  1. WTH. I'm in :woohoo:   I only have 250 rounds of Eley Sport that I can put up. But hopefully it will give some kids a good time. Same stipulations as Ted listed in his first post.   I'm also in Spring Hill, but I'm in west Nashville through the week.
  2. I've had an 88 for a couple for years now. Main complaints are the rock hard recoil pad and the LOP seems a bit too long for me. The heel of the stock grabs the material of my shirt while shouldering. Both are fairly easily fixed.   Wile searching for a shorter stock I picked up the Hogue Overmolded stock set. The Hogue stock dropped the LOP to a much more comfortable ~13.75. I really only wanted the stock, but it came with forearm as well. As mentioned earlier the 88 has the pinned on action bars. I picked up a replacement 500 slide in the correct length for the new forearm and installed them. I do like the Hogue forearm much more that the old Corn-Cob, but the conversion was not cheap at ~$65 for the new slide.
  3. I down in the southern edge of Williamson county and things are still relatively affordable with pretty good schools. Most are less than 10 years old with more than half being less than 5 years old. Lost of growth. But that commute into Nashville everyday really stinks. 35 miles each way up 65 at 7:00 is no fun. If they ever finish the years of construction it will get a little better.
  4. It seems the key is to find someone that has decent shipping prices. I used Grafs and they had a flat rate up to 50lbs (I believe), while WholeSale Hunters got me for $18 for two boxes of 357 :squint: But that is my fault, I wanted to try some of the BB short barrel and they had it at a decent price. I payed to play.   As far as Gunbot, you better already have your account setup with the Online seller and be quick with the order. I missed out twice on really good deals by messing around with the shipping cost and another because I forgot my password to my account. Now that I am getting closer to a comfortable ammo level, I have not been searching as hard.
  5. I've used the following link to find some decent deals online for some 22 and 38 ammo. I was able to pick up 2K rounds of Eley Sport for .07 a round after shipping and 200 rounds of 38spl for ~.42 per round.   http://www.gunbot.net/ammo/22lr/   Gotta be quick. I missed out on a couple of good deals by just a couple of minutes. Today a listing for Eley Sport at .14 a round was sold out in 3 minutes.
  6. Sorry my preference is a S&W wheel gun. Had the semi's, been there, done that. Some of us just like what we like.
  7. It seems there are still a fair number of 4" and 6" guns out there, although at least %10 higher than last year. When the barrel get <4" is when they really start to get scarce and pricey. 3" M66s are going for a grand or more these days. Now that most of the police trade in guns are bought up that the hopes of getting a sub $300 S&W look to be gone. Latest K Frame acquisition. M13-3 3"- LOVE ME SOME K-FRAMES  This one took a lot of hunting down. Almost NIB for a decent price.
  8. I am very interested in getting into this style of shooting. Punching paper at the range is getting a tad boring. I am newborn new to this kind of thing, not shooting or guns, just competitive shooting. I still have some equipment/ammo shortages that I need to get before I can shoot a match, but I would like to come up tomorrow and watch and participate in the setup to get an idea of how the matches go before adding live-fire shooting into the mix.   What time should I show up for setup?   Thanks Mark
  9. I was able to pick up this 1978 Marlin 1894c in .357 last year and it is by far my favorite long gun. My 39a used to hold that spot, but this one now gets the nod. I got lucky and was able to get it with a 4x scope for $450 off of GB. It has a little bruising on the forearm, but the metal is easily %98. They are out there. It just takes some looking and a little luck. :) As far as which ones to watch out for, almost all of the guns with the JM rollmark are less likely to have problems. The rollmark is on the right side of the barrel right by the receiver. I do not recall which year they were bought and moved to the new factory, but right before and since, they have had major problems. I had all this memorized last year when I was hunting mine down, but it's been a while. Head over to marlinownersforum and you will get more than you can stand on the subject. Basically, 90's and back are good. 2K and forward, check over carefully. I like the Henry, but it does not have side gate loading. I have a number of tube mag rifles and really wanted the side gate.
  10. 1946 Winchester 62A My grandfather gave this to my father on his 14th birthday. While away in Korea his younger brother managed to damage the chamber so badly that it would not feed. It sat in a closet since. Last Christmas I decided to try and get it running again. A few weeks later the 4th generation in my family was shooting this gun. It went back home to my father in May and will come back to me at some point, but I'm not rushing that day.
  11. Saw a 1978 built 1894 in 44mag last week on GB from a pawn shop in on the west side of Nashville asking 499. Not a nibble on the auction. I was tempted to go down to the store and offer $450.
  12. Back when my lever gun fever was at it's worst I had to look for months before I could find a pre-Remlin 1894c. My LGS had a current manufacture 1894c, but the all of the finishing, wood and metal looked very poor. Over at Marlin owners forum there are so many horror stories of guns that will not cycle, bad wood to metal fit, canted sights. I wanted nothing to do with that so I hunted until I finally found a 1978 1894c in .357 for $450. This is now my favorite plinker by far. All of my Marlins wear this
  13. I just picked up a RIA Tactical from Bellshire on Monday for $440 plus tax and BG. I tried some of the sponsors first, but no one had any RIA in stock. I'm only at 100 rds at this point, but it has run flawlessly even with a cheapo Promag mag from Academy. I was in the market for an entry level 1911 and after a good bit of research the RIA seemed the best for the money. I went with the Tactical for the beavertail and adjustable sights, probably going to remove the ambi safety as it cuts into my trigger finger when disengaged. I just can't see the GI sights at all and the cost to install an extended grip safety would have been more than the extra cost of the Tactical over the GI. I will say the finish seems pretty weak. After only a hundred rounds it is showing some wear on the slide near the muzzle and some handling marks. I don't really care, just wanted to mention it. They had a Duracoated Tactical for $10 more, but I swear I thought I saw, through the case, a ding on the slide so I passed on it.

    H&R 949 22 revolver

My only H&R revolver is a 999 Sportsman with a 6" barrel that I've had over 20 years.. I love it, DA is not gritty, just really heavy. SA is great though and it's pretty accurate. Last week I was shooting clay pigeons off of the 50 yard berm. Did not hint %100, but more hits that misses Mine is a 1973, this was the transition year from the hammer mounted firing pin to the frame mounted. I would only carry on an empty chamber on this one. I'm dumbfounded what these guns are going for these days. I've seen some mint NIB go for north of $500. Getting up into the S&W range at that point. Parts are getting scarce though. Here is a good thread with bunch of H&R info as well as DOB info: http://www.go2gbo.com/forums/index.php/topic,26264.msg503417.html#msg503417
  15. They don't really have as many models for the 39a. Mostly only color options. The 1894 has a few different models available. If you have not yet checked out their website: http://www.skinnersights.com/ I will say that the results with front sights seem to differ. You might try emailing him directly with your gun specifics and he might be able to tell you if it will work or not. The Marlin Owners forum also has a lot of information/activity on the Skinner sights.
  16. I don't have a 1894 ....Yet! 1894 in .357 next on my list. But I have a 39a with the regular blued Skinner on it. For me it does still fit the flavor of a lever gun. It works with my factory front sight and clears my fold down factory rear sight. I later ordered one of the fine apertures and find it the best for me. Both of my orders shipped the same day I ordered and was in my hands in three days. Install was almost too easy. A pic of it installed on my 1982 39a
  17. I've had the DIP trigger and guard on one of my m60s for about 6 months or so now. It is a nice upgrade from the factory trigger. The best bang for the buck looks to be the drop in trigger. You get the non-serrated trigger and set screw for $23. Just don't try and remove all of the pre-travel with the set screw. The safety will no longer work and the trigger cannot reset. There has to be some pre-travel for the gun to work properly.
