  1. If you're just getting started with a caner study up on it, it can be a pressure bomb. Don't have the time to tell you about my first experience and my ceiling decorated with pretty little green beans years ago. Also get the Bible of canning, "Balls Caning Guide" and exactly follow those procedures. It's important to do it safely and not get hurt and/or poison yourself / family eating your processed food.
  2. Wow, what timing... Just waking up drinking some coffee, checking my email and my favorite forum before I start my day. Yesterday the wife was complaining about our chest freezer being all filled up with squash and particularly green beans, and can't get to what she wants. So, off to Wally World we go to get 'some more' cases of canning jars. Going to spend the day cooking and canning green beans and hope to get 28 quarts done but most likely just 14 quarts, since the process takes so long. It's been a bumper crop for green beans this year. I planted maybe about 50 linear yards and they just keep coming and coming. I've canned 60 quarts so far and the freezer is loaded with them. I've given away a bunch and tried to get a bunch of people over to help themselves to them, but they're too lazy to pick them even for free. Would like to can a lot of squash and zucchini but that hasn't worked out well for me in the past. In addition to the FDA not recommending or setting a standard for canning any squash, after the process the squash is useless for anything but 'maybe' a vegetable for home made soup. Floured squash fired with onion and green peppers is a meal in itself, and the wife makes a great white sauce squash receipt.
  3. Yesterday evening I was curious on what was happening with the BLM protest in St. Louis at the Gateway Arch. Basically just curious because my youngest son and family live real close and his wife has to pass directly by there coming home from work about 6:15 P.M. I didn't hear or see anything about it on my local news channels. According to my son, he said it was all a hoax? If so, there sure was a lot of time, effort and coverage spent on it for nothing, unless it was a test run or something?
  4. I basically had the same problem and the pistol felt 'slick' in my hand. For about $20.00 I got one of those aggressive sand paper like "Talon Grips" and put it on my G19. Feels way better now and a positive grip even when hands are wet from sweat / rain. Only draw back is I need to wear a t shirt when carrying IWB so the grip doesn't sand paper my pretty sensitive little love handle. As a matter of fact, I put a Talon Grip on my G26 and G43 also. They generally last me about 1-2 years before the back strap portion fails and I need to replace them. But that's because of the texture of the stippling and not much surface area to adhere to.
  5. The spring didn't start off too well for me. My tomato plants were in the ground two week when the neighbor started preparing his ground to plant his corn crop and was spraying something. Two days later all twenty-four tomato plants were wilted and dead. Replanted them and I'm still nowhere near my first ripe tomato yet. It's been a bumper crop for squash and Blue Lake bush green beans this year. Planted about 50 linear yards of beans and have picked maybe 8-10 bushels so far and they keep producing. I'm so tired of picking, canning and freezing green beans and I can't get anyone over to pick 'free' green beans, they will take them if they're already picked though? The difference in production this year is I spent many hours weeding the garden. It's amazing just how fast weeds will take over and how they can disguise themselves to look like a green bean leaf. Had a BIG problem with those beetles last two years eating my plants and fruit trees but surprisingly I haven't seen one beetle this year. Exception being an infestation of those yellow beetles everywhere getting into the house during the spring. Looks like I'm going to have watermelon out the wazoo just from planting 'two' little packets for a buck each. Once the vines start to spread out there's no way in the world to keep them weeded. It's going to be a big camouflaged egg hunt for them through all the high weeds when they get ready to be picked. I loves me pickled beets and this was the 'third' year I planted them from seed and failed. At best they will start to grow and then either die off or not produce any beet? Wish I knew what I was doing wrong? The packages and internet says it's a spring / fall vegetable and doesn't do well in hot weather. But my co-op and others claim you can grow them in the hot summers around here? At any rate I learned my lesson and not waste my time with beets anymore. I canned 'a lot' of salsa last year. So much so I though I'd not have to make anymore for a few years to come. Wrong! We've been completely out for quite some time now. In addition to potato chips it's great in soups, chili, crock pots and lots of dishes. I'm waiting for the wife to try it with her corn flakes, not mine! This is my third year using my American pressure canner that does 14 quart jars at one time. I really like that thing and it was worth the investment. Now I need to get me a top of the line food processor and vacuum bag sealer (any suggestions)? Wish the deer around here would allow me to grow sweet potato's, cantaloupe and grapes. I'd need an electric fence or something to keep them from eating them.
  6. I didn't know there was more than one kind? They're green fiber optic and cost about $90.00 installed. I have them on most of my handguns and like them better than Trijicon HD'S, because they are so bright day / night.
  7. I traded in my Ruger LCP for the G43 to fill in a niche because you just never know. I really never seen the need to carry anything around here while on my property tending to the garden, chickens, cutting grass, etc. That is until I about stepped on a 'cotton mouth' twice, crossed paths with a rabid opossum (suspected anyway), had an armadillo in the chicken house and lastly had two scraggly rednecks sneak up on me way back on my property with the pretense of asking directions. Ever try a precision shot with the LCP sights, or lack there of? My G43 is a tad difficult to conceal in my pants pocket but tending my business outside that's of no concern. I do need to get some shorts / jeans with deeper pockets so I can comfortably retrieve it / conceal it better in a front pocket. I will say it's a lot easier to grab and go and carry AIWB for those quick trips to town or to the mail box, rather than strapping on a holster and dressing around it. Compared with the LCP, I'm much more accurate with the G43, I can get 75 rounds out of it at the range, compared to 50 with the LCP before my hand begs me to quit. With aggressive Talon Grips, TruGlow sights and a Ghost connector I'm more than satisfied.
  8. Exactly... Ever heard the government or media refer to it any other way except "assault rifle"?
  9. It's ridiculous on the play of words! An assault rifle (AR) is a military weapon designed to function in full auto mode and human assault in combat. Try to regulate and describe what an assault weapon is and is not and all of a sudden it covers most sporting arms. The AR-15/10 needs to be labeled and referred to as what it is, a modern sporting rifle (MSR) MSR-15. That in and of itself would do wonders on its image, would you agree? As a former military man given a preference on long guns in CQC, I'd chose a 12 gauge auto / pump with a 7 round magazine tube using buckshot over a MSR-15 with 30 rd. banana magazine of 5.56 / .223. It's easy to feed, much more effective and versatile in any situation. Yep, the ole 12 gauge assault shotgun (AS-00 Buck).
  10. I don't understand the liberal / democratic way of reasoning, logic and critical thinking. Do you suppose they really believe their agenda will limit or prevent criminal / terrorist behavior? Or are they afraid of law abiding Americans capable of defending themselves against government tyranny, socialism and intrusion of individual liberty? California and parts of New York resemble the former Soviet Union IMO.
  11. You know, maybe it's my senility and ignorance but...    The courts / judicial system is suppose to interpret the law(s) and intent of the legislators imposing laws, am I so far correct in that assumption?    If something is critical enough that a 'law' needs to be passed, you would think it would be written crystal clear with examples if needed so there's no mistake of the intent, application and coverage? Sort of like good parenting skills and management style. Seems to this old fart if a little more communication, attention to detail and clarity were applied to their thoughts and legislation, fewer loop holes could be found to argue about and clog the court systems?    One reason you need to be a lawyer to understand the law is 'words'. The dictionary definition of many 'words' in legislation is totally different than common usage and meanings, why? Ignorance of the law is no excuse?
  12. What's wrong with the aggressive texture 'Talon' grips? No fuss no muss, they work excellent for me.
  13. Bought a new Glock 43 not long ago and recently tried it out. My trigger finger was worn out even before a box of ammo. I'm guessing the pull was 8-9 pounds.   I had a Ghost 3.5# trigger kit installed on my G19 and found it was a little to lite for my liking. This time I decided to drop in a Ghost connector by itself without spring replacement and see what happens? Worked out great! The pull and reset is crisper and it significantly reduced the pull weight to (guessing) about 5-6 pounds, and it's now comfortable and a pleasure to shoot.    Previous to this I had talked to several Glock armorers about replacing only the connector. All said they had never just replaced the connector by itself and didn't know if it would significantly change the pull?    Much better...
  14. Do you suppose that hurt?

  16. Yep, it's that time of year where the Carpenter Bees destroy my pole barn and back deck.    The most effective and least expensive method I've found is a $2.50 racket ball racket I found at a yard sale and :30 minutes of my time everyday for a week. I can't believe how tough those little buggers are! I've hit them with a 100 MPH fastball and then stepped on them. And a few minutes later I hear this buzzz and look over and see some dust stirring on the ground and the CB takes off again  :wall:   I have a few of those bee traps and they work reasonably well however... Like mentioned above they are indiscriminate and catch any kind of bee so I don't use them anymore. I've noticed there's not many bee's around here anymore and without bee's pollination, it's a serious problem to us all.
  17. Yeah at my age I don't have any decals or stickers on my truck either. I enjoy not attracting any unwanted attention.    If I wanted a little attention, I'd do the Wally World walk without my concealment shirt / jacket on. Leaving Wally World I'd crank up the ole 500 watter all the way home so everyone within 500 yards could feel my vibes too  :biglol:
  18.   My neighbor has caught Bobcat's on his trail cameras here in NW Tennessee. But in all my years I've never laid an eyeball on one. Sure would like to see a live one on my property someday.
  19. Anything with Hanoi Jane Fonda in it.
  20.   Dennis, follow Caster's good advice and don't open your mouth...
  21.   No problems 'yet' but sort of regret replacing my Glock 19 factory with a 3.5 pound kit. Though it's crisp and feels great...
  22.   Said another way > http://www.frankopinion.net/islam-the-religion-of-peace
  23. Hopefully it won't happen because the car door is locked?
  24. I like the excitement of election day myself and wearing my little "I Voted Today" sticker proudly until I change clothes as few weeks later.   You know, it sure would be interesting to know the early election numbers for each candidate. Why do you suppose under law it's kept secret until the final tally? Would it not be more beneficial for all involved to know the standings? Poll's can be notoriously inaccurate and misleading as you all know.
  25. Like SGT. Friday on Dragnet: I'll just fling open a shiny CCW Permit Holder Badge at them  :dropjaw:   And NO, of course I don't and never have.
