  1. Yeah I live in the sticks also. Motion detectors got to be too much of a hassle for me, especially indoors. A few years ago my basement motion detector went off at 2:00 A.M. while we were sleeping and the indoor siren sounded. Talk about startled and not being able to hear anything (too long a story)! Has to be a spider / bug cross the face of the sensor or something shifted to trigger it. Windy days, birds and wildlife makes outdoor motion sensors a hassle too.
  2. We installed a six camera 'wired' system a couple of months ago at our church. Seems to be working very well, just need to get familiar with the software operation. It was a lot of work installing and running all the wires. The Pastor got them from Harbor Freight for under $300.00. Today I'm going to check and see what if anything ADT has to offer for video surveillance. I'm too old to be crawling around running cables.
  3. Do you have any of those home security projects you want to get done and intend to get around to one of these days. That always end up at the bottom of your priority list that never gets done, until a time comes when you had wished they were your top priority? Fortunately my recent home security experience ended well, but could have easily went South depending on the resolve of the home intruder. I'll try to keep my recent experience and thoughts as brief as possible. No one wants to experience a home invasion, especially when you're in bed and most vulnerable. Most don't want to have to use a firearm unless it's the last resort to protect your family and yourself, even inside your own home. This night I had wished I had done those home security projects I had intended to get to one of these days. I live in the country and things are pretty quiet around here except for the bugs, frogs, etc., especially at night. The wife and I were in bed and not asleep yet, and started hearing these loud metallic tapping / banging sounds coming from somewhere in or on the house and our lazy English Bull Dog starts barking from the living room where it normally sleeps at night. These sounds are obviously man made, as there can be no other explanation. My ADT alarm system has not gone off, I'm fully awake and coherent and grab by bedside handgun. I slowly proceed to the living room where the dog is and observe the dog to ascertain any threat that might be there. I have no indication or reason to believe anyone has made it to our living quarters based on my visual clearing, inspection and the dogs actions. I know the sounds we heard were man made and most likely someone trying to break into the house. I briefly consider calling the county Sheriff for a deputy to come out and check things. But reconsider based on my last experience of it taking :45 minutes for them to get here, and what good will it do anyway. I suspect whatever and whomever it was heard us and has probably left. My natural manly urge is to go outside to confront and / or to check the exterior to see what or who it is, and inspect the outside of my house. Using common sense and thinking about Tennessee Castle Doctrine Law, I fight the urge and remain in the house. I have a dead bolted door that leads to the basement, and the basement is next to an attached single car garage, separated by a flimsy hollow door with a dead bolt. One outside door that leads to the basement that has a locking door knob and dead bolt. The basement has a small window big enough to climb through with one of those flimsy thumb latches easily opened. The garage has three windows with the same type of easily opened thumb latches and are not alarmed. These are some of the areas I had intended to better secure but never got around to it. Eventually we went back to bed, and at first morning light I went outside to inspect my house and try to determine what the noise was we heard. Circling the house, the very last thing I got to and checked was the outside door that leads to the basement. Before I even got to the door I seen the damage from someone trying to Jimmie and pry the dead bolt and door knob. Damage to the door, frame and weather stripping. The thought occurred to me again whether to call the Sheriff and report an attempted home invasion. But I thought better as it would only generate a report and waste my and their time. I did inform all my immediate neighbors about the incident and be vigilant. The following two days I finally got around to beefing up my security to make it much more difficult for anyone to gain access into my home, basement and garage. At a minimum, it will take much more effort and noise to get through my additions. Something I should not have put off, the peace of mind and safety of addressing my know vulnerability areas. Just thought I'd share, and a reason to expedite any security additions your intending to get around to one day. My personal idea of security: To make my place as unattractive as possible, and as difficult to enter as possible. In the end, I win if it's very difficult to get in.
  4. Yeah that holster is crap and I'm left-handed to, so double crap I think I'm going to like the Canik for the Steel Challenge and IDPA, so I replaced the front fiber optic sight I couldn't pick up in low light, with a Trijicon HD orange front sight. Should have seen the trouble the gunsmith had and the size of the hammer to get the old front sight off! Shot a couple of magazines through it to check it out. Think I'm going to like it, shoots just slightly low and right at 12 yards, but I can correct for that. Shot it on a cloudy day and the orange is easy for me to pick up. Since it's not going to be a HD or carry gun, left the blacked out Warren rear sight on and it works well. In hindsight, I wish I would have got the Glock 34 though.
  5. Yeah please let me know. I finding out now that it seems to be a common problem with a lot of the TP9 SFx not liking anything but 115 grain bullets? With the small back strap and a rubber Talon grip on it, I really like the grip and angle and feels natural. Once I get it dependable and to my liking, I'm going to like it for competition shoots. I don't remember if I mentioned it above, but that front fiber optic sight was the cats meow on a clear sunny day the first time I shot it. Then the next time I shot it at the 'Steel Challenge' is was a dark gloomy day and I couldn't pick up my sights. In addition to it jamming with anything other than 115 grain. I can completely disassemble a Glock or 1911 for cleaning or service with never a problem. If I try disassembling the Canik lower, I'll end up with"Bag O Gun" for the gunsmith. Watching the only video I could find on Youtube at the time, this guy had a heck of a time with the spring that holds in the mag release to reverse it to left-hand, and I'm left-handed. I'm not even going to try that as a novice.
  6. Yeah I'll run some more factory rounds through it and see if it breaks in. Thanks.
  7. Hey hipower, been awhile since our last chat! Yeah, my SFx doesn't like anything but 115 grain. Get a FTE or stove pipe about every 5-7 rounds. Now I wish I hadn't dumped 1,000 rounds of mixed 115 & 124 grain in my ammo can for IDPA and steel challenge matches. I'll have to check that Canik discussion forum and some Youtube videos and see who else is having those issues and what springs they replaced?
  8. Thanks for the info! I didn't even know Canik had a forum and I'll check it out. That's the information I wanted to verify. I like the Warren blacked out rear sight and only wanted to replace the front sight. I had heard from one individual on Youtube that the SW M&P would work, but I didn't want to spend $100.00 on the front sight and after it was beaten up a bit, the gunsmith telling me it's the wrong sight and won't fit.
  9. I'm here to tell ya, there's just not much information out there about replacing the Canik TP9 SFx with after market sights, period! First time I shot that Canik it was sunny and the front fiber optic sight was wonderful and no problem what-so-ever. Took it to a steel match the following weekend and it was very cloudy, dark and misting. I could barely see the front fiber optic sight and had a hard time picking it up. I don't want to be spending big bucks and getting the wrong replacement sight, as no doubt they will not take them back all banged up, etc. I have unofficially heard that a Glock rear sight, and any SW M&P front sight will fit the dove tail. But will it be too tall / short with the stock Warren blackout tactical sight? Should have bought that Glock 34 I had intended to get in the first place. This Canik shoots 115 grain just fine, but anything heavier and you got problems. And upgrades and after market products are about nonexistent. Thanks y'all
  10. That's a good idea. The stock grip on that 686 isn't my idea of a well forming and comfortable grip. There is absolutely no room for a two-handed purchase, so "cupping it" is about all I can do, since my hand covers 100% of the grip. Last couple of other nice shiny revolvers I had I put beautiful looking wooden grips on. Sure did look 'purdy', but was like holding on to an oily handle and slipping around. Going to do something so I can at least get a piece of my support hand palm on the grip. Thanks for the advice!
  11. I'm basically in the same boat. Last time I went hunting with friends for quail and pheasant (canned hunt) the only thing I had to take was a Browning Citori or Browning XT, both with fine unscratched stock finishes. I must have been a sight walking through briers and brambles with my shotgun raised with both hands over my head. Just sold the Browning XT to purchase a Remington Versa Max Duck Blind model. It has everything I want in my old age and I don't have to worry about scratching it. Through I can't personally vouch for it, everywhere there is nothing but praise for that shotgun, save the few folks we get a lemon. Best of all, if you're a lefty like me, they make a left-hand version. I like to dove hunt also, but there's no hunt-able populations of migratory doves that pass through my area. I guess I'd have to find some place closer to the Mississippi River living in NW TN.
  12. Let me ask you a question if you don't mind. Maybe I'm just stupid? From time to time I completely disassemble my Glocks and 1911's for service and cleaning, upper and lowers, no biggie. I'm left-handed and I was going to switch the mag release to the proper side, thought that would be nice. Went to looking at it trying to figure out the simple way to do it. Well, Youtube is my friend in situations like these. By the way, there's no Youtube video's I can find that show how to completely disassemble the lower on a Canik TP9 SFx, or any Canik for that matter? Anyway, I found the one and only video (Century Arms have none) that shows how to reverse the mag release. You got to be kidding me! This guy knew what he was doing removing the spring, had a difficult time and was scratching and marring the inside of the lower. And had a heck of a time getting that retaining spring back in. So my question? Have you ever disassembled you Canik lower for service or cleaning, and did you have any problems. Youtube, the manual and Century Arms website are deafening silent on the Canik lowers. Is it just me? Maybe the novice that I am I best leave things the way they are? Thanks.
  13. I discovered something interesting a couple of days ago that gives me pause. I won't go into all the guns I own and shoot, but... My house gun is a S&W 686 plus .357 mag. Went to the range to run a few rounds through it along with a couple of other pistols. I'm normally a pretty accurate shooter especially when I'm by myself and no match pressures. For accuracy I normally just plink my revolver in single action mode for best results. This time out I thought I'd see how I'd do in home self defense mode shooting double action. Let's just say one of my 9mm pistols is going back on the night stand. There's no doubt in my mind if I had to use it inside my home it would be double action, and I was all over the target at the range. I only have 50 rounds through it, maybe the trigger will lighten up with use?
  14. I own a G43, G19 and G26, and like them all. Personally, with everything that is occurring I lean to carrying my G19 because of the extra ammunition. But I do carry the G34 or G26 to church for easier concealment. I was amazed at the attitude everyone has at our Baptist church and who carries, even the preacher. I also never want to think to myself, I wish I had thrown an extra full magazine in my pocket. Lots of great carry guns out there to choose from. Good luck.
  15. You got that right! Not mentioning all the church / school shootings going on, recently we had our own little rural fiasco. A guy robs our little local market / gas station and three customers in a stolen car. While inside a county deputy sheriff drives by and sees the stolen car. The bad man forces a woman inside the country store to drive her car to the door as the sheriff was looking at the stolen car, by threat of killing someone if she didn't. The guy runs out and the long chase is on. It ended with him wrecking and running to a country home trying to break down the door to get in. Little did he know the man inside just returned from deer hunting and had his deer rifle trained on the door. He couldn't break in and was surrounded by the police, so he fatally shot himself in the head. You're not even safe in the sticks anymore...
  16. Hey folks, it' been awhile since I was last here. Picked up a few guns since I was last on here. One in particular I'm really impressed with that I should have taken a picture of the targets. Shooting from 5, 10 and 12 yards all hits were within the size of a pie plate and the trigger is the best I've ever felt on a striker pistol. It's smooth and the reset is the best I've ever encountered. It's a long story and to keep everyone from falling asleep I'll keep it as brief as possible. Last month I shot so well in our monthly IDPA match with my G19, which I switch back and forth between a Kimber Pro Rapter .45, I decided I wanted a duty size gun for competition and a longer sight radius. I had my mind made up on a G34, that is until I walked into the local gun shop and our club treasurer was working at the time. They didn't have the G34 in stock but would order it for me, but he pulled out another full size nice looking 9mm of which I had never heard the name of before. He and the other sales guy working there were praising it and saying they both had one and loved it. So I fondled it for about 10 minutes, pulled the trigger some and checked the reset, etc. I looked at all the gizmos and gadgets that came with it and asked the price. With tax less than $500.00. SOLD! The pistol I'm referring to is the Canik TP9 SFx. There's nothing like buying a pistol first, then looking at all the Youtube video's and reviews afterward is there? Like any handgun, there are a few detractors out there, but most praise this Turkish pistol. The only draw back I've found so far was finding a holster for it, in LEFT - HAND, that was a chore. I'm anxious to see if and how much it improves my IDPA and steel match scores. Did I mention it comes with two - twenty round magazines? What a gun for the money. No, I'm in no way associated with them...
  17. Excellent, excellent video, thanks for sharing. This indeed is a fascinating subject and I have read and studied extensively on some of your subject matter. I don't consider myself a conspiracy nut but, when you look behind the facade of the 'science' it smacks dab of spiritualism, dark knowledge and the occult. As you pointed out, why the symbolic statue of a historic female demon and her history? What is special about the exact location of the collider? What have the directer(s) of CERN stated about their goals, agenda, aspirations and potential exchanges between unseen dimensions? For all intents and purposes, it appears to me they are trying to obtain 'knowledge' by use of dark spiritual forces and calling it "science". OUCH! My aluminium hat just scratched my expensive computer monitor... Anyone aware of V.A.T.T, Mt. Graham, the L.U.C.I.F.E.R. project, the Vatican connection and the Catholic's baptizing E.T.'s when (not if) they make their presence known? Why is a religion so deeply involved in astrobiology and such a change in its doctrine in recent times? Another fascinating subject. YIPES! My tin foil suit just got too close to my computer electrical outlet
  18. The HCGC will be hosting its monthly club (non sanctioned) IDPA shoot Saturday, August 13th. Registration is at 8:30 A.M. and the match begins at 9:00 A.M. and open to the public. 19. This story has to start from the beginning. For the last five years I've put out Hummingbird feeders, some years it attracted more visitors than others. Last year was the least number of Hummingbirds around here. This year I had decided not to put out any feeders because of laziness and other things to do. On either the 1st or 2nd of May I was watering my garden with the garden hose. A Hummingbird came by and hovered 3-4 feet in front of my face for at least a full minute or so. I thought to myself, well it's that time of year, why not, this must be a sign. I did notice a number of Hummingbirds visiting the location where the feeders hung last year. I really haven't done any research on them but, it appears their tiny little brains remember exactly where the feeders were the previous year. I do recall they migrate a large distance back to Mexico or South America for the winter. If that be the case, that's quite a feat to pinpoint navigate that distance for a bird with a brain the size of maybe a grain of sand, it's amazing. Anywho, this year that Hummingbird that hovered by my face brought his / her buddies, they're as thick as mosquito's! Every other day I have to make 'a gallon' of sugar water, they drink 1/2 gallon a day from four standard feeders. I know their little bellies can't hold more than one single drop at a time? They're really neat little birds and fun to watch. They really get super aggressive with each other. Just thought I'd share.
  20. Well fella's it seems they haven't missed any of us on here.
  21. Which Lubriplate, they make a bunch of different blends with different qualities? I'd have to go out and looks at the tube but, the one I use is water resistant. I use lubriplate in the winter for my AR and red high temperature wheel bearing grease during the summer and when it's going to work hard.
  22. I'm a MMA / UFC fan myself. What really surprises me is, to the best of my knowledge, there's more deaths and permanent injuries from boxing and football than MMA fights. Man that's got to hurt!
  23. With the terrorism and civil unrest, anyone with a little foresight can see where this is heading. Best case scenario is things will get worse before they get better. During such times what does a tyrannical government do? Our police are our first line of defense and provide an extremely valuable service. They put themselves in harms way on our behalf. God bless our police officers and their families. I'm not looking forward to the break down of society and escalating foreign and domestic terrorism.
  24. Before the garden started to produce I had intended on purchasing a real nice food processor, a food vacuum sealer and a dehydrator myself. But the way the political climate is and the things that are occurring, I reallocated those funds for a back up AR-15 and some ammunition. Oh well, next year. I did 14 quarts of green beans this morning. Sure is nice to be able to do 14 quarts at a time compared to seven with my old caner. Sure like that American pressure caner I bought. A tad expensive but it will out last me and then my kids.
