  1. It would seem to me that if you didn't have firearms, you'd start figuring out how to make a bow and some arrows. Even if you had firearms and some ammunition, a good bow and some arrows would be a great way to add a little protein to your diet and save the ammo for defense.
  2. If I were going to have that style of shovel, I'd go ahead and go to EBAY and get a REAL G.I. Issue E-Tool with a carrier. I think I'd also look hard at the CS Special Forces Shovel. I'd also rather have a machete and dump the saw and hatchet.
  3. You know, I never had a problem sticking a snubbie in my back pocket. Always fit just fine.
  4. I've had two of them. Lost them both and I didn't buy another. Good knife though.
  5. There is a nice Colt Agent for sale in the Classifieds. They are light and typically have a wonderful trigger! And the best of all is they hold one more round than a Smith & Wesson J-Frame does. I have one in blue and it's my go anywhere pistol. I believe this one has a matte finish.
  6. Nice!
  7. Sounds like a good way to go. I figured a south facing hill to add to the heat if it was needed. I'd have to have windows too, just for the natural light, but that is doable. I've thought about building an underground house a lot. I'd also get some solar panels and get off the grid too. I'd like it so that the only thing I really needed was someway to hit the net. I could live like that.
  8. Honestly, not that hard to convert if your NOT mechanically inclined, like myself! I have one in 5.56x45. Love it!
  9. It's one of those situations where you are damned if you do and damned if you don't. My Company is the same way. Don't ask, don't tell.
  10. I do have a bias towards Colts, but only their revolvers! LOL! In my opinion the last good 1911 Colt made was the Series 70's back in the 70's and 80's. I understand that they re-introduced the Series 70 again in this decade, but I haven't seen a new Colt in I don't know when. I also don't like the fact that they have all but got out of the revolver business. I'd like to see them bring back some of their affordable quality revolvers again. I don't think they will ever do it though.
  11. If you want to go cheap then buy a RIA. If you want to spend a little, go Springfield Armory.
  12. They are no longer listed on Cold Steel's website. Better get one while you can. I also would like to add the Cold Steel is one of the few Machete makers that uses carbon steel. Most others are stainless steel blades. Another maker that uses Carbon Steel is Ontario Knife Company. They've been making machetes for the military for decades.
  13. I should re-read the Foxfire series. I'd appreciate them more now than I did when I was a kid.
  14. Not only can one ever have enough handguns, but one must have a snubbie in the collection as well.
  15. I've not been reading good things about the 5.56 in Afghanistan. Seems like everyone wants a 7.62. My guess is your going to see SOCOM go to that caliber of weapon exclusively.
  16. Suspenders man!
  17. Don't forget that not only are you raising food for you and yours, but for the next harvest too. Might have to double the amount of garden space needed. Might not be forty acres, but I bet you'd need at least one acre in order to have food for a year and for the next planting, depending on how many is in your family. My mom and dad have done the raised beds. Works well.
  18. I really like Cold Steel Machetes! I have a Kopis that is WICKED! They discontinued them a couple of years ago. Thought about picking up a couple of those Barongs though.
  19. I can't remember what they call such seeds, but I think you don't want to run down to Mayo's and purchase just any old seed. Many of the seed producers now-a-days, produce hybrid seeds. You get one growing season out of them. The fruit doesn't produce seed for next year's crop. It may be called "Heirloom" or some such term. I think it's smart to stock up on seeds. Usually they don't cost much and take up very little space. Just remember that you also need the proper tools for gardening. A tractor or a draft animal, both of which have to be "fed" as well. If you go mechanical, then you will need gas, oil and spare parts. If you go animal, then you have to store much more food and water. A bugout bag is not going to be enough in a SHTF situation. Cities are not going to be the place to be if a situation goes on more than three days.
  20. Checkering is expensive, but I sure would love to have it done to my Springfield.
  21. Is it just me or does it just seem wrong that Smith & Wesson would make a .380 auto and call it a Bodyguard? I keep picturing the good old humpback J-Frame.
  22. I really like the new look! Great job!!!
  23. Oh! Forget looking at all those other pistols! They are all wannabes. Go ahead. Look at the 1911. You know you want to! Cause you can soup it up! You know you want to go on the customizing kick! Go ahead and give in to the urge. It's easy really! The parts are abundant. People that work on them are plenty. A lot of the stuff you can do yourself! Just look at the satisfaction you can get out of customizing one. Go ahead!
