction) 2) Verify again the weapon is cleared (Finger off Trigger, pointed in a safe direction) 3) close slide and point weapon in a safe direction and dry fire ..... etc you know the rest. As obvious as it is to myself (and other people) I still describe the process starting from clearing the weapon. Edit: Just to add I am so grateful that Ohshoot is ok, and that Dolomite had the situational awareness to do what he did.
  5. When I got done working a cruise ship gig I was standing around at the port of miami and taking photos of the ship I had been on. (waiting for my ride to pick me up). Some security looking guy came up and told me I couldn't take photos there. I didn't press the issue I just said ok and put my camera away.

    Sig MK25

Its a beauty!!! I have been looking for some flavor of P226 for a while and I scored a tac ops model last week ... I think it's my new favorite pistol. The mk25 was on my list, so if I had found one it would have followed me home.
  7. I didn't notice the people turn, I can see where that would show support for the guy. I definitely hope they were supporting the citizen, that just wasn't my first impression. I've been known to make mistakes (occasionally) lol.
  8. I wondered which it was as well ..... I imagine sadly they were cheering the judge's decision. Boo's would make more sense if they were in support of the citizen.
  9. This is sickening ... But again not all that surprising. I really didn't need to raise my blood pressure this morning lol.
  10. Well I'm pretty sure neither of these flares was strong enough to cause any real bad damage ... But I'm certainly not an expert.
  11. Here's a simple little site to get some info on current solar happenings. http://spaceweather.com/ Apparently there have been two X class flares in the last 24 hours. These have been the two strongest flares of the year. Neither flare is heading toward any planets, but the sunspot that released these flares is rotating to be more earth facing in the coming days. Just thought I would share this info.
  12. I thought this was from the onion before I looked up and saw "MSNBC" ..... (I read the paragraph before I saw the top) Guess I need a 3d printer so I can just print my own bullets!!!
  13. Wait ..... In this case maybe we should make it illegal to steal guns, or illegal for criminals to buy them ..... Nope ... Never mind ..... BAN THE 3D PRINTED GUN NOW,!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. I had some trigger issues with my Neos a few years back (trigger wouldn't always reset, along with weak firing pin strikes). I sent it back twice and the 2nd time they just sent a new Neos to my ffl. No issues since. (the first time I got it back the trigger was worse - hence the need to send back again). I believe there is a way to look at your firing pin to tell if your gun needs the recall work. Niether Neos that I possessed needed to be recalled ... A little google should lead you to the info on determining if your Neos needs recalling. All in all it's a fun little pistol and Beretta did right for me. (along w sportsmans warehouse in Chattanooga handling the return shipping).
  15. http://nsa.gov1.info/utah-data-center/ Until recently I did not believe the government had the computational resources to really track and analyze everything everyone does. Sure if they had reason to target a group of people, they could have done that. I believe this new data center gives them the ability to track everyone all the time and analyze that data. Big brother is watching, listening, and analyzing. Here's an excerpt: Data Storage Capacity The storage capacity of the Utah Data Center will be measured in "zettabytes". What exactly is a zettabyte? There are a thousand gigabytes in a terabyte; a thousand terabytes in a petabyte; a thousand petabytes in an exabyte; and a thousand exabytes in a zettabyte. Some of our employees like to refer to them as "alottabytes".
  16. I'd like to think they are a good corporation that really values their employees ... We need more companies like that.

    My New SR1911

I love mine. No problems so far and more accurate than I am. You can actually see mine in the upper left of my avatar pic.
  19. Today someone called up my grandmother trying to sell graveyard plots. My grandmother said she didn't need any. She was about to say goodbye when instead she said "hey! I know who needs a plot!" The salesman got excited and said "really? Who?" My grandmother replied "that terrorist bomber guy up north" The salesman just laughed and said he didn't want to have him in one of their plots either. Lol I love my grandma.
  20. Thank you for posting!!! I did not know about this.
