1. My came in 8 business days after doing the DMV and Fingerprinting.   I checked the app status online 3 days after the DMV/Fingerprinting and it was approved.    I took the course back in October and procrastinated the final steps until a few days before my application expired. I was pleasantly surprised by the DMV experience. I went down to the Columbia DMV and had maybe a 2-3 minute wait before I was called up. Good thing I had submitted my app online during the CCW course. Due to the really short wait time I would not have had time to complete the paperwork. The clerk was very nice and knowledgeable about the process. She even pointed me to a fingerprinting location that was on my way home.
2. Look for a used Marlin/Glenfield 60. You should be able to pick one up for $125 or less in decent shape. I've had two, both early 80's guns with the longer barrel and mag that will feed anything but CBs.If you are not looking to customize the 60 is a great affordable option.
3. Very Nice! I have a 1973 model that was a gift to me 20+ years ago. It would be one of the last I would ever sell. DA trigger is pretty heavy, but SA is quite nice. Make sure and check that rear sight screw as they like to get loose and the rear blade will fall out. If you have a problem with FTF, take the grips off and check the plastic main spring follower. They get brittle and break over time.
4. I'm using a Mueller APV 4.5x14x40 AO on my Marlin 60. I believe it was right around $125 a couple of years ago.
5. About the only downside to the K-Frame is that running too many hot 357 loads can split the forcing cone. This is the main reason the L Frame was built. My favorite by far
6. What size frame are you looking for? I'm partial to the K frames myself. As mentioned the adjustable sight K frames are 19 or 66. Fixed sight guns are 13 or 65.   The 586/686 guns are a little larger L frame with adjustable sights. There are also fixed sight L frame but I have not come across short barrel versions.   Up from that are the N frame guns. Model 27 are consider the higher class versions (high polish blue, checkered top strap) and come in a 3.5" barrel. Model 28s are the blue collar version but again I do not recall any short barrel versions.   Down from the K Frame in size are the J Frames. There are a few J Frames in 357, one of the most popular is the Model 60.   How short of a barrel are you looking for? My current preference is 3". Not really considered a snub, but a really nice balance.
7. I'm still using the factory sights on my 1894. I usually have problems seeing iron sights but for some odd reason I can see the sights on my 1894 pretty well. I did go with a Skinner peep on my 39a. I had read that some needed to replace their front sight when using the Skinner, but it worked well with my factory front sight with the hood removed. With one full turn of adjustment left it is dead on at 50 yrds with most ammo. Not a fiber optic but I thought I would mention another option. I am considering going with one on my 1894 as it works so well on the 39a.
8. I took mine Saturday and was bound and determined to do it with my 3" S&W M13. Of 20+ in the class only two of us were shooting revolvers. When the instructor brought out the targets I was a little worried and almost chickened out and used my 22 semi-auto. I had shot a couple of practice targets the day before but they were full sized B-27. The class targets were reduced size B-27 that are almost %50 the size of a regular B-27. That thing look right small sitting there in the classroom and even smaller out at 11 yrds. I'm glad I stuck with the DA revolver though. I was quite happy to be able to "hang" with the semi-autos :) The pace of the shooting was pretty quick and by the last couple of rounds at 11yrds I was not as focused and let a few wander out there. We shot 100 rounds in less than 30 minutes. Shoot and reload and shoot again. There were a couple of times I thought that the guy next to me had shot my target, but it was just the ventilation system coming on and blowing the target. 9. He should have stopped after Bear and the Dragon. Tail of the Tiger was horrible. Trying to bring in a new generation of Ryans was a fail. Everything was about the clothes they were wearing and the Mercedes they were driving. Once he got famous he traded in his wife for a trophy. Been reading them since Red Storm rising came out, I still have copy that most of the pages are falling out from being read so many times, but I was not a fan later in life.   John Clark is THE man! Without Remorse is one of my favorites.

scope for model 60

On my Glenfield I had cheapo Wally World rings that never moved, but I had refinished the receiver. They might have had more bite into the paint than the original finish. On my '83 60 I have the one piece Leapers mount I don't think that think has a chance of moving even with a slightly larger/heavier scope. It has a Mueller 4.5x16x40 AO on it now.   For the scope on the Glenfield I used a Simmons 8 Point 3x9x40. It was all of $35 at Academy a couple of years ago. It was clear, bright and decent eye relief. Seemed to hold zero well on a rimfire. At 25 yards it was a little blurry at 9x. I've heard good things about the BSA Sweet 22 as well.
11. Midway has 525 round bricks for 23.99 at the moment. Limit of one though.
12. I just went through the same exercise with a 1100-LW 20g I picked up for one of my daughters. The SN sure seemed to indicate late 70 to early 71, but when I finally found the date code on the barrel it showed 75. For some reason the date code on mine was on the bottom of the barrel instead of the normal left side. It was also a little odd that the receiver was not stamped LW, just Remington 1100.

Revolver fever

I'm mostly a S&W K Frame fan, but have a couple of others as well. S&W M13-3 My current favorite. Shhh don't tell the others :) S&W M10-6 Hands down the best trigger out of the bunch. S&W M28-2 H&R 999 Sportsman. And my black sheep member of the herd. A truly fine piece of German engineering, a Rohm-RG38. The DA timing is off so bad that it shears the jacket off of a SJ round in DA. To say the least is does not get loaded anymore. Only redeeming value is the super heavy trigger pull to build trigger finger strength. After 50 squeezes of this thing makes the K-Frame triggers feel like 2 oz :)
14. There are people that have a completely different mindset about dogs or pets in general. Some feel they are disposible while some treat them part of the family. Then there are those that dress them in clothes and carry them around in a purse, but that's a whole other story :)   I had to put down my golden retriever of 14 years Wednesday morning and I'm still struggling with it 2 days later. Some of my co-workers understand and others can't seem to grasp the grief, "It's just a damned dog". Any animal that comes under my roof is going to be treated well, not spoiled, but taken care of. Not disposed of when they become an inconvience or when the puppy new wears off. My wife works at a vets office and comes home almost everyday with a sad story of irresponsible pet owners. I've had to ask her to please not to tell me any of those for a few days.   When I was 10 we found a german shepard about a year old and searched for weeks for the owners before allowing ourselves to get emotionaly invested in the dog. 2 months later the owners popped up out of nowhere. We felt we had to do the right thing and give the dog back. At that age it was hard to understand why.
15. If the LGS does not want to handle transfers, don't advertise them. One of the LGS here charges more than $100 over the value for their in store guns and wants $100+ for a transfer. I do not do business with them. As soon as an FFL starts to hmm and haw about a transfer I walk away. Building loyalty and trust is a two way street. The FFL I use now admits that it is about 10 minutes of paper work.
16. D&T usually called me within an hour of the gun arriving. I'm using a guy just a couple of miles away now that usually calls me the same day or the next at the latest.
17. My post was made in jest. I probably did not use the right smiley :)   I do not discount the importance of physical conditioning, but I do beleive that good body mechanincs and technique can be developed more quickly than physical conditioning. Plus a 5'2" 98 lb women is only going to have so much upper body/hand strength, that's not what I married her for.
18. Been married 20+ years now, I know better than to tell my wife she needs to go to the gym :shake:
19. I've gotta agree with the folks saying it is technique. All of my daughters and wife can rack my 1911. It took a little while, but once they got it about pushing the gun forward they do not have a problem. Of course racking the slide on my S&W 422 is a bit easier :)   I was at the range yesterday and a young girl was struggling to rack the slide on a smallish 9mm semi-auto. I was starting to get really nervous as the muzzle wandered towards me. I wanted to give a a pointer, but they got it racked before I could offer.
20. Deep Purple!   Highway Star and My woman from Tokyo.
21. Do I dare admit in public that I had to google what "twerking" is   But then again being the father of three teenage daughters it might be a good thing that I don't know.
22. I have a 1894C in .357and  looked long and hard to find a true JM gun. If it has JM on the barrel and the SN# is on the tang and not the side you have a pre-Remington gun. If the SN is on the tang subtract the first two digits of the SN from 2000 and it should give you the date of manufacture (ie first two digits of 22=1978 19=1981) After 2000 the numbering changed and I believe that was the year the SN moved to the left side of the receiver. If the barrel has the REM rollmark on the right side the barrel it is a Remlin.   Not to say that some good guns did not come out after the Remington buy-out, there just seems to be a higher rate of bad runs since. All of my Marlins are 82 or older.
23. I bought a house in July the previous owner had built his own antenna and put it in the attic which puts it about 25' off the ground. It has a 20db Channel Master Pre-amp and the actual antenna looks to be built mostly from hardware cloth. I can pick up the following stations fairly consistently and I am down in Spring Hill. The picture is far better than my HD cable service, but then again maybe being free just makes it look better :)   2-1 WKRN-DT ABC Nashville 2-2 WKRN-SD ABC Weather 4-1 WSMV-HD NBC Nashville 5-1 WTVF-HD CBS Nashville 5-2 NC5+ WTVF Plus 5-3 THisTV 8-1 NPT-1 8-2 NPT-2 15-1 WHDF-DT CW 17-1 WZTV-FO Fox 19-1 WHNT-HD CBS Huntsville 19-2 WHNT-SD AntennaTV 28-1 ION 28-2 QUBO Kids 28-3 IONLife 30-1 WUXP-MY My-30 30-2 WUXP-CO CoolTV 31-1 WAAY-HD ABC Huntsville 50-1 TBN 50-2 Church 50-3 JCTV 50-4 Enclace ?? 50-5 Smile Kids?? 54-1 WZDX-DT Fox Huntsville 54-2 WAMY-DT My8?? 54-3 ME TV-S 58-1 WNAB-CW CW Nashville 58-2 WNAB-TC The Country Videos     Again, not too bad for free. I was very tempted to dump cable and go all streaming and antenna, but with 4 women in the house there are some channels that apparently cannot be lived with out
24. I was shocked talking to a couple of my co-workers last week when I mentioned Walking Tall and Buford Pusser. They had no clue what I was talking about but mentioned "that movie with the Rock?" :yuck:   They are 10 -15 years younger than I, but they are both from TN. They both went on the Fail Board that day.
25. I drove through there last weekend on the way to Selmer. Drove quite a ways on Buford T Pusser Highway :)   Lots of flea markets down that way also.
